QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I don't think Viciedo has anything to do with Alexei's improved play. Vizquel yes, with his tips in the field and "mentoring" role. You don't think having another young player from the same country (Cuba) who speaks the same language and has played with/against you in Cuba doesn't help Alexi's comfort. I think that is neive, I'm not saying on field performance per se but rather it helps Alexi relax after an error, a bad at bat, or game and he can talk to another player in his own language.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:59 PM) No thanks. Viciedo might be someone is a year or so that outshines a rental player like Dunn. Santos might be out closer. Both are extremely affordable. I am not into paying any hitter not named Konerko 14 or 15 million a year. I agree, I probably over value Viciedo but in my eyes he is untouchable. I know Vizquel has a lot to do with Alexi's great season. But it can't be overlooked he started playing a lot better when Viciedo came up. Viciedo ha a shot to be a top power guy in the AL in a year or two.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/07/rang...cantu-deal.html Seems the market for Dunn is shrinking with the Angels likely selling, the Rangers most likely getting Cantu, and the rays have been rumored not to have that much interest in him (the wanted Werth). I think KW is waiting out Rizzo because he knows they won't extend him for the $ wanted. I truly could see Kenny pullin if a Dunn deal with reasonable prospect expense. ( I also think from reports it makes sense he is also looking for a mid rotation arm to add, in case we give up Huddy)
-
Ken_Rosenthal #WhiteSox exploring hitters other than Dunn, not all LH. Are "all over the place," source says. Also looking for mid-rotation starter. #MLB 18 minutes ago Kinda goes with the Lilly thing being he is a mid rotation starter. The more that comes out the more it looks Kenny will try to aggressively upgrade the offense and rotation , hopefuly. Thank god there is only 3 days left the deadline drives me crazy.

Got ya, my bad.

The more I think about it the more I like Matsui. He not only is a perfect fit in the lineup. But he also bring in extra revenue for 8 weeks with how big he is in japan. Although with that you also get his media circus which may disrupt "team chemistry"
-
I may be putting too much into to this but I believe some teams may be turned off by the fact Viciedo is owed 10 mil a year (I believe) for a guy who is still a work in progress.
-
Please NO. Branyan has a bad back and is a sneeze away from the DL again. Hawk keeps saying how powerful a lefty he is and talks him up everytime at the plate. May be something, or not. Also I really really don't want to trade Viciedo. I truly believe he will be a great MLB player soon.

