  1. That was f***ing awful. Clearly offsides. What the f***?
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 7, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) Not expecting much from him at all. 5-11, 4.82 ERA, 143 K's, 1.47 WHIP, 6.2 K/9, and -0.2 WAR in 26 starts 143 K's at a 6.2 K/9 rate would mean he pitched 207+ innings. 207 innings of a 4.82 ERA would not give him a negative WAR and if he just made 26 starts it would mean he averaged 8 innings per start.
  3. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 6, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) When I used to do squares and strip cards, instead of 4th quarter, we said Final score to avoid stuff like this. Same. Every one ive ever done is 1,2,3, final.
  4. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Sox are on WGN and CSN. With rare espn/fox/tbs appearances sprinkled in. They are also on WPWR (at least were last year). I can't get WGN 180 miles outside Chicago. WGN America does not broadcast sports anymore. Any game not on CSN I can not legally get in any way shape or form. Can't get on cable/sat, too far from any affiliate to get OTA. I would gladly pay to get the games but MLB won't let me. I guess more illegal streams it is.
  5. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) the sox don't have games on WCIU. Well whatever channel they are on that replaced WCIU and WGN. You know what I f***ing mean. I can't get local Chicago channels 180 miles away.
  6. Butch Trucks, drummer for the Allman Brothers Band, 69, suicide.
  7. QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) . As far as I know, CSN Chicago is available in your area on both Direct TV or Dish Network, but not on your local cable company. Therefore, when you pay for the package (on one of the 2 dish services) that includes CSN Chicago, you should be able to get the streaming. Problem is my cable provuder is also my internet provider and they require a tv package to get their fiber optic internet so if I get Directv or Dish I'm paying for tv twice. Even then that doesn't solve my WCIU problem. I can't get those games in any way, shape or form. Tried OTA and I'm just too far away to get a signal.
  8. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Who has a betters show, Konerko or Buehrle? Buehrle far and away I think. I don't think he'll get in but he does have an argument. Bill James has said that 60 WAR is kind of the threshold to reach to have a legit shot. Buehrle is sitting at 51.9 fWAR. The 214 wins is a little low for most voters (I understand wins are a pretty garbage stat for pitchers but voters still look at it) and the ERA is a little high. He does have a 117 ERA+ though that does compare favorably to many Hall of Famers and bests quite a few. He also has a few of the key moment type things voters take note of like the perfect game and no hitter, the only guy to face the minimum 27 batters 3 times, once held the batters retired streak record, the remarkable durability and the streak of 10 win, 200 IP seasons. If I were a voter for homerism might cause me to vote for Buehrle. Looking at completely objectively he falls a bit short. Had he not retired early he could have made a run at 300 wins and would have a much better case but alas that did not happen.
  9. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) Konerko had a much better career than Ron Santo. The problem is that Konerko will not have the PR that Santo did. The Cubs organization and Cubs tv+radio stations promoted Santo for the HOF for years. Konerko will never have that same type of thing going for him. The only thing that made me happy about Santo getting into the HOF is that he didn't live to see it. That's some pretty blind homerism there. Konerko didn't have anywhere near the career Santo did. Not only did Santo have a better bat (as compared to the era) but he provided positive value with his glove and didn't hurt you with his legs. Konerko only provided a bat and that bat was barely above average for his position. This glaring difference is show by their respective WARs. Konerko had just a 23.2 fWAR for his career with a 162 game average of 1.6 and just 3 seasons above 3 fWAR. Santo had a whopping 70.9 fWAR for his career with a 162 average of 5.1 and 8 seasons above 5 fWAR. The only thing Konerko really has on Santo is the homers but when compared to the eras they played in he really doesn't have that either. Konerko finished top ten in HRs 6 times, Santo did it 7.
  10. Konerko is a Sox legend but he really isn't all that close to being a Hall of Famer. For his career he had a 118 wRC+. Respectable but not Hall of Fame when you have zero contribution with your glove or your legs. Even during his prime he was roughly 130 wRC+ bat on average. Again good but not great when compared to other first basemen. He did have a fairly long, fairly healthy career that allowed him to attain some pretty impressive counting stats, but again even the counting stats don't stand out among Hall of Famers. If you're a believer in WAR, Konerko has just 23.2 fWAR for his career and only had 3 seasons above 3 fWAR. His fWAR is good for just 743rd all time. I think the ballot congestion is starting to clear out a bit so by the time Konerko does get on the ballot people may be more apt to vote for him because of his reputation and because they haven't filled up their max 10 spots. I think he will probably stay on the ballot at least a couple years but I really can't see him even topping the 20% mark. Sox legend, not a MLB legend.
  11. So if I'm reading this correctly I would still need to have CSN Chicago to be able to stream right? MLB just doesn't get it. I'm willing to pay for the f***ing MLB.tv just let me watch the f***ing games. They leave me no option but to illegally stream it. They're taking money out of their own pockets.
