  1. HAVE YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW BEEN AFFECTED BY THE MACHADO SAGA? IF SO, YOU COULD BE ELIGIBLE FOR LEGAL COMPENSATION. THE FIRST CALL IS ALWAYS FREE AND REMEMBER: I DONT GET PAID UNLESS YOU GET PAID
  2. People citing Vegas odds as projections always cracks me up.
  3. Which, really just depends on how they are defining “slightly more.” If they really are sitting on 7/175, and Machado is disappointed by that, it doesn’t take a huge leap of faith for him to say “if I take 3/120 right now, I am confident that I’ll out earn the back end of the Sox offer in my next deal.” if they’re sitting on 8/240, that’s a much tougher pill to swallow. It depends how hard the Sox are playing this. The closer you fly to the ground, the less margin for error you have. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s any way for anyone, media or otherwise, to know how this is being played.
  4. If the Sox are foolish enough to let Machado’s camp believe that they actually will not budge on a sub-200mm dollar contract, then yes, time is not on their side anymore. But if they have implied that they will not be outbid, then they should get an opportunity to counter their own offer when Lozano comes to them saying he’s about to short a short term deal for higher AAV. Then, the Sox should move the number up to where it needs to be, knowing confidently that no team is left to outbid them.
  5. I dont think there’s any new information. FWIW, I dont think there’s much of any actual info at all — most of our reported “offer” figures are just speculation from writers that gets repeated enough that people believe it’s actually a leak.
  6. I think he becomes a season ticket sales rep in that scenario.
  7. It’s all based on comps and aging curves. It’s not someone’s opinion or anything.
  8. Alfaro is not good. Tools goof who refuses to make adjustments, and is mediocre as a result. Great at a few things, unacceptably bad at as many others. Sixto though. Legit.
  9. I’d be shocked if the the Philles gave up BOTH Sixto and Medina. Moniak and haseley are both a lot less valuable than when they were drafted, so I can see that for sure.
  10. Nightengale also said Adam Jones is still and “elite player,” so
  11. If the Sox get Machado at 7/175 but with a two year fucking opt out that they could avoid by offering, idk like 8/240 or some weak ass shit, I’m gonna be pissed.
  12. 1. Do not agree with/am offended by the content of the emails this guy sent. But 2. Being a dick is not a crime. So 3. Theres really nothing to do here.
  13. There will undoubtedly not be a better opportunity to sign a marquee FA in the foreseeable future for the White Sox. I’m glad no one seems to be forcing them to increase their bid, but if they need to step in and say “okay, now that you see there is no higher bid out there, let’s talk about a slightly higher number that will make you happy” in order to stop him from doing the pillow contract thing, then they need to get it f’n done. The only reason they’re even on this thing is that the stars have aligned in their favor. They cannot come away empty-handed.
  14. Manny Machado, arch-villain: Chase Utley, beloved grinder, soon to be recipient of underdog online Hall of Fame support:
  15. Again, outs are never a good thing. Sometimes, coaches are willing to accept them as a cost to create a run scoring situation. But in literally every one of those situations, a hit is even better, and in most of those situations, a walk is better. It’s a subtle but important distinction from what you’re saying.
  16. An out is NEVER a good thing, there are simply some situations in which you’re willing to accept an out as the cost for an increased chance of a run.
  17. Sorry if it seemed like a fight. I was literally waiting in the DMV on my phone, lol. I agree with this premise generally.
  18. Yes, and that change has come with a clear MO. Theyve been remarkably consistent since that change. And tying up all of their resources for the foreseeable future in two players, thus preventing them from filling out the rest of the roster when they need to and setting them up to need another rebuild when these two players contracts are under water and are making 40-50% of the whole payroll doesn’t line up with that MO. Its possible. We can’t know. But there aren’t any observable reasons to think they’ll do it.
  19. What reasons? My point is that what he said lines up with logic and lines up with their past behavior, both recent and distant.
  20. It’s possible, but I can’t think of an objective reason for them to actually sign both players. There’s no evidence to suggest the White Sox suddenly want to have payrolls in the top five in the league every year, which would be pretty much required if they’re going to roster two $30-35mm per year players for the next decade and still actually try to put a decent team on the field around them. So yeah, you COULD be right, but it would go against everything the team has ever done, and against everything the team has said, and runs counter to the long-term goal of sustained contention that has been implied both by the team’s actions and the team’s official remarks.
  21. But if another team is only involved at a lower price than the player wants to accept, nothing has really changed. If the White Sox were TRULY never gonna go higher than 7/175, they were never gonna win in the first place. I remain convinced they’re just waiting for someone to force them to bid higher, which was always gonna happen. You don’t win the free agent unless you bid higher than every other team. We’re just waiting to see what that number looks like.
  22. Hahn said they weren’t going to get both, and there’s no reason not to believe him. It’s pretty much zero.
  23. Lol exactly. What a dumb tweet
  24. Unfortunately, I just don’t think giolito has the stuff to be anything more than a 4/5 starter at this point. He did when he was drafted, but it just keeps going backwards. Even his “good starts” last year didn’t feature nearly enough missed bats to suggest that he could have that success consistently. If he’s going to stick, he needs to either find a way to get 3-4 mph back on his fastball, learn a new off speed pitch or cutter, or develop top-of-the-scale command and control. While all those things are possible, none are likely.
