  1. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) i feel like you are undervaluing Robertson. a guy that saves 39/34/37 over the last 3 seasons isn't awful. besides last year, his ERA has been decent. is he Chapman? no. is he Jansen? no. but he was 10th in saves last year. ahead of Chapman, ahead of Allen, ahead of Krimbell, ahead a Davis. but to you that's not even worth a top 100 prospect? sorry bruh, you're ridiculous. Is it possible some are undervaluing Robertson? Sure, but you are seriously overvaluing him. It's possible he could bring back a top 100 prospect, but that prospect is not going to be Victor Robles. MLB Pipeline has him as the 10th best prospect in baseball. And you think Robertson will bring back him and then some? Not a chance in hell.
  2. I really, really hate to see Eaton go. He is probably my favorite active player in baseball. That being said, it's really hard to be upset with the trade based on the talent we got back. Eaton is definitely one of the few guys that I will ever follow closely after they leave the Sox.
  3. One thing of note that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that Robertson does have a limited no trade clause in which he can block a trade to 5 different teams. One of which is the Dodgers. The others don't really matter (Tigers, A's, Mets, Phillies).
  4. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:58 AM) Like Heyman said, Lou Whitaker has a higher WAR than Derek Jeter. So what? They have a near identical wRC+ for their career (Jeter 119 to Whitaker 118) and Whitaker was the far superior defensive player. Jeter is obviously a 1st ballot Hall of Famer but the fact of the matter is the guy was a statue on defense and is overrated as f***. Lou Whitaker not being in the Hall of Fame is a travesty.
  5. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) He is still obviously eligible for ROY when we call him up right? We can have our own Kris Bryant; Minor League player of the year, Rookie of the year, MVP and World Series champion. Yes he will be eligible. Players lose rookie eligibility after 130 at bats, 50 innings pitched or 45 on the active roster before September.
  6. QUOTE (HoosierSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) Does Moncadas September call up start his service even if he doesn't get called up this year until midseason? Not sure how that works. Yes September service time counts. Moncada currently has 31 days service time. 172 days service time is considered one full year. A player needs 6 full years before they become a free agent. If the Sox keep him down in the minors long enough to prevent him from achieving 172 days service time before the end of 2017 they will get 7 years out of him instead of 6. There are roughly 183 days (though a player is only allowed to accumulate 172 days of service time per season) in the MLB season. To prevent him from achieving 172 days service time they will have to keep him down about 6 weeks. He will probably end up being a "Super 2" player but all that means is that he will get paid through arbitration for 4 years instead of 3, it doesn't affect how long the Sox have him for.
  7. Caulfield is the undisputed king of the tl;dr.
  8. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:41 PM) Good. Frazier isn't very good. He's only averaged 3.7 fWAR per year in his career. What a bum!
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Good. Screw Mike Rizzo. He's still a dick for that EJax Adam Dunn stuff. Eh, I'll give Rizzo a pass. He is the one that scouted Frank Thomas and recommended the Sox draft him after all. He also negotiated Frank's initial signing.
  10. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Kinda wish Boston had not blown a year of service time by calling up Moncada in September...but I'm nit picking now He was up for 31 days. That really doesn't effect the White Sox in any meaningful way. They have him for 6 years. If they wait 6 weeks to call him up they will get a 7th.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) In a rebuilding situation, I would love to see him start in AAA until he passes the mark that would give us an extra year of control. Literally there is no good reason for him to be on the opening day roster. He only has 31 days service time. One full year service time is considered 172 days. There are roughly 183 days in the season so we're talking he will need to stay down about 6 weeks to gain a 7th year out of him. I definitely think that will be the plan.
  12. Thats a steal actually. Hope he stays. I've been a big Lawrie fan since before he came to the South Side.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) Eaton had more BWAR than Sale last year FWIW. They play different positions so it's not exactly comparable, but I thought I'd point that out. I think Eaton would return the Sox just as much in a trade as Sale, if not more. He's an absolute stud. ' Zero chance of that happening.
  14. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) You're not going to get a pile of prospects for the likes of Frazier, Melky, or Robertson. You'll be lucky to get 1 or 2 top 100 guys - and that would be for Frazier only. You can get significant prospects for both Frazier and Robertson. Frazier now, Robertson I would probably wait until the middle of the season. If he regains his form at all he will be a very hot commodity come the trade deadline.
