2015 White Sox draft pick discussion
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 06:33 PM) Nobody said anything about writing him off. Sure, he's got potential, athletic/raw ability. With the premium on being able to put up 25-35 homer seasons offensively, and being left-handed...I just like Barnum more. Trey's a switch hitter. So you were correcting me for generalizing A and A+ leagues, but then go on to call Rookie ball A ball as well? Thanks for the laugh Caufield. And by the way, I still remember your gripes on Quintana and his six years in "A" ball, one of which was a suspended season. Regardless, most minor league gurus will tell you that the jump from A+ to Double A is the most difficult jump for minor leaguers, and Barnum has yet to make that jump. As for Barnum or Trey, we know that both have power potential. With his athletic frame, scouts said that Trey has power to hit 25+ HR's, and that's as a third basemen switch hitter. For me, with power being Barnum's only stand out tool, to say his career minor league slugging % is unimpressive for a first basemen is understating it. It's hard to make a case for Barnum passing Trey based on what they've done so far. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) At this point, I wouldn't be completely shocked if Barnum put it together and passed Trey. For some reason, he seems like he's going to end up close to Brent Morel statistically. Just a hunch. Hope I'm wrong. Geez, we're only 3 weeks into the season and you're already writing off Trey? He more than held his own in Kanny last year for a 19 year old. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) Gee, how many times have we said that over the last 10-15 years about a position prospect? And of course the irony is Barnum is spending his 3rd year in A ball and is trending downward after his hot start in the first week. -
Their defense is good, but we made them look better than they are. Jimmy missed at least 5 layups tonight, a few more by Mirotic and Noah. Rose is 0-7 from 3's tonight after shooting 46% (yes 4.6.) from 3's the first 4 games. I think it's more the case that we weren't ready for the fight tonight than them figuring us out finally. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 10:14 PM) The longer this series stretches, the better love feels. Spurs Clippers might go to game 7 anyways, the difference is probably a day or two, at max.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) None of that is positive when you're trying to be a title contender(not that I think we are). I think we are all disappointed we couldn't close out this inferior team in 5, but looking at rest of the picture in the East we're not entirely doomed. Cleveland is going to be shorthanded and their defense isn't nearly as good and aren't as well-coached as the Bucks. Atlanta never struck anyone as a postseason threat and so far it's proven right. Wizards had their ups and downs and are in no way unbeatable. If we pass this test, we still have a fighting chance. (Again, just me trying to look past the disgusting showing tonight)

A positive take away is we barely lost the past 2 games despite some bad breaks and Rose playing like s***. If we get the good Derrick in either of the next 2 games and get those makeable shots to fall, we should have no problem moving on to the next round.
-
Lol championship contenders my ass.
-
How are you a point guard on this offense with this many weapons and has only 2 assists? And only 8 in the last 74 minutes vs. 14 turnovers?
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 27, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) Rose is terrible on defense. He terrible at a lot of things today, defense isn't one of them.
-
We win with good Derrick Rose and we die with bad Derrick Rose. Hm... where have we seen this before
-
Rose needs to not jump everytime he dribbles into the lane, his jump passes are causing way too many TO's.
-
You two realized he's talking about Engel, Adam, right? I am excited about his prospect status, and will point out again that Stoltz compared his athleticism to Mike Trout. Hopefully he sees Double A soon.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 25, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) awful game by Drose 8 turnovers Give Bucks credit, their ball pressure is the best I've seen this year.
-
Mayo's D on Jimmy is also incredible in this game.
-
Noah's roller coaster season continues. He's just so bad out there right now, but playing next to Taj doesn't make him look that bad at least.
-
Ugly start, their scrappiness and length are making us work hard for baskets. But the team outside of Rose is 15-31 from the field, so if Rose picks up his scoring in the second half, we should be fine.
-
RIP Taj's ankles.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 17, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Bucks actually scare me. Then imagine playing the Mavs, Spurs, Griz or the Wizards in the first round.
-
He's a clown. And he isn't even the one with the hot daughter. Bulls in 5.
-
Can't wait for Sale or Rodon K him 3-4 times when we play them in July and August.
-
Hence he needs more time in the minors. Sounds like command and control issues today.
-
The Sox made it clear that they won't rush Rodon for the need of the big league roster. IMO Rodon can use more time to work on his command in the minors, and it's gonna take more than 3-4 starts. So I am guessing mid June at the earliest, which should increase his availability at the end of the season.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) Dykstra through his first two starts: 13 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, and 27 ground-outs versus 2 fly-outs. That's quite impressive. I was surprised he wasn't in BHAM to start the season. He was overmatched in High A last year. I was never high on him and actually didn't have faith in him this year either, but it's good to see him prove me wrong.

The thing with playing Cleveland in 2nd round is beating them will take everything the Bulls got and more. If they do beat the Cavs, you just don't know if they got enough health and focus in them to win the ECF and play well in the Finals.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) 16 consecutive years (would be 17 if not for the short '99 season) of 50 or more wins. 9 conference finals 6 nba finals 5 nba titles All this has taken place in the internet-advanced scouting-analytics-etc-era. The 90's Bulls dynasty was amazing and historic. But i'm sorry. The competition when all that expansion was happening is not even close to what the Spurs have had to deal with EVERY year of the Duncan/Pop era. They've gone up against the best of shaq/kobe/phil lakers, the seven seconds or less suns, Dirk's mavs, Kobe/Gasol lakers, Durant/Westbrook thunder (Harden was there one year). And that's just the west. They've taken down two defending champions during their run ('05 Pistons, last year's Heat). If they beat GS/Cleveland and win another title then that seals it for me: Duncan/Pop > anyone As I said, you can't deny the longevity of Spurs' success under Duncan/Pop, they are definitely a dynasty. But are they the greatest dynasty? I don't think so. In terms of dominance, 90's Bulls are still better, IMO. In the 6 playoffs under Jordan, Bulls were a combined 90-25 in the playoffs, that's a crazy 78% winning %, IN THE PLAYOFFS. They also NEVER lost a game in the first round, and faced Game 7 only twice in 24 series in that span. I know you will always debate that 2000's talent is better than 90's talent. I won't debate you on that, given that I do think the West in 2000's are superior to East in the 90's. But that difference in talent level isn't enough to overcome the Bulls' playoff record, RS record, and margin of victory at the end of the day. And given how good those Bulls teams were, who's to say that Bulls wouldn't have won 6 titles if say they had to play Kobe or Durant in the Finals? I just don't think you can say a team that has won 5 Finals in 16 years is better than a team that won 6 Finals in 8 (6) years.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) They're outscoring their opponents by 16.45 ppg during their winning streak I haven't seen a team flip a switch like this since the '01 Lakers. If the Spurs get through this conference and win another title the following statements will be true: Duncan best big man ever Pop best coach ever Spurs greatest dynasty ever Bit of a hyperbole here. It's hard to call them the greatest dynasty when their dominance is scattered over the span of 10+ years, in which we've seen better teams than them in several of those years. And over the past 4 years, the Heat has made 4 Finals, won 2, the Spurs has made 2 Finals and won 1. The 90's Bulls under Jordan are still a better dynasty. While short-lived, they were more unstoppable.
