I just looked up Nick Markakis's stat for the 1st time in forever and to my surprise he's a guy that has a fairly respectable shot at 3000 hits. Just turned 35 and is at 2237. If he can remain an everyday player another 3 or 4 years more he might come close.

But that's not true either. He played 81 games with the Sox that year. The first 40 he had a .182/.301/.343 slash with 5 HR and 19 RBI. The last 41 he had a .231/.355/.517 with 11 HR and and 25 RBI

Huh? He was basically a 3 fWAR player with the Sox and hit 40 homers his first year. Not that 3 fWAR is amazing but it's above average. And he had a 114 wRC+ with the Yankees versus a 105 with the Sox that year. Not that much different and definitely not "tearing it up" with the Yankees.

Keppinger for me. He came off of such a good year with the Rays and I thought it was a good, fairly cheap signing at the time. He then proceeded to be one of the worst players in the league the next year. Nothing against him personally, it just didn't work out.

Overall I think Hriniak helped get the max out of Frank's ability. The only way he may have hurt him is that once Frank bought into the front foot, Charlie Lau style hitting it was hard for him to work with other coaches after Hriniak left.
