  8. my point was, that we live with "threats" everyday. So those who feel that now we'll be threatened because of a jail in rural Illinois, aren't seeing the whole picture.
  9. lets see... 1) we've got 2 nuclear power plants here within 100 miles of Chicago and no one is concerned about terrorist threats there? 2) if somehow one of these guys did escape a supermax facility (something that's never happened) what the fu*k are they going to do anyway? They are in the corn fields of Illinois, in an area that they've never seen/been to before, and can't speak the language?

  12. U.S. banks continued to tighten standards and terms over the past three months on all major types of loans to individuals or households during the third quarter, according to a senior loan officer opinion survey on bank lending practices released by the Federal Reserve. The percentage of banks that tightened standards and terms for most loan categories, however, continued to decline from the peaks reached late last year. Some 15% of survey respondents reported tightening standards for credit card loans to individuals or households, down from the 35% that reported doing so in the previous quarter’s survey and the smallest net percentage reported since April 2008. Between 30% and 40% of banks continued to report tightening various terms and conditions on credit card loans, including credit limits, interest rate spreads, minimum required credit scores and their willingness to grant loans to customers who do not meet credit-scoring thresholds. Approximately 15% of banks, on net, reported having tightened standards on consumer loans other than credit card loans during the third quarter, down from the 35% that reported having done so in the previous quarter and the smallest net percentage of tightening recorded since January 2008. With the exception of interest rate spreads, which nearly 35% of banks reported having widened, reports of tighter terms on other consumer loans were also less prevalent. For consumer loans of all types, 25% of banks reported weaker demand, roughly the same as in the previous quarter. Approximately 25 % of banks, on net, reported that they had tightened standards on prime residential real estate loans over the past three months, which is slightly higher than during the second quarter, but is still significantly below the peak of 75% that was reported in July of last year. For the third consecutive quarter, banks reported that demand for prime residential real estate loans strengthened. Some 30% of banks reported tightening standards on nontraditional mortgage loans, which represents a decline of about 15 percentage points from the previous quarter.
  13. i would think you leave it on during the entire show, that's been deemed to be opinion.
  14. so back to the thought... why not require the "opinion" logo?
  15. So I was thinking about the constant chatter, complaining, bit*hing, moaning, etc about the Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Keith Olberman, Chris Matthews's of the world. These guys tend to get "special attention" because they reside on channels who either call themselves News networks (Fox News) or are clearly categorized as news networks. (CNN, MSNBC, etc) So many people turn on a news channel, expecting news, get one of these guys, and take it as gospel and think that everything they say is truth. These networks and individuals will argue that the public is smart enough to know that these shows are not news, just like they are smart enough to know that the Editorial/Opinion sections in Newspapers aren't news either. (1st, people aren't that smart. And 2nd, in the newspapers, there's a big headline that says Opinion/Our Views/Editorials, etc) So, why not have a little logo on the screen that says "Opinion" whenever these shows are on? Shoot they already litter the screen with other graphics, rolling newsbars, logos, etc. When they go back to normal news reporting, the logo can come down.
  16. At least by me (Kane Co) the home prices didn't drop too much. Just got re-assessed a month ago. Down 12% since 12/2006.
  17. if someone close to you died, and the murder was up for execution... would you support or be against the execution? I'll say that I would be against it... not that I'm pro-life or anything, but I'd just like the person to suffer each and every day of their live, living in a 4 ft by 4 ft cell, never seeing freedom again. I feel like executing them, is the cowards way out.
  18. somebody watched South Park tonight.
  19. Advanta Files Bankruptcy; Has $2.7 Billion Portfolio to Collect Monday, November 09, 2009 Small business credit card lender Advanta Corp. said it filed for bankruptcy protection. According to court filings with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, Advanta listed total assets of about $363 million and total debt of $331 million. "The economic debacle over the last two years devastated Advanta's small business customers and Advanta itself," said Dennis Alter, chairman and CEO, who is waiving his salary and any bonus during this process. Advanta Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Advanta, is not included in the Chapter 11 filing. It has been one of the nation's largest issuers of credit cards for small business. It is currently collecting its $2.7 billion portfolio of managed receivables from 360,000 customers but the cards are not open to new charges. The Chapter 11 proceeding will not have any impact on outstanding credit card balances and customer payment obligations will continue on normal schedules. In May of this year Advanta and Advanta Bank initiated a plan to limit their losses and add substantial value through the acquisition of Class A bonds issued by the Advanta Business Card Master Trust. However, the FDIC, after initially clearing the Plan, ultimately decided not to allow it to proceed. After that Advanta Bank proposed a second plan to enable the company to preserve value for its stakeholders and provide capital both for the Company and the Bank. However, an essential component of that plan recently also failed to secure FDIC approval leading to the Chapter 11 filing.
  20. there is a true danger in having too many political parties in our currently designed system. you get 3rd party candidates, many of which don't have primaries. So you get say 35 candidates on a ballot to run for Governor of a State. If 32 of these draw a significant amount of votes away from the Major 2 and you get 1 Fringe 3rd Party who is uber-radical, say the KKK Party, you could have a race where in the popular vote counts... KKK Party= 4% Democrat= 3.9% Republican= 3.9% The remaining 32 parties (2.75% each) Now, this would certainly be a stretch, but its mathematically conceivable. Certainly at a local or state level. From a Presidential standpoint, probably not due to the requirements of getting on a Ballot in all of the states. (just ask Ralph Nader about that) Also, imagine a debate with 35 participants. (all within 2% of each other in polling)
  21. ISELIN, New Jersey - JPMorgan Chase & Co. said Tuesday it will hire 1,200 mortgage loan officers by the end of next year, a 60 percent increase in its sales force.
  22. So could a history teacher show Apollo 13?
  23. it'll be the Republican's version of the Green Party.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) As I understood it, has to be germane to something specific that the teacher is teaching. You can't just show a movie. So then, if the subject is "Holidays around the World" and on the last day before Winter Break they show "The Santa Claus" that would fall in line. If on a random Thursday, they showed Toy Story, that wouldn't be.
