  1. There's zero chance we get Crawford. He's going to go for $17m+ over 5 years. The Angels and Yankees will outbid us by a landslide. And Beane LOVES Barton, no way he is available for Quentin. And you don't stick one of the best defensive LF in the game in RF so Juan Pierre can play there. It's more likely Rios goes back to RF and Crawford to CF, but that isn;t ideal either. It's not a fit for what it would cost.
  2. Wow, that was lucky. Let's hope Johnny doesn't put us in THAT position anymore.
  3. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) But how will Paulie be able steal if Rios is only on second and not third? TOUCHE!
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) Ozzie Ball is shaping up to be one of the most disastrous offensive experiments in recent memory. At least the basecloggers are gone . It's like half of our roster is being used to kill the other half of the rosters rallies. Thank you, sir, for providing me with my first signature.
  5. Thank you for making this thread. Fire Ozzie, he is losing games for us.
  6. This is a good backup pickup but only if he give up ZERO of our top 5 prospects.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) One of the interesting things mentioned by Phil Rogers in the Trib was that he could see Bobby Jenks getting moved for the prospects to acquire a Dunn or Fielder. Thats a great point. The relief market is very publicly and frustratingly thin this year with so many teams contending -- teams are knocking down the door for Scott Downs and Craig Breslow. Oh man, that would be a KW GEM. Putz moves in as closer, Fielder/Dunn becomes the new Kotsay, Jones rests Quentin when he gets hurt every 9 days. Brilliant.
  8. What a steal. If this was a fantasy league that trade would have been VETO'D That PTBNL is probably going to be huge. Otherwise no one would ever do that.
  9. I'm thinking Flowers goes. I think he's the dark horse guy. Almost everybody needs a near-ML ready hitting catcher. Flowers/Viciedo/Santeliz+?
  10. No way man. Below average all around. The plate discipline of Vlad Guerrero without the ability to make contact.
  11. Dunn would be great, but he isn't worth all of our few good prospects. I'm a huge Haren fan, but we need a LH power hitter WAY more than we need an upgrade over Hudson, and Haren will cost all of our prospects, too. I think LaRoche is a very significant upgrade over Kotsay, and can be had for a couple BS prospects, so I say go for LaRoche.
  12. I just think we need a big hitter WAY more than we need to replace Hudson
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Jorge Cantu at his absolute best has been a slightly above average hitter, and he's been bad this year. He shouldn't even be a fallback option for the White Sox. I'd sure love to have half of his 2008 season.
  14. I hope you guys are right about Freddy -- I was just trying to illustrate that we could look at free agency in the case of a pitching emergency. Also, now Jorge Cantu is available. What do you think about him?
  15. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/marl...rd-dodgers.html This is now my vote for relatively affordable pickup.
  16. QUOTE (balfanman @ Jul 10, 2010 -> 07:30 AM) Why is Freddys' arm due to fall off? I've heard several people say that they can't trust Freddy to stay healthy, Why not? He's well over 2 years (almost 3 I think)removed from his surgery and other than that I don't believe that he's ever missed significant time. I don't understand why they think Freddy is going to get hurt. That said, any pitcher, no matter how healthy, is one pitch away from being done. I would think that the way they're trying to handle Buehrle with kid gloves and Gavins hip, that those two are much more likely to go down than Freddy. Before this year, he hasn't made more than 11 starts in a season since 2006.
  17. Peavy was killing batters, guys. It hurts to lose him, badly. But is Hudson really THAT bad as a 5 starter? Even without Peavy, we've got four pitchers pitching like #2 guys, which is not something many teams can boast. Our pitching is STILL the best in the Central, including the bullpen. Now, imagine how effective it would be if we added a legitimate bat to the DH slot, putting our offense on par with everything other AL team! Kotsay's line is .225/.322/.385 -- and he's NOT playing below his potential! This is ridiculous! Now, let's consider the options and their costs as well. Haren is a stud, but we absolutely do not have enough to get him, period. Even if we did, do you really want to give up the ENTIRE depleted farm just to put Haren over Hudson? Oswalt is expensive, declining, injury-prone, and from the NL, and he hates us and has a NTC anyway. Ted Lilly is not good enough to pitch much, if any, better than Hudson in the AL and in a homerun park. Now, what would Adam LaRoche cost? Clevelan Santeliz? Jeff Marquez? Prorated salary of a million bucks? LaRoche's numbers are down this year, but he's one year removed from an .844 OPS and would absolutely benefit from the Cell and a contending atmosphere. He would be SO much better than Kotsay and cost almost nothing. NOW, suppose we sign Pedro Martinez! I know, I'm getting ahead of myself, but he could be Freddy Garcia: Round 2. Freddy's arm is due to fall off sometime over the next 5-7 starts, which is just about time for Pedro to get ready for 8 weeks of slow, crafty veteran pitching. All of a sudden, we've significantly improved our offense, and adequately patched our SP hole, and given up nothing! Even if we go bigger than LaRoche (Adam Dunn?) and do trade our precious few decent prospects, I would argue that we would benefit massively more from a good LH bat, whose runs will relieve pressure from our entire staff, making it easier for us to win every night instead of just every five days.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) Yeah because the Marlins want some terrible, mid 30's reliever? Give me a break. They're looking for good, young, cheap talent and that's exactly what Jor. Danks, Retherford, Morel and Marquez are. Danks is a toolsy outfielder who at the very bare minimum is a good national league 4th outfielder thanks to his speed and defense and thanks to his athleticism and pedigree he has some very nice upside. Retherford is a very versatile, grindy ballplayer who reminds me of Craig Counsell and I'm sure the Marlins would love to have that guy back only 15 years younger, well that's what CJ is. Morel is an excellent defensive 3B with a great eye, very good contact numbers and should develop some power, if he reaches his full potential he's a borderline all-star 3B, something the Marlins could use. Jeff Marquez is a left handed starter who could easily work out of the pen as a long man or a good lefty MR. Talented left handed pitching is hard to find and that's what we have here. There's no good reason why they wouldn't do this deal, they can't afford Johnson long term. That's a certainty and they should strike while the iron is hot: he's on a roll right now but that won't last forever, they should get the best package of young talent they can before he reverts back to his normal self. Trust me, they'd bite. Lol. I'm assuming this is supposed to be in green. I don't post enough around here to be able to catch all the sarcasm.