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 11:15 AM) Who are you including in this very, very good core? What are their contract situations? Eaton, Abreu, Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Jones, Anderson, many others waiting in the wings that should be ready by 2018/2019 (Collins, Burdi, Hansen, Fulmer, Danish, Call). Like it or not there are a ton of quality players in this organization. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 11:23 AM) Moving 2 or 3 players doesn't give us the depth dude. Unless those 2 or 3 players were Sale, Q, and Eaton. In which case you're in a full rebuild anyway. We need to trade players for roster depth AND farm depth. We currently have half a roster. Why do it half-ass? Why? You can't wait a few years and do it right? We've been terrible for 10 years anyway. I'm sure we could all survive a rebuild and enjoy watching a roster of young studs mature until they're truly ready to consistently compete anually. If they were to trade away one of Sale/Quintana, and the soon to be gone guys like Frazier, Melky and Robertson they could still get a pile of MLB ready or near ready players and multiple prospects. I'd say we could realistically compete in 2019 if not 2018.
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) If it is going to be a total rebuild, then I think you trade him. If they are going to try to field a good team in 2 years, then keep him. I think anybody that thinks they are going to do a total rebuild is delusional. It's not necessary. Their core is very, very good. They just need to move one or two guys and they will be ready to compete in 2-3 years.
  17. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) Good. Don't half-ass the rebuild. Sell high. Should bring a substantial return. Eaton has 5 years of control and costs nothing. Those are the exact guys you want to keep.
  18. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) He didn't exactly looked like KGJr out there in the very few games he's played. How many games was it? He got hurt in the 5th inning of the 1st Major League game of his career, but I guess that's enough time to decide he isn't any good.
  19. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) Singleton just cleared waivers and would be a throw-in in any trade with the Sox. Im sure he meant to say Springer.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) What does L Garcia make? Seems like a useful utility guy, esp as we've spent over $2 mil per head on Bonificio, Beckham, etc. This is referring to Avi Garcia not Leury. Leury is not even arb eligible yet.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 08:24 AM) OSU is in regardless, I think Wisconsin and Michigan have real shots. Agreed OSU is in. I think the only way WI gets in is if Clemson or Washington loses. If they both win the top 4 teams from this week will remain (maybe a bit off shuffling 2-4). I don't for the life of me see how they can put a 10-2 MI team who came in 3rd in their own division, has lost 2 out of the last 3, one of which was to an unranked IA team that WI beat, ahead of WI at 10-2 whose losses were both to top 5 teams by a combined 14 points and is playing for the conference title. I get that MI beat WI but it was at home, by 7 points, and with WI having key injuries and starting a freshman QB in his second career start. If WI wins and doesn't jump ahead of MI, regardless of whether they make the playoffs, then this whole playoff thing is a total sham and apparently conference titles mean nothing.
  22. Yep this thread is the kind a total meatball fan makes, not one with any sort of source or inside knowledge.
  23. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 03:45 PM) I think you've been a Sox fan for too long looking at this from the "cheap seats". This is a big boy in the big city for big bucks. The Mets have made the playoffs both years Cespedes has been there. Cespedes is a celebrity, a presence and he has done quite well with the Mets . How well it plays out is any ones guess but you know Mets fans are dancing in the streets now. Has nothing to do with being a Sox fan. They are paying Cespedes like he is one of the best in the game when he is not even close to being one of the best in the game. Not to mention the fact that he has been wildly inconsistent year to year. He will be the 3rd highest paid position player this coming year despite coming in 61st in fWAR among position players last year. Paying Yoenis Cespedes $27.5M as a 35 year old is something I would want no part of no matter whom I am a fan of.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Why would I be trolling? The KBO, while more hitter friendly than MLB, isn't t-ball. He put up MVP numbers there. Comparing him from 5 years ago to now is ridiculous. A 25 year old with no experience and a 30 year old with plenty of experience are completely different entities. He is worth the $5 million a year gamble and it wouldn't surprise me if he put up really good numbers in Milwaukee. He was the perfect fit for the Sox and they passed on him. If he were 27, 28, 29 years old putting up those numbers in A+ or AA ball would you be so willing to guarantee him $15M? Because that is what he essentially did. There are many fringe AAAA/MLB players that go over to Japan and Korea and dominate and why so many Asian players come over here and fail. The top talent is similar in ability, the bottom talent is many levels lower than MLB.
  25. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) While Nighthawks is a cooler name, I am RELIEVED that there isn't another "Hawks" out there. I already get confused when I see the Atlanta basketball team referenced in pop culture. I live near the Iowa/Wisconsin border and work in Iowa. The vast majority of the time when I hear "Hawks" people are referring to the Hawkeyes. Annoying as s***.
