QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Dude, isn't it supposed to be at least on some level a charity? Do you really need that $.51 that badly? then lets call it a charity and not a loan. as someone who "loans" money all day long to businesses, the lender isn't supposed to lose $ on each and every deal. why not just cancel out the loan all together, figure out how much $ kiva and paypal would be taking from me and just give it to the individual with no strings attached?
-
i think you are correct about paypal. thus i'm assuming that they'll charge me a fee to get my money back (if I get it back) while i think this is a great idea, i don't quite understand why the loans don't charge a nominal (say 2-4%) interest rate. that would at least cover the kiva "donation" and paypal fees. if it's a 6 month loan of $25, 4% would mean that the receipient would need to pay me $25.51 in 6 months.
-
here's where i'm confused. 1) are these loans made at a 0% rate? 2) what if someone doesn't pay back? 3) does kiva charge a fee? 4) if you are using paypal, don't you get dinged with paypal fees each way/time money is exchanged?

why do you think this, in general. The gambling aspect?

i feel bad for them, but I so want to see a MLB team in Las Vegas. (then again, I hear that the 51's don't draw very well)
-
A's co-owner Lew Wolff says the team will leave Oakland even if Fremont, Cali. doesn't approve a plan to build a new stadium. "We don't want to move. We don't want to start pitting cities against each other, but it's out of the question we'll stay in Oakland," Wolff said after a speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. Moving out of the Coliseum will put an end to the largest foul territory in the majors and A's pitchers ERAs should increase a little as a result. The move sounds like it is at least five years away from happening so Dan Haren owners really shouldn't be too concerned. Source: San Francisco Chronicle

is this right??? One is 16-year-old shortstop Juan Silverio, who is playing in the Instructional League after receiving a $600,000 bonus.
-
absolutely, thus my production cost comment is accurate. but you've got to believe that in cost-analysis of product distribution, companies certainly take disposable income or income levels in general, into equation.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 04:19 PM) We invade them, duh.

i certainly agree with this point 100%. I think the two are tied closely together though. On one hand, if "the rich get richer", manufacturers and designers of high end goods, say Coach purses or Mercedes cars for example, will start charging more and more for their products since their "targeted" consumer base can afford to pay this higher cost since their income levels are skyrocketing. On the other hand, people who are living outside their means, trying to keep up with the Joneses, and buying this purse or car, will be digging themselves further and further into debt. it's funny, i was talking about this concept with my wife the other day (even though I think it went over her head) why does McDonalds charge $5.50 for a Big Mac Meal in d-twn Chicago, but the same meal was $3.89 in rural Wisconsin. Certainly production costs are higher in Chicago, however I'd argue that McDonalds has determined that disposible income in Chicago is higher than rural Wisconsin and can thus charge an extra .25 per meal to account for this. why does a bottle of Coca Cola cost the equivilent of $0.35 in S. America but runs $1.29 in the US?
-
so the question arises, if this trend is inherently true, then why are we at % levels not equaled since the 20's? even during the go-go 90's and stock market boom of the late 90's/early 00's, we weren't at these levels. Why now? Also, if this trend continues, is this good or bad for the country/economy???

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) They never have crappy jobs on the OC...and everyone's either a doctor, a lawyer, or a politician on tv. jason must be right. its all about supply and demand. if you, as a high school kid, have a choice of washing dishes for $7/hr or being a summer camp counselor for $10/hr, which job would you take? -

i know that i'll enjoy having my tax dollars spent rounding up migrant workers and then spending more money out of my pocket to go out to eat at Chillis because we've replaced (5) $6/hr workers with (5) $10/hr workers. tied with increasing mortgage forclosures, a 100.5% spending rate (US individuals spend more $ than they make as a whole now) the gigantic trade deficit, the continuing devaluation of the dollar and a gigantic budget deficit, I'm sure that a drop in corporate profits and/or increasing consumer debt & squeezing the middle/lower class is exactly what this country needs. Plus, removing say 2-3 million retail spending consumers (rent, food, local sales taxes, etc) will certainly help the local economies which are struggling now more than ever. There's no perfect answer here. -

yeah i wasnt sure about the sheriff's thing either. I had originally called the Township which the landscaper is located in to see if they had any type of assistance program. They didn't and suggested that I call the Kane County State's Attorney's office. I called them who then said go work with the Sheriff?? I guess the brick co has some sort of assistance program with their distributors in cases like this. thanks for the ideas!!!
-
so i'm struggling to get my landscape company to come out and perform contractually obligated/required maintenance work on my brick paver patio. They keep pushing me off further and further. My next steps are to (1) contact the county sheriff (i live in unincoporated Kane County) to file a Civil complaint (2) contact the BBB to file a complaint and seek assistance (3) contact Unilock (the brick manufacturer) to see if they can assist (4) have a lawyer write an "informative" letter Any other suggestions on what to do? Has anyone else dealt with similar situations?
