Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans

How about you talk White Sox baseball, or just keep your yap shut. -

Again, stay on topic, if you can. The topic was the Sox fans’ experience in the ‘90s, which was impacted adversely by both the original construct of the ballpark when it was first built, and what happened in ‘94 with the strike and Reinsdorf’s involvement therein. Both are very legitimate points to make when talking about the White Sox during the ‘90s. If you can’t handle that discussion, then mind your own business, stay out of it, let those who want to discuss it discuss it, and keep your snarky and unwelcome comments to yourself. -

Not complaining about anything, smartass. Just picking up on a point a more knowledgeable poster than yourself made about the experience of the fan base back in the '90s and providing some additional historical perspective to it. Ironically, it's too bad you were in too much of a hurry to complain yourself to actually pick up on that. As for the flute lessons and bird watching comment (neither of which has to do with White Sox baseball so not quite sure why you took the time to mention it), seems like you should cling onto your day job as tightly as you can and not put all of your eggs into the basket of being Mr. Funny Guy. No future there for you. -
Steve Stone with a dose of reality for Sox fans

It was the worst when it should have been the best. And the reason it was the worst was because of the atrocity Reinsdorf built known as the "New Comiskey Park". That original version of the new ballpark was an abject disaster, and was only amplified a year later and for years to come when ballparks like Camden Yards and the like were built. Seeing what we got and what the fan bases of all of the other teams got with their beautiful retro builts left a horrible taste in the mouth of our fan base, and rightfully so. So at a time when a talented, young team that had been developed during the late '80s should have been celebrated and supported by the fan base, there was this incredible black cloud that hovered over the organization with all of the constantly negative buzz perpetrated by the local newspapers and on sports radio about the deficient ballpark and its resulting declining attendance figures. And that's even before discussion about Reinsdorf shutting down the '94 season with his hard-line positions on the MLB labor front back then - the ultimate punch in the gut to the fans by this owner. What a disaster that was. -

I don’t think the fans are upset about the flashes of improvement they’ve seen. Look at how things perk up around here when those flashes turn into nice wins for the team. Just not enough of that yet and still too much losing. Bottom line, fans are less interested in rebuilds and future potential and far more craving the euphoria that goes with following a winning ball club, which sadly our fan base hasn’t experienced in too long a time. -

The rebuild doesn't mask the fact the fans have been watching nothing but losing baseball for 6.5 years in a row now, and have only seen one playoff win and four playoff games in total in the 13.5 years since the World Series. The "b****ing" is a culmination of all of this long term losing and non-competitiveness, not just impatience with a rebuild that in and of itself guarantees nothing in the future, what with the current owner and FO still in place. -
You are completely out of control with these non-stop personal attacks of yours.

Oh really? Which part? The part where he referred to the FO as incompetent, or the one where he pointed out that the financial bottom line would not be impacted? Nothing silly about either observation, it would appear. So what did you mean?

Jerry Reinsdorf’s powers of self-assessment are severely lacking if he thinks letting go of Tony LaRussa is the “biggest mistake” of his time as owner of the Sox. That is way down on the list of franchise-crippling mistakes he’s made over the last four decades. -

NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, not one person, from the White Sox organization should ever say anything even remotely negative about the impatience the Sox fan base is having with this rebuild. Not after only one playoff appearance and just one measly playoff win in the 14 years since the World Series in '05. They should be grateful they even still have a fan base. -

This is why some people are quite disingenuous when they criticize those fans who express impatience with the rebuild and all of the losing that goes with it because the rebuild itself is only in its third year. They forget the rebuild, which started in 2016, was on the heels of a lot of losing baseball between the end of the World Series in 2005 and the beginning of the rebuild in 2016. Layer on all of that losing the fact the same people in both the FO and dugout who are responsible for all or most of that losing are still hanging around only adds to the frustration of the fan base. New ownership, and a total house cleaning, is what this franchise desparately needs, and has for quite some time. -

Next year will be Reinsdorf’s 40th as owner of the Sox, and sadly, after four decades now, the bolded is the legacy he will leave. -

Cooper, McEwing, Boston, and Steverson were coaches on the Sox’ staff in the earlier part of this decade when the owner and his FO were in “go for it” mode. Those teams, under these very coaches, played so poorly and lost so many games that it forced the organization into a multi-year rebuild. But despite their massive on-field failures on teams that were supposedly designed to win, each of these guys was allowed to retain their jobs during the rebuild, presiding over all of the losing during this time like they did all of those years prior to the rebuild. Bottom line - Jerry Reinsdorf’s loyalty program remains in as strong, working order as ever, and its very unlikely any of these guys are going anywhere anytime soon, unless they decide to leave on their own (e.g., retiring). That’s just how things roll over at 35th & Shields. -
Oh, quiet, you!

God, you are a complete disaster of a poster. How about less of your constant, inane attacks on other posters and maybe, just maybe, you try and add a salient point or two to the conversations about White Sox baseball around here. Enough of your nonsense already.

Wrong - AGAIN! “Tanking”, as it’s too commonly referred to these days, on boards such as this one, refers to complete anti-ethical behavior on behalf of the Major League team. Every MLB team is responsible for fielding a team each and every day capable of winning that day’s game to the best of that organization’s ability. Anything less is a compromise of that team’s ethical approach to the game. And that is agnostic to any market. -
It absolutely was not. Leury’s position was in sacrifice mode the entire way.
-
This is where just giving up that first out with Leury’s bunt just makes no logical sense whatsoever.
-
Bunting Garcia in the third inning while already having the lead. Brilliant.

Happy Birthday to Lucas Giolito AND Steve Stone!

THIS! We need to start moving out of rebuilding mode and into trying to compete mode, starting next season. After this season, we only” have four more years of control over two of the arguably more important pieces of the rebuild in Moncada and Giolito. Burning another year in 2020 in a year that looks and feels like this season shortens the “window” of competitiveness we’ve been talking so much about since 2016 to a mere three years with Yoan and Lucas still in the mix. Obviously certain injuries have slowed down the progress and timetable around that competitive window, and we’re still awaiting the arrival of the next wave of elite prospects who are currently killing it down in the minors. But similar to how the Cubs surprised in 2015 and were not only competitive that season, but made a nice playoff run, it would be great for the fan base if the Sox could compete in 2020, taking advantage of one of the four years of control remaining over Moncada and Giolito. So all of this talk about trading Abreu, Colome, et al for prospects, prospects, and more prospects, would have made more sense a year ago, two years ago. But we have to get going on the competing front. It’s time to start winning. The 4th longest playoff drought in baseball called and said “Please end this drought in 2020! It’s time!”

Em, what “White Sox trade talks with the Dodgers”?
