  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 09:44 AM) No reason they can't take one. The Packers still do it every year. The Packers have only drafted one QB in the last 5 drafts.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Is vegetative state the same as a coma? I'm no Dr. No way I would want to live like that for 7 years. Hope my family would let me go. Vegetative state and a coma are not quite the same. If someone is in a vegetative state, they may show signs of being awake (such as opening and closing eyes), but they have no awareness or cognitive ability.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 1, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) Wasn't he also on one of the Star Trek tv series as well? Yes. Also voiced the Shredder in the original TMNT cartoon series.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) Any stats geeks out there who can give a confidence number based on the 569 ballots cast last year? It's really hard to apply any statistical significance to this type of thing. If you were talking about a random lot. Say how many bad parts a company manufactured out of 569, we would already have enough data at just 16% to make a fairly accurate call. The problem here is that you're dealing with humans. There are so many old crotchety guys that have hall of fame votes that a) will not publish them and b) are the guys that would have a vendetta against steroid guys/DH/whatever the hell is they have issues with. That gizmo has shown to be accurate within around 10% in past years, so I would say it's looking pretty good for Frank.
  5. Frank up to 89.1% with 16% of the votes accounted for. I know it won't happen, but it would be awesome to see him crack 90%.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 31, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) When is Rock's last year? He didn't retire until 2002 so his last eligible year would be 2022. I almost guarantee he'll make it eventually, I'd just rather it be sooner than later.
  7. I'd really like to see Frank, Maddux, Glavine, Biggio and Piazza all get in this year. Next year can be Pedro and Johnson. In 2016 the only sure fire HOFer is Griffey. That will really help clear the ballot and open the door for the next level guys like Mussina, Bagwell and Rock Raines. I think it is absolutely a joke that Rock Raines is not yet in the HOF.
  8. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) Tim Beckman gets paid a lot more than you do to coach football! He clearly knows what he's doing.... You think you know more about football than Tim Beckman? Then go try to find a head coaching job and see how far you get.
  9. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) So you're down 4 instead of potentially 3 or 5? You guys can argue it all you want, but I just about guarantee McCarthy was thinking the same thing I am. The majority of coaches in the NFL are not going to chase points with that much time left on the clock. There's a reason McCarthy is making $5 million a year as a HC and why we're sitting here arguing on a message board.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) It's flawed logic though. Either way in your scenario you're going to need a 2 point conversion, it doesn't make sense to wait for attempting it especially when you can tie the game up with going for it right away. That's why I said you trust your defense to hold them to a FG or less knowing you are going to get the ball back. Worst case scenario you still have the opportunity to go for two to tie at the end. If you go for two and fail and the Bears score a TD, it's basically game over and you have no options. The way the game was going, I don't think anybody in their right mind would have thought the go would go to overtime at 28-28.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) Ya but as you said you don't trust your defense. Think about it...you're not going for two there just so you can possibly go for two later? That makes no sense. You're not going for two because you want to keep it within one score no matter what happens. The key is that there was still 11-12 minutes left in the game which all but guaranteed the Packers would get another posession. If there were 6-7 minutes left, he would have gone for two no questions asked. The way I always hear people say it is that you don't chase points until you have to. 11 plus minutes left is not yet crunch time.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) Anyone who votes for Sosa is an idiot. Anyone who turns in a ballot with less than 10 names is an idiot. The guys I think are idiots are the ones I've seen who were voting for Bonds but not Clemens or vice versa. What's the logic in that?