  12. May 2, 1987 Tim Raines had one of the greatest individual performances in the history of baseball. He did not get signed until May 1 because of the owner's collusion. Despite not participating in Spring Training he hit the first pitch he saw off the wall for a triple. He proceeded to hit 2 more singles, steal a base, walk once, score 3 runs and then in the top of the 10th in a 6-6 tie he hit a game winning grand slam. That is an amazing game for anybody at anytime but when you factor in that it was his first game played after sitting out spring training and the 1st month of the season it is almost unbelievable. Truly an amazing player and it's a damn shame it's taken so long for him to get his due. Here's the slam If you're bored here's the whole game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp-k-7XL7vw
  13. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Which kind of begs the question: Are the Packers as an organization holding Aaron Rodgers back? It seems like every year they are a flawed team. Is a change needed at GM? Sounds like that change is coming. Word is that Thompson is going to move into a senior scouting role so they can promote Eliot Wolf before he goes elsewhere.
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 1, 2017 -> 10:36 PM) Rodgers is the best QB ever Definitely in the conversation. Really hard to compare QBs from different eras though. I think he's deserving of another MVP after these past 6 weeks but doubt he'll win it.
  15. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 29, 2016 -> 01:27 AM) Joe West is singing country songs while wearing a yellow polo shirt tucked into a pair of pleated khaki pants. Not sure whether to laugh or cry. You're just jealous that you can't pull that look off.
  16. Things are looking good for Rock Raines. With 118 ballots made public he is sitting at 91.5% and needing just 69.1% of the remaining vote. Needed to gain 20 votes from people who didn't vote for him last year and has already gained 19. Appears to be a lock at this point. https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=F...AE2Lu5P1f92OW8o
  17. QUOTE (brett05 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 06:55 AM) Being one of the few conservatives that post here, my order. Reagan Bush 43 Bush 41 Carter Obama Clinton You have to be trolling at this point right? Democrat or Republican there is no way anybody could honestly rank G.W. Bush and Carter over Obama and Clinton.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 01:04 AM) Is there any way Trump can be as good as Reagan? I mean I'm sure some people thought it weird an actor was president. I would suspect Trump will be horrible but could he be a Reagan? Reagan was a horrible president.
  19. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:48 AM) Because one bad year vs 6 bad years using one stat is a wonderful argument. 2015 fWAR: Samardzija: 2.6 Danks: 1.7 Danks career fWAR year by year: 2011: 3.0 2012: 0.3 2013: 0.2 2014: 0.5 2015: 1.7 2016: -0.1 No points for greg. It's an all-around s***y argument. Not that I'm saying Danks was good post injury, but on what planet is a 3 fWAR or even a 1.7 fWAR season bad?
  20. Service time is service time. It doesn't matter if it's a September call up or not. A player hits free agency after 6 full seasons of service time. 1 full season is considered 172 days of service time. The season is roughly 183 days but a player is only allowed to accrue 172 service days per season. Moncada, Lopez and Giolito clocks have all essentially started but you don't accrue service time if you are in the minors. Current service time- Moncada - 31 days Giolito - 39 days Lopez - 44 days Baseball reference lists all 3 as being free agency eligible after 2022 but that is going on the assumption that since they have already been in the Majors that they will be in the Majors at the start of the year. For the Sox to change that free agency date until after the 2023 season they would need to wait until it was late enough in the year that none of them have accrued a total of 172 service days before the end of this season. Date on which they can be called up to give the Sox a "7th year" and move the free agency date until after 2023- Moncada - May 14 Giolito - May 22 Lopez - May 27 I think all 3 will be called up shortly after those dates hit so long as they are playing well and the Sox feel they are ready. No point in letting them stay down in the minors dominating when they could get valuable Major League experience.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) I don't care. Obviously the Sox can afford it. I'm just saying that's a lot of money for a pitcher like him. That's all. $8 million is the going rate for essentially a 1 WAR player. If Holland can give the Sox 150 innings of a 4.50 FIP he will easily be worth the money.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) But it is common practice for teams to negotiate extensions with players very early in their careers. In fact I seem to recall a team (Houston maybe) negotiating a long term deal with a player who was still in the minors. As long as a team wasn't stupid enough to put something into writing, it would be pretty straight forward to defend as a common business practice. Astros with John Singleton. First extension ever given to a player with no Major League experience.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) No idea how much time he actually spent on the roster, so the exact number could vary. If he ends with 170 days, that is less than a year, so the team maintains his rights for another full season. Current service time per Baseball Reference Moncada - 31 days Giolito - 39 days Lopez - 44 days If my math skills and calendar reading skills are correct they can be called up on the following dates without reaching 172 days Moncada - May 15 Giolito - May 23 Lopez - May 28 Looks like a 3 way tie for the AL ROY to me.
  24. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Who is beating out Giolito and Lopez for the #4 and #5 SP spots? Shields and Fulmer? Also, didn't Boston already start Moncada's clock last season? If so, what's the gain to starting him in the minors? You don't accrue service time in the minors. He needs to have 172 days service time to consider it a full year. A player needs to have 6 full years in before he can become a free agent. He currently has 31 days service time. If they hold him down roughly 6 weeks or so he will be unable to accrue 172 days total by the end of the year. That will give the Sox a 7th year with him.
  25. QUOTE (peppers312 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) pretty sure those are the first two stats i'm looking at if i need a closer bruh. And that right there is one of the many reasons why you could never be a GM.
