jasonxctf replied to Steve9347's topic in 2007 Season in Review
anyone know the lines on Garland and Buehrle? -
doesnt this thread start to fall under the... "you give a man a fish and he eats for a day. you teach a man how to fish and he eats for a lifetime" theory??? so the answers here aren't handouts they are job training, education, internships etc.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/news/16764023.htm wow. more than 12% of the US Population (300 million) lives in poverty. That's sad.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) So why doesn't Stern start his own satellite venture? With all those subscribers, just wanting his show, cut the expense of all those other channels and have an all Stern channel. If he is responsible for almost 1/4 of all satellite subscribers, he could single handily shut down the industry. if it didnt cost $1 billion to put a satelitte in orbit, he might have just done that.

i cant think of any right now.. maybe Verizon.. MCI is long gone. Then you've got a boatload of really small players who dont even advertise in my area. The one thing I can think of that spun post AT&T/SBC merger was that Comcast now offers phone service through VOIP. Which may be XM/Sirius's answer to the monopoly question. There are plenty of pay-radio stations on the net, (and some freebies) that could compete in certain areas.

just think if the justice department allowed AT&T and SBC to merge, why not XM and Sirius.

Satellite, Sirius Seen Announcing Merger Monday - NY Post (Not rated) 12 minutes ago Satellite, Sirius Seen Announcing Merger Monday - NY Post Feb 19, 2007 09:23:15 (ET) DOW JONES NEWSWIRES XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XMSR) and rival Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (SIRI) are expected to announce their long-awaited merger Monday, the New York Post reported in its online edition, citing a source familiar with the deal. The two sides were locked in negotiations over the weekend trying to hammer out a final agreement, the newspaper reported, citing the same, unnamed source. Talks were still going on and the deal could fall apart at any time, the New York Post said. With antitrust issues of paramount importance, the newspaper cited its source as saying lawyers for both companies were working overtime to fine-tune the language of the agreement and frame the discussion around the deal itself and not regulatory concerns. According to the New York Post's source, XM Chairman Gary Parsons would retain his title in the combined entity, with Sirius' Mel Karmazin likely taking the chief executive role, the newspaper said. It is unclear what role, if any, XM CEO Hugh Panero would play, according to the report. Washington-based XM ended the third quarter with 7.19 million subscribers, while New York-based Sirius ended with 5.1 million. A merger would join Sirius content, such as Howard Stern, Frank Sinatra and Nascar, with XM's Oprah Winfrey, Bob Dylan and Major League Baseball.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070209/ap_on_...nt_popular_vote my favorite part of the article is... "If you look at the population trends ... if this were to become the law, our presidential elections would be controlled by the vote in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Houston," said North Dakota state Rep. Lawrence Klemin, a Bismarck Republican. "They would decide who the president was, not the rest of us." My comeback to this comment would be... if everyone had an equal vote, then yes, those areas in which more people live would have a greater impact on elections.

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) Did I miss Juan Uribe's Gold Glove presentation? Must have been on the same day he was near that murder. Anyways, yes, I don't appreciate guys like A-Rod, Jeter, Tejada. They never hit the ball past the pitcher. Of course Uribe actually has to make contact to get it past the pitcher. come on now... juan pops it up in foul ground at least to the 1st or 3rd base bag.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Buehrle, Garland, and Contreras beg to differ With how dependant upon defense the White Sox are, a loss like Uribe would be bigger than anyone would imagine. Imagine Mackowiak x2 - and Cintron isn't even horrendous at SS. seriously though what is Buehrle, Garland and Contreras going to say... "yeah, we'll be fine if Uribe misses some time. It's no big loss??" These guys will stand up for their teammates no matter what. When Widger was getting his ass handed to him, you didn't see the pitching staff lining up calling for his release did you??

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 04:27 PM) Uribe's real crime is pitch selection. that's why his absence won't be missed.

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Feb 7, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) Where are those odds from? There are some definite surprises in there. First and foremost is the Cubs having such great odds and the other Sox being at only 10-1. The Giants 10-1? Hmmm.... bodog

the sox are 8-1 odds to win the world series. Yankess 7-2 Tigers 5-1 Cubs 8-1 White Sox 8-1 Mets 8-1 Cardinals 8-1 Angels 10-1 Red Sox 10-1 Giants 10-1

what more can you say. im not defending her, just saying it was a mistake. so you've got 2 choices... 1) keep believing it wasnt a mistake and defend a bad decision (stay the course) 2) admit your mistakes and move on/try and fix them would you be happier with Hillary if she stubbornly defends a decision that she now knows was wrong?
-
Right now I think that either Clinton or Obama can beat the field by at least 5 points. The closest one in a national poll/race is McCain. He'd come within 2-3%.

she made a mistake. it happens.

i have used wheresgeorge.com pretty neat but gave up after a few months. just didnt find that many hits. the few i did get were pretty neat though. (i do however think that the banks and federal govt have made a point to take these bills out of circulation and squash the program)

in case you missed it... White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Jose Contreras would be his Opening Day starter. He'll be followed in the rotation by Mark Buehrle, Jon Garland and Javier Vazquez. Garland remains in the middle despite winning eight more games than either Contreras or Buehrle over the last two seasons. Gavin Floyd is the early favorite to take the fifth spot.
