there are 2 sets of unemployment numbers that are produced. Jobless Claims (see my above posting) and the unemployment rate % index. This index is supposed to reflect an actual number (including immigrants and college grads) of people looking for work that can't find it. With 290 million American's and this rate at 5.5%, the actual number of unemployed American's is 15.95 million people. If only 3 million people were unemployed, this rate would be 1%.
-
very good question.. and here's the answer. because these people, either immigrants or college grads, weren't working before... they can't claim unemployment from the government. Thus they aren't being counted in the unemployment rate because they can't actually prove that they are unemployed.
-
plus, just an FYI.. to keep up with population growth and immigration the economy needs to add at least 150,000 jobs a month to break even. So if the job losses and creation are back to 0 since Bush entered office, that means that he only has 7.2 million jobs to go to ACTUALLY break even.

yeah because the Dow is exactly where it was back in 1999 when I was sitting in my dorm room. 5 years, no sustained growth.. always a good thing.
-
just an fyi... the Northeast Seabord represents 23.8% of the US Population so I would venture to say they are a pretty good determining factor of things. on the flip side, the 3 states on the west coast represents 15.5% of the US population so when people bash the coasts, they are basically bashing 40% of the US Population.

then why did I have a Census worker come out to check me out back in February? Was it maybe something for the state like funding for the city or schools?
-
does anyone know when the 2004 Census Results will come out? I'm curious how this might change the electoral map again for next time.

Elizabeth Edwards Has Breast Cancer 1 minute ago U.S. National - AP By RON FOURNIER and RANDOLPH SCHMID, Associated Press Writers WASHINGTON - Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites), was diagnosed with breast cancer the day her husband and Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) conceded the presidential race. Spokesman David Ginsberg said Mrs. Edwards, 55, discovered a lump in her right breast while on a campaign trip last week. Her family doctor told her Friday that it appeared to be cancerous and advised her to see a specialist when she could. She put off the appointment until Wednesday so as to not miss campaign time. Mrs. Edwards had a needle biopsy performed at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where Dr. Barbara Smith confirmed the cancer, Ginsberg said. He said the cancer was diagnosed as invasive ductal cancer. That is the most common type of breast cancer, and can spread from the milk ducts to other parts of the breast or beyond. More tests were being done to determine how far the cancer has advanced and how to treat it, he said. Ginsberg said spirits are high at the Edwards household. "Everybody feels good about it, that this is beatable," he said. Edwards, who leaves his North Carolina Senate seat in January, said in a statement, "Elizabeth is as strong a person as I've ever known. Together, our family will beat this."

dare I say... all of the Top 7 voted for Kerry and 9 of the Top 11 did altogether.

very simply, very truly... morals and values are different things to different people. It's insane for anyone, on either side, to say what's moral and what's not. When politician's or any one else start talking about family values I want to :puke "To each their own"

I got it from last night's exit polling on MSNBC. The #1 reason why people voted for Bush was due to "Moral Issues" at 37%. None of the above issued reasons cracked the top 3 and didn't add up to 37%. Am I unhappy with the result? Sure. But I take comfort in the fact that more people voted for Bush than Kerry. That's how a democracy should work.

I think next time, they should vote on whether Gay people should have to sit on the back of the bus or drink from a different water fountain. To me it's a sad thing that people are more concerned about two gay guys getting married rather than war, terrorism, unemployment, medical costs or tuition costs combined.

all I have to say is that I hope Bush doesn't let us down again. And also, how dissapointed I am that the youth didn't come out to vote as promised.

on hearing the news, Jon Garland's lifetime ERA automatically went up by 1 run per game. -
wasn't he always? Anytime all national polls show things within the margin of error I'd think anybody has a fair shot.
-
my first question in reading this was how can you be in striking distance with a small lead?

see the Drudge Report or Yahoo Finance.
