  5. while its nice to have a little extra $ in the pocket, just like the '01 "rebate" (even though it was really a tax refund advance) will have little to no effect on things. you can only delay the inevitable so long... it sucks, but we're going to have to take our lumps before it gets better. no vodoo-economic tricks will fix this. at the same time, its time for corporate america to pick up its slack. this economy has been running "luke warm" on consumer spending alone for at least 5 years. corporate spending has remained pretty flat while profits have been rising. (up until this past qtr)
  6. 1 AAA prospect and 1 AA prospect he's only signed for 1 yr. Why would we get more for him than Freddy G?
  7. either colon or lieber would be a better use of $4.5 million than Juan Uribe will be for the 08 Sox.
  8. lease.... boy that's what I get for typing before my cup of coffee. (plus i work in the leasing business)
  9. thought this would be a fun topic... Top 2 contenders for me are 1) US Cellular with the college girl talking about how some sales rep at US Cellular helps her Dad read his mail. Reminds me of the story where Philip Morris donated $10 million to charity and then spent $100 million advertising the fact that they donated $10 million to charity. 2) That Kia commercial where the guy dances to "maniac on the dance floor" and then gets water poured on him at the end. There is some creepy about a guy doing a pelvic thrust at a Kia Sophia.
  10. hey if anyone cares, I'm selling some MAC software right now. All deinstalled from computers. Office 2004, Roxio Toast 6, Adobe Illustrator CS, Photoshop CS, Acrobat 6.0 professional. PM me if interested. Would love to sell to some Soxtalkers for a discount.
  11. from what ive read, there's only 1 (D) on the Michigan ballot. why not play some nice defense.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jan 11, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) Interesting take on Michigan. EDIT: By the way, why is Hillary the only Dem on the Michigan ballot? Even though the delegates don;t count there will be people who do not pay very close attention and notice that she "Won easily" in Michigan. every Michigan (D) should be voting for Ron Paul.
  13. i hope that every democrat in Michigan votes for him.
  14. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) He would be taxed roughly $7,336,103 based on the current system. So, he would need to spend the equivalent of $5,643,156 today (5,643,156 x 30% sales tax = $7,336,102.80) math error. if he pays $7,336,103 under the system today, they would have to buy $24,453,676 worth of items to equal the same amount. ($24,453,676 x .30= $7,336,103)
  15. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) I just did a quick calculation... Based on $60,000 a year income (pre-taxes) you pay $8,218 in federal taxes. So, you would need to spend the equivalent of $6321.54 today (6321.54 x 30% sales tax = $8218.00) math error... if you pay $8,218 in taxes under the current system, under the 30% sales tax system would would have to buy $27,393 worth of items. ($27,393 x .30= $8,218)
  16. let me just preface this comment with the fact that I know absolutely 0 about Fair Tax.... however a thought occurred to me. if the fair tax is based upon taxing consumption at the 23-26% level, tied with the increase in the global economy/internet, wouldn't many individuals (and corporations) buy as much as they could on-line or overseas and ship it in at a dramatically lower cost? Basically, rather than walking into Old Navy and getting $100 worth of items + (23% tax)= $123, couldn't I just go on-line and purchase this from Old Navy in Canada and ship to the US for far less??? On a far larger scale, couldn't a business order all of their papergoods from Mexico??? How would fair tax effect eBay sales?
  17. IMO Bill was the best of the bunch. I hope he either (a) continues as govenor until 2010 when term limits kick in (B) gets a VP slot or © after the term limit, he enters the US Senate from NM. He's too good to waste.
  18. They are out of ballots!!!! According to Drudge, Democratic turnout is so high, that the NH SOS has had to make special trips out to Seacoast – Hampton, Portsmouth – and Southern Hillsborough – Pelham, Nashua – to bring extra democratic ballots. Many towns are reporting shortages... Developing...
  19. shoot, take a look at any course list at colleges. I went to UIC... there was such bogus courses as * History of Sports * Sports and Drugs * Bowling * Tennis * Basketball, etc... My wife went to ISU. There were such bogus courses as... * Dance * Golf * Women in Literature (Lesbian Poetry) Not necessarily "higher education"
  20. isnt that the Univ of Michigan's decision, not yours or mine?
  21. Since it's hard to read, here is the table ORANGE= Iraq and Afghanistan universal health coverage provided by US war funding GRAY= Countries without universal healthcare DARK GREEN= Countries with some form of universal healthcare LIGHT GREEN= Countries trying to implement universal healthcare
  22. interesting looking map, for all to enjoy and fight over.
  23. personally, i declare shennanigans on those reports.
  24. its all about how much $ you make/contribute today. there is also a yearly max of $102k. any income you earn over $102k, doesn't have ss benefits deducted from it, thus you keep more today, but don't get any additional benefits on that in the future.
  25. Because of 2nd choice ballots... 1. Obama 35% 2. Edwards 32% 3. Clinton 30% 4. Non-Vote/Other 3% In first run ballots, I'd think it goes... 1. Clinton 27% 2. Obama 25% 3. Edwards 23% 4. Richardson 9% 5. Biden 6% 6. Dodd 5% 7. Kucinich 4% 8. Gravel