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) We were going back and forth on that challenge decision. Because they lost that challenge on the punt touchback, they would have been out of challenges even if it was called a touchdown. I think Trestman was worried about needing another challenge later and put faith in his offense that they could gain the one half yard, even though they had struggled with it all year. Speaking of coaching decisions, how in the hell did McCarthy not go for two in the 4th? They obviously won the game, but had it finished 28-27, he would have had a lot of explaining to do. All coaches have their cheat sheet to tell them when or when not to go for two. He's must have said take the one. Look at it this way. There was a lot of time left in the game and neither team could really stop the other. If McCarthy went for two and failed, the score would be 28-26. Had the Bears drove down field and scored a touchdown, all of the sudden it is a two score game as the score would be 35-26 with probably not very much time left. In that situation I think it was the right call to take the point, trust your defense to hold them to no more than a field goal and keep it a one score game.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) I agree. I actually wasn't upset about that call. Our QB's have been the beneficiaries of plenty of these ticky tack roughing penalties as well. Seems like everyone is the beneficiary of those calls a lot these days. I understand protecting the QBs, but they are starting to take it too far. It's hard to blame the refs though, they are just doing as they're instructed.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) I don't have a link, but when I watched it, it looked funny to me. So I went back on the DVR, and in real time it looks close, but when you stop it when he tossed it, and then stop it when it was caught, it wasn't anywhere near close. It was at least 3 yards. That's a pretty big exaggeration. It's hard to tell from the angle, but to me it looks like it was lateralled from the 40 1/2 and Shields caught it at the 40 1/2-40. If it was forward, it was a 1/2 yard at most.
  16. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) How can you say that when you quoted me? LOL it's all good man. I thought we were talking about missed calls for a bit so I thought I'd chime in. All in all the Bears had plenty of opportunities to end the Packer's seasons. 3-4 4th downs and the Packers converted on each one. That's playing better when it counts. Enjoy the victory because the 49ers are going to send you guys golfing. You're probably right. 49ers definitely the favorite, but as the saying goes "Any Given Thursday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday".
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Yeah he has never had a true #1 goalie workload. Hopefully this does pay dues going forward. The nice thing about Raanta seeming like a guy who could be an NHL goalie is that it helps make sure that Craw isn't rushed back. Definitely nice that Raanta has shown he can probably stick in the NHL. Between the injury, the Olympic break and the confidence Q should now have with subbing Raanta with regularity should leave Crawford well rested and ready for another Cup push.
  18. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) Do you think he'll have to go back to being a d-coordinator before he gets another HC gig? I could be wrong, but Schwartz kinda strikes as a one and done as a HC. Lots of good candidates out there for head coaching jobs and I don't think he is going to be at the top of anybody's list.
  19. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Obviously you can't read homeslice as I stated the Packers played better when it counted. Not referring to just you or even this message board in general. Games over. Refs miss calls every game and the officiating in this game was not any worse than any other so let's just move on. I just get sick of people using the refs as an excuse. My facebook feed is ridiculous after a Packers loss with some of my "friends" blaming the refs because the Packers lost by 20 points.
  20. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:16 AM) I'm not really a football expert but was Conte doing his job there or did he completely goof up. He dun goofed. I think he was assuming that Cobb was going to just run a curl to the first down marker. Cobb said that he recognized Conte was back on his heels so he threw his hand up and ran a streak.
  21. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Yeah.... right. I guarantee if the roles we're reversed, you'd be screaming bloody murder. Nah. I understand when my team gets beat and don't try to use the refs as a scapegoat.
  22. I don't know if there's anything to this or not, but from the way it looks, the two sites that have been reporting this are newnownext and queerty. Judging from their home pages it looks like they both really push the LGBT agenda so I'm guessing they're really stretching to make this a story.
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) The delay of game penalty they missed was pretty bad. The ball at the one yard line was another, how in the world was that touch back is beyond me. Don't get me wrong, the Packers definitely played better when it counted. They hardly ever call a delay of game in that situtation. They always give that extra 1/2 second.
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 30, 2013 -> 10:38 AM) Oh hey look lets get finicky with descriptions because you dont like the call. Second guy swinging always gets busted, we all know this. Hit to the head always warrants 15 yards. If the ref saw both hits it would have been offsetting penalties, but obviously he didnt. It wasnt ridiculous that the call was made, it was unfortunate that he missed both hits and only saw the second. If they want to call those little ticky tack slaps to the helmet/face mask every time, there would be ten of them a game.
