QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 02:57 PM) Why would players hate doing something like that? From what I have read, many players on the Sox are avid golfers in the offseason and 1/2 this team thinks it's been the off season for 2 months now.
-
The mood around the team Sunday was status quo. A.J. Pierzynski complained about having to autograph for Kids Day at U.S. Cellular Field. Come-on AJ, you're better than that.

is this the same guy??? Alex Sánchez (baseball player) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search This article is about the baseball center fielder. For the baseball pitcher, see Alex Anthony Sanchez. Alex Sanchez Free agent — No. 26 Center field Bats: Left Throws: Left Major League Baseball debut June 15, 2001 for the Milwaukee Brewers Selected MLB statistics (through October 2, 2006) Batting average .296 Home Runs 6 RBIs 111 Former teams Milwaukee Brewers (2001–2003) Detroit Tigers (2003–2004) Tampa Bay Devil Rays (2005) San Francisco Giants (2005) Alexis (Alex) Sanchez, (born August 26, 1976 in Havana, Cuba), is a Major League Baseball center fielder. On April 3, 2005, he became the first Major League Baseball player to be suspended for violating the league's newly adopted drug policy, [1] which is designed to stop the use of anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. He was suspended for 10 days without pay, an amount totaling to $32,787. Although the use of performance-enhancing drugs is generally associated with home run hitters, Sanchez had four career home runs in 1,351 at-bats at the time of his suspension. Sanchez did not appeal the suspension and stated that he routinely used over the counter nutritional supplements, one of which was banned on January 15, and that he had not checked what he was using against the new rules. Sanchez immigrated from Cuba on a raft, in 1994, at the age of eighteen. He and his companions were picked up by the Coast Guard after three days at sea, they were detained at Guantanamo Bay. Sanchez stayed there for about 16 months, and afterwards settled in Miami, Florida. He became a United States citizen in late 2004. He is married with two sons. Sanchez attended Miami-Dade Community College. He was drafted 154th, in the 5th round of the 1996 MLB Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In 2001, he was claimed off of waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers, and played his first game on June 15, 2001. Sanchez was the starting center fielder for the Brewers by 2002, but his erratic defensive play and poor attitude in the clubhouse got him traded to the Detroit Tigers during the 2003 season. On March 15, 2005, he was released by the Tigers, due mostly to his poor performance defensively. Shortly afterward he was reacquired by the Devil Rays. Sanchez is known for his quick reactions and base-stealing abilities, and is one of the few players in the Major Leagues who bunts frequently; however, he is a poor defensive player, and is often inconsistent in his fielding. He spent most of 2004 with a leg injury. On June 13, 2005, Sánchez was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays despite a .346 batting average. Sánchez had not been playing every day, due to his inconsistent defensive play, and manager Lou Piniella said Sánchez was unhappy because he wanted to be an everyday player. The player signed with the San Francisco Giants ten days later. He played just 19 games for the Giants before getting injured. When he recovered from his injury, instead of reinstating him onto their active roster, the Giants released him. On March 25, 2006, was signed to a minor league contract by the Cincinnati Reds. On June 16, 2006, Sánchez was released by the Reds after hitting only .225 in 38 games with their Triple-A affiliate the Louisville Bats. [1] He was signed to a minor-league contract by the Florida Marlins on December 8, 2006, and was expected to compete for the starting center field role in Spring Training. He was released by the Marlins on March 28, 2007, after batting .163 in Spring Training and losing the center field job to rookie Alejandro De Aza.

how much $ does WMP make? How much $ does JD make? remember, the goal here was salary not talent. Certainly Pods didnt outperform C. Lee in 2005, either. But the salary dump allowed the Sox to be more flexible in other FA signings.

In Darin's defense, when it counted, he hit .264 in 48 Games. Also stole 7 bases. That's more than I can say about some other current roster players. (Fields, Podsednik, Owens, Dye, Cintron, Gonzalez, Terrero, Uribe and Hall) Not saying that he is the greatest in the world, but when healthy (big when) he's better than 1/2 the team.

