    eBay

well here's your final resolution... because the customer filled the complaint so early, and because I don't have a tracking number, Paypal automatically refunded the customers $ even though the item isn't supposed to arrive until the 22nd. (which would be 11 business days from the 6th) when i asked about why they would refund money before the delivery due date, i got the typical "we understand your frustration... BS" Then they said, let's hope that the package does arrive, and then he sends his money back in. (yeah right) insanity to refund $ before a delivery due date.

    eBay

saying that he didnt receive it. i just find it fishy, when someone files a dispute 6 actual days (not 6 business days, probably 4 business days) after shipping. Especially when the auction lists the delivery time as being 4-11 business days.

    eBay

so i sold a laptop on eBay on 10/5. Shipped it on 10/6 via USPS Parcel Post. Estimated delivery time 4-11 business days. On 10/12 the guy files a dispute saying lack of receipt of product. I point out the auction lists the shipping time and provide him with a copy of the receipt from the post office. (shame on me for not getting delivery confirmation or delivery receipt) In any case, the guy tells me that because of the delay, he lost a deal with his customer to re-sell... so my thoughts are that he no longer wants the item and since I can't prove that he actually received it, I think I'm screwed. (he's also filed a dispute with Paypal who has frozen my account) So either (a) the post office lost this big box or (B) the guy is a saavy eBayer who no longer wants the item and wants to weasel out. Any ideas?

  8. anyone else get a kick out of the Chicago Tribune commercials for their "awesome" sports sections showing their pre-seasons predictions of the Cubs winning 95 games (1st place) and the Sox winning 74 games. (Last place)
  9. wife and i live in Geneva. If we wanted to take the train(s) to the Sox game, we would need to pay... $6.10/each way per person on Metra so right there you are at $24.40 CTA 4 round-trips at $2.25/ea= $10 So for the train, we are at $34.40 Maybe you can get a weekend pass on Metra (do they still do this for $5), so then its $20, instead of $34.40. But for $3, to wait from train-to-train and be dependent on schedules (especially Metra) its not worth it.
  10. that's an interesting question. if you go to a sox game, there are fixed costs and variable costs that a consumer incurs. Fixed= Tickets, Parking Variable= Food, Souveniers I wonder if there has ever been an analysis showing what the maximum ROI would be. (higher fixed costs and barriers to entry or lower fixed costs and barriers to entry, with the hope of increased inside park spending) Where's the laffer curve for baseball!!!
  11. how much is parking at solider field or the united center?
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Out of curiousity where did you get the $18 profit figure? I thought I remembered seeing on the receipt/stub that of the $23, approx $5 of it was state/county/city taxes. The $18 wasn't profit but income. obviously they've got to pay the lot employees, insurance, etc.
  13. So with the previous attendance thread showing on average, 28,200 people per game... assuming that for every 5 people there is 1 parked car (kids, those who ride the subway, walk, park in outside lots, etc) that means there are approximately 5,640 cars per game. Parking costs $23, take out taxes, say $18 of that is to the Sox. $18 x 5,640= $101,520 x 81 games= $8,223,120 The Sox make over/approx $8 mil per season just off parking?
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) really? Some dude separated his shoulder their first try on that. I damn sure wouldn't want one of my team's players injured just for possession. sounds Toby Hall'ish.
  15. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Oh man was the XFL bad. i did like the scramble to the ball rather than a coin toss also, weren't the players encouraged to "date" the cheerleaders?
  16. but when it was around, the Arena Football League or XFL competed with the NFL, so the NFL was not exempt from the Act.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) And with baseball, there is at least some legal logic there. MLB as seen as similar to a holding company with partner-owned business units (teams). But with the insurance companies, I don't get it. so with baseball, this eliminates the ability of say you and I to create a "professional" baseball league?

  19. Heard an interesting comment today on TV, not sure if it's true or not. Thought people here would know... Who are the only 2 industries who are exempt from the Sherman Anti Trust Act?
  20. didnt the sox have to take 2 games with a 0 official attendance figure because of rainout/makeup dates?
  21. mario tricocci if she's here in the area?
  22. personally, if I was fortunate enough to catch say Tyler Flowers first HR ball, I'd ask to trade it for 2 Season Tickets to the next season, even if it was in the Upper Deck.
  23. Big League Stew Thu Sep 24, 2009 3:17 pm EDT Matt Carson will not pay $10,000 for his first big league homer By 'Duk You thought that Milwaukee's Happy Youngster drove an unreasonable bargain for Chris Coghlan's(notes) first home run ball earlier this season? Well, then be prepared to be even more disgusted after reading about the jerk who caught Matt Carson's(notes) first big league home run in Oakland on Monday and then said he'd only return it to the rookie in exchange for some cold, hard cash. The fan's rumored demand for the ball? Try $10,000, an outrageous amount that the career minor leaguer simply wouldn't — and most likely, couldn't — pay. From the SF Chronicle: "Kind of a bummer," Carson said. "They authenticated the bat I used, though, so I'll do something with that. "It would have been nice to have the ball, and I would have been happy to give him a bat and signed it — that's more than a baseball, anyway. But that's OK, I have a souvenir, I'm happy." I don't begrudge fans going for the dollars when we're talking about big amounts of money — say, Bonds' 756th or McGwire's 70th — but Carson is a 28-year-old right fielder who took seven years to reach the bigs and probably isn't headed to the Hall of Fame. Honestly, the ball isn't worth $10,000 to anyone and, heck, it probably isn't worth $1,000. Really, the keepsake's only value comes in any sentiment Carson might have toward it and after working so hard to reach his dream of making the big leagues, it's a ball he certainly deserved to have after giving its recipient the traditional payment of some other memorabilia, an autograph and a handshake. Here's hoping that "fan" comes to his senses and realizes the ball means a lot more to Carson than to his money-minded self.