Truthfuly I would love either matsui or abreu. I think abreu fits ozzies scheme he still steals bags, takes a lot of pitches, and reaches base often (no so much this year). Last year they were saying abreu turned the philosophy around for angels hittin last year. When he came over the team became more patient at the plate. Matsui is a little less a option since he is just a DH at this point. However after the show he put on in the playoffs last year, I would have no prov with his bat. I also think he would benefit moving from angels stadium to the cell. Count me in on either of these guys, plus we know KW liked both of them the last few years.
-
Downs or marcum sure, I seriously doubt the Jays trade Marcum and Downs asking price is flat out ridiculous.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) if we're going to add a middling starter i'd much prefer westbrook to lilly. he seems like a better fit to me. reports on Westbrook he has some crazy incentives if he gets traded; something like he is owed 2 extra million this year. No too mention the twins and tigers see him to much. Personally I rather have Teddy.
-
The only two guys that interest me on the blue jays are Bautista (although I don't think he is a fit, righty with a bad average) and overbay (rather stand pat then trade prospects for him). But sure seems Kenny has scouts everywhere looking for a piece or two to improve.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) You are really going to use the wind blowing in excuse? Ok, whatever, I watched the white sox game too, and he wasnt just letting the hitters hit it up into the wind and counting on his outfielders, he was thoroughly dominating the Sox with his inside cutter. And of the starts he lost, he gave up 3 runs in 2 of the 5 games, did he go long enough to get a quality start? Im not saying Lilly is a great pitcher by any stretch, but I think he could be a fine #4 starter this year if it were to come to that. Strange how everyone is so afraid of Lilly going to the Twins, yet wants no part of him on the Sox I have to agree, Lilly will be a servicable 4th starter if the sox were to acquire him. In the cell or on the road I think he fives your team a chance to win everytime on the mound, and that's all you could ask for. I have heard multiple opposing team broadcast that talk about te competitior he is and I love that in a pitcher. However the only way I see this trade happening or being a success is if KW has another deal the includes hudson. Also IMO if the twins get Lilly, they would get more out of him. Their ballpark I huge and will only play bigger when the temp. Drops in late aug and sept. That's why I would love to block them, if this was a precursor to another deal.
-
I figured it would be more of a divisonal thing like most players have. JD had one against the NL west and Lilly had mist the the AL central so who knows. Lee lives in California (that's where his home home is) and he turned down the chance to play for the Angels for Christ sake, no one turns down the halos.
-
Important Question: Are the Whitesox on Lilly's no trade list? I know Minny is and I also believe Detroit is. Plus I hear that cubs players are afraid to play for contenders. They rather play mediocre ball, just like the ball their fans pay to see.
-
That roster competes with anybody AL or NL. Neither of the moves are huge that will turn a clubhouse over, in other words no one loses a job like JD did basically with Rios coming over in 09. I really believe the clubhouse was divided after that and that's why we went down hilll from there. Rios said it was uncomfortable plus the whole watching football incident. I think the clubhouse was horrible last year and that's why everyone is talking so much about chemistry this week.
-
After seeing Kalapse's post disregard previous post that would be interesting at the cell. Although I could see the sox working the rotation for Lilly to pitch on the road with the days off left. It'd be interestif barring another move to upgrade the offense.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:25 AM) Ted Lilly+AL+our ballpark=recipe for disaster. That said, beggars can't be choosers. Why the f*** did Peavy have to get hurt!? honestly the cell is not any worse and probably better the Wriley field. I think the whole US cellualr field thing is overratted. Granted it's a small sample size but post game live had a stat saying in the last 20 games at home our pitching has a 2.20 or something era. All pitchers learn to pitch to their ballpark.
-
Truthfuly this may sound crazy but I think Hendry would give the sox a decent rate for Lilly. Him an KW have said in the past they wouldnt overcharge one another if they were in a divisonal race. I think Morel is going to be a good MLB player maybe a Micheal cuddyer like player and agree would hate to see him go to the north side and succeed. However I dont think the cubs would want morel they have Vitters in triple A. I would think flowers or Gatrell plus a few AA pitchers get it done. That move with a Dunn deal, Hudson+one of the trio would kill at farm system but worse comes to worse, they both probably walk after the season and we get A and B compensation to rebuild. Plus these two in my opinion would be cohesive with the chemistry of the team. Lilly is prob friend with a few sox players. Just hold on to the Tank and Beckham my only un touchables the rest of the farm is available. This team is good but needs to add!!
-
I would love Lilly he is a gutsy competitor who I think who strive with our rotation guy. On top of that, we keep him away from the twinkie and Yankees potentially. I do however think it is essential then for KW to trade Hudson+flowers/morel/or D2 for Dunn. Go for the jugguler an really put ourselves as playoff and divison competitors.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:36 AM) I think he was referring to the Angels, who reportedly wanted Lee. Since Lee's a non-option, it's assumed they'll up their bid for Dunn. I was indeed referring to the Angels, as well as the Rangers who were more or less looking for a temporary first basemen. Not necessarily lefty handed hitters. They both have solid 1B, one is hurt Morales and the other needs more time (and the rangers are in it to win it). That's why Dunn or Lee made sense for either both line ups have balance and the need for a stop gap. With the Angels, Rangers, and Rays all "in" I don't like our chances they have great farm and could afford to give up prospects.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) REALLY looks like Oswalt is a Philly: Ken_Rosenthal FOX 26 in Houston reporting #Astros and #Phillies have deal in place for Oswalt. Trying to confirm. His approval would be required. #MLB 12 minutes ago via web from what I've read Phi would be hard pressed to afford Oswalt if they held onto Werth. I would love to see the sox get Werth and JA Happ from Philly. If they do indeed land Oswalt, their rotation is plain nasty Halladay/Oswalt/Hamels/Blanton?/? all I know is that would be a deadly threesome in the playoffs. That's why I kinda would rather add a vetran pitcher at the deadline. Depending on the cost Ted Lilly really wouldn't be too bad at this point BUherls/Floyd/Danks/Lilly/Sweaty.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) They got a good look at Sergio who had one of his most impressive outings of the season tonight. They sure did, I love Sergio his fastball is electric obviously and once he gets a hang of throwing his slider and breaking pitches reg. IMO he will be lights out. He reminds me of Jenks 05' and would hate to see us trade him. With that said I wonder what his value is to other teams with the relief market being bare and outrageously expensive in terms of prospects teams have to give up. I obviously think his value is really high, he has pitched for less than a year and not only has the stuff but foritude of a closer already. I could really see him being a key part to a Fielder trade (although no Mil scouts were at the game according to the article).
-
People on the Chicago side agree with other reports; market for Dunn increasing with D Lee's fear of leaving the comfort of the North Side Mediocricy. Lots of scouts were also at the game granted we were also playing Seattle who have to be sellers. Per chicagobreakingsports: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...de-options.html

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) An under the radar pitcher the Sox could try and get is Jorge De La Rosa from the Rockies. He's a free agent at the end of the year, the Sox have made trades with Colorado before, and he has great stuff that KW likes. He kind of reminds me of a Javy Vazquez type pitcher, great stuff but struggles at times. He's going to be a type B FA. I'm not sure what he would cost or what the Rockies are looking for but he'd look nice in the the #4/5 pitching slot. You may be on to something actually. According to an article on chicagobreakingsports.com, KW's top scout was watching the Rockies recently. For who exactly they mention Hawpe (who I wouldn't mind). But I would be perfectly fine with adding De La Rosa or Arron Cook for a few lower tier prospects IF we traded Hudson for a Dunn or Feilder or top lefty bat. I think those moves would complement each other nicely. I also think Coop has showed he knows how to refine pitchers who throw "Junk" (Shingo-Time, Contrearas, Orlando Hudson, Javy V, and even Floyd when he first came over he couldn't find the strike zone with his curve). Good call Lemon. Link to article: http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...de-options.html