MacDougal is now 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 7.2IP. Given up 6 hits, 1 run (unearned) 1 Walk and 10 Strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .207 off him. I think he's ready to be recalled.

i think the point that i'm trying to make here, is that everyone knew that the bullpen was an issue back in mid-late May. Why are we sitting here in late July with the problem still unfixed? Would a corrected bullpen saved the season??? hard to tell. i would guess we would have 6-7 more wins right now if we had quality, major league talent in there. 6-7 more wins, puts the sox around .500 with a fighting chance for post season play.
-
quite true.. so maybe you have to overpay a bit to get a middle reliever in May rather than July. What a difference it would have made.
-
not sure if its still around but i had made a post about 16 relievers in just the AL that are from teams with no chance of competiting. (TB, Balt, TX, KC, etc) The point is, that when he had a chance and the team had a chance, KW chose to do nothing. Now, when the team is past the point of no return, any move that KW makes to better the team is too late. He didn't give the team a chance to win in 2007.

so I read a stat the other day, that the Sox's bullpen, including Bobby Jenks had a 7+ era since May 8th. lets assume that by May 20th, everyone knew that the bullpen was in bad shape? so what has KW done to fix this problem? 5/27/07- Sent Andrew Sisco to AAA 5/28/07- Called up Dewon Day 6/4/07- Sent Mike McDougal to AAA 6/4/07- Called up Bret Prinz and Ryan Bukvich 6/16/07- Put Dewon Day on the DL 6/16/07- Called up David Aardsma 6/21/07- Sent Bret Prinz to AAA who refused assignment 7/4/07- Sent David Aardsma to AAA 7/5/07- Called up Gavin Floyd from AAA 7/6/07- Put Mike McDougal on the DL 7/6/07- Reinstated Dewon Day from the DL 7/10/07- Sent Gavin Floyd to AAA 7/12/07- Called up Charlie Haegar from AAA 7/17/07- Sent Nick Masset to AAA 7/17/07- Called up Ehren Wasserman from AAA The Sox were 21-19 on May 20th. Still within reach of the Wild Card or Division. KW choose to not make any trades for bullpen help, yet now he says we are in buyers mode???

interesting stat... in 2002, Joe Crede made an error in 15% of the games he played with the Sox. This dropped to 9% in 2003, 8% in 2004, 7% in 2005 and 6% in 2006. in 2007, Josh Fields has made an error in 9% of the games he played with the Sox.

no chatter around here about Senator Vitter? http://news.aol.com/story/_a/alleged-madam...709224309990001 rumor has it, Cheney was on her rolodex too. Not for personal use, but for business use when he was at Halliburton.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 13, 2007 -> 03:13 AM) This seems like a good thread to ask the question. Seriously, to all of you who I trust with knowledge of baseball: Can you identify or could KW identify somebody the Sox could acquire from a non contender to pitch the sixth and seventh innings or seventh and eighth preferably? Is anybody out there we could get for a prospect or two? Anybody??? Just looking at stats alone, which I know can be a problem, I can find 16 in just the AL alone. There's got to be 1 or 2 amongst the 16, without a no trade clause, injury free with a favorable contract that we can deal 1-2 prospects for. Baltimore J. Walker 1-1 3.03ERA 32.2IP 44G C. wow. I used to put Giuliani in the acceptable, but not preferred candidate group, not any more.
-
as Ozzie once said, you can't win the Kentucky Derby unless you have the horse(s). Since May, we've known that our bullpen was horrible. What has Kenny done to give Ozzie the horses you need to be a contender? Now, its too late.

anyone know the exact # of times this lineup was used in 2007? LF- Podsednik CF- Erstad DH- Thome 1B- Konerko RF- Dye 2B- Iguchi 3B- Crede C- Pierzynski SS- Uribe it has to be under 20.

this is disgusting. you've reached a new low GWB. anyone know how many millions of tax payer dollars were spent prosecuting this criminal just to have the President wipe it away?
-
or the sox immediately signing Buehrle after the contract extension was in place to make him more valuable?

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) Royce Ring has 6.1 innings pitched this year. Why is he even on this list? who would you suggest replacing him with?

Borchard is on my 40-man, ex-White Sox roster. Along with Scot Schoenweis.

quite simply, increasing mileage standards is a matter of national security. if we can use this excuse to invade countries and spend trillions of dollars rebuilding them, we can use it to get a Lincoln Navigator to get 35mpg's.

so for those on the board who are against providing health-care for all, either paid by employers or the government... who should be responsible for say a $13,000 bill for an ambulence trip to the ER, ER work for 15 minutes and the death of my father-in-law? should it really cost $200 to get my teeth cleaned for 15 minutes? Should dentists really be charging $800 an hour? the whole system is out of whack. Pull out insurance and we are in a world of hurt. so if you pull out insurance, who can afford to get their teeth cleaned for $200? Then 1 of 2 things happen... 1) People don't clean their teeth. Huge medical issues arise 2) Government regulates the cost a dentist can charge for a teeth-cleaning. which one do you prefer?
