Mark Kotsay
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Still close to Chi-town...Kotsa will be traded to us at the break for Dunn. If Ozzie wants him bad enough Kenny will throw in Sale and Viciedo too

sox fans in surrounding states
I have spent significant time in S.F. Bay area the last few winters. I see many White Sox hats and logos. I think the look attracts people in general including gang members, and rap fans, but most wearing the Sox stuff are not necessarilly White Sox or even MLB fans. Also Raider fans seem to gravitate toward the White Sox. Maybe the Sox should try to cultivate the bad boy image.

Mark Kotsay
Thought he would sign with the Twins or Tigers and come back and kill us 18 times a year.

Freddy signs with NYY
Watching him last year the eye test told me he was washed up by the end. His velocity got pathetic and a good hitter would wait for him to lay it in there. He is not a bullpen type so let the Yankees build an over the hill junk pile.

Ah, remember when....
Yeah both Beurhle and Thomas could be HOf. Thomas a lock. Wood will be forgotten and Sosa is a joke. Who would'a thunk it?

2011 Twins talent vs. White Sox talent
Seems as though the Sox always look better on paper and then the Twins win it anyway. The Tigers should be in this discussion as well.

Viciedo to the OF
I see Viciedo as 4th outfielder/dh for some other team.

Beckham batting 2nd...
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) we don't have a single hitter that stands out as a certainty to be successful in the 2-hole, why not put Gordon there. He couldn't possibly have a worse april and may than Alexei Yup, no one is the perfect no. 2 hitter so I guess Beckham is about the best candidate.

Ozzie yes. Oney no. If they come as a package no.

Teahen your starter?
If you are going to play a defensive liability at third base then it should probably be Viciedo. Teahan is a good left handed bat off the bench, and versatile enough to sub at several positions. Unless Morel turns out to be simply overmatched at the big league level he gets the nod. If not I would play Visquel there again. You need defense if you want good pitching.

Is 2011 make or break for Ozzie?
I agree with the previous analysis of the roster All the Sox really did to improve was sign Dunn. Crain in but Jenks out. A hole at 3rd base. This was a pretty good team last year and they have a good chance this coming year, but certainly no lock and Minnesota is a clear favorite until we prove otherwise. Seems as though we have talked the talk on this site before. Anyway the Ozzie/Kenny combo is growing old. Making Ozzie the fall guy, if we don't win it all, may not be fair, but that is the life of mlb managers. The latest incident (Jenks) with Oney cements in my mind the Guillen's are incorrigible and not to be trusted. He'll get one more shot. He will keep his mouth shut untill they are hopelessly behind then look out!

Would it be nuts to put Peavy in the pen? At least when he first comes back. let him get some innings in without having to throw 100 pitches.

Minor League talent rankings
None of the teams on that list were playoff teams last year.

A guy that pitches every fifth game is more important than a guy that closes out your wins? Maybe, I gues it depends on where he can find more success. Would you rather have C.C. Sabathia or Mariano Rivera? I guess time will tell who Chris Sale is. I think with his motion he will end up in the pen.

I'm hoping Sale becomes closer now and forever. If he can be good or great in that role it solves a problem for a long time to come. Imagine the numbers he could put up if started successfully closing this year and had a long career. If he can be a solid closer why try to do more with him. Isn't closer important enough?

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
Jenks may do well the Red Sox. He would not have done well with the White Sox.

So what is the concensus? Sale, bullpen or starter? Not here for a while there now and then. Is he in the bullpen or not?
