  1. The more angry posts of yours that I read (and there are lots of them) I'm really surprised you didn't change your name from the previous incarnation of AustinIllini to something more surly like Albert Belle, vs. that of the always smiling, always seemingly happy Eloy Jimenez. Albert Belle would seem more suitable.
  2. Just enjoy the damn win and stop obsessing on this other stuff.
  3. Cubs score a run on the very first pitch of the game, and a big fat NADA for the rest of the game. So awesome!
  4. This is what I call one satisfying, helluva win!
  5. Btw, Benetti & Stone have been just terrific tonight. Have captured the spirit of the crosstown classic just right.
  6. My god, Eloy’s smile is so refreshing and contagious!
  7. Beautiful double play by the infield to bail out the brain fart in the outfield!
  8. Lefties out of the bullpen very effective tonight.
  9. Wow - that was one of the strangest at-bats I’ve ever seen.
  10. It’s why we will probably just love how refreshing it will be to watch Andrew Vaughn play in a White Sox uniform.
  11. Will you just STFU already? Every single f’ing time you come on this site, all you do is your angry bird routine and pick fights with posters. Either comment on the game or keep quiet.
  12. At the time, it was speculated that the Sox hired Hawk to be GM as a response to the bigger-than-life personality known as Dallas Green operating as the GM of the Cubs. From the moment Green hit the stage as GM in 1982, he commanded a lot of attention with his somewhat charismatic style, and in many ways represented the face of the franchise when the new ownership took over in '82. Meanwhile, the Sox had the mild-mannered yet baseball-savvy and very capable Roland Hemond as GM. The speculation was the Sox put Harrelson, and with him his Hawk persona, in the GM seat to sort of compete for the newspaper headlines with Green. And if you look at how the Sox tried to market Hawk that year, with the cartoon images of him on all of the marketing materials, wearing the big cowboy that he used to wear all of the time back then, and with the tagline "The Hawk Wants You!", it seems like that's exactly why they opted to appoint him GM. Perfect plan, except for the requirement that he actually have to generally manage the organization part!
  13. It was a low point because as the Sox were essentially being hidden away on SportsVision, the Cubs were beginning to take off on superstation WGN and all of the exposure that went along being on that station at the time. It was night and day in terms of exposure to the casual fan, and the Cubs ended up gathering up an entire generation of casual fans as a result.
  14. The only thing Jerry Reinsdorf hates spending market value money on more than on position players is pitching.
  15. This. We pussyfooted around for a few months, while San Diego was the club that was truly aggressive, swooping in at the last minute and just getting it done.
  16. An astonishing nearly $66M of the existing $92M payroll comes off the books after this season, which includes potentially Abreu, but most certainly includes Nova, Herrera, Alonso, Jay, Colome, Banuelos, and Nate Jones. So they will have the money to spend, and we have Hahn’s claim that the “money will be spent”, sooooooooo...I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens! What could go wrong!
  17. Not the Yankees announcers. Plus, your own eyesight should have helped you out on this one.
