Ferguson Riots
The person who made sure charges didn't happen was Michael Brown.

The ESPN announcer just used "Mike Brey" and "postseason success" in the same sentence. I damn near choked on my drink.

Yeah, I'd rather pay 4/58 for Melky than 4/44 for Markakis.

Yeah, I wanted Saunders but that's a lot more value than I thought Seattle was going to get for him.

Ferguson Riots
It doesn't really matter how the British saw it, it's how the citizens saw it. If the Tea protestors burned down my neighbor's store, when my neighbor has nothing to do with the protest, than that makes me much less sympathetic to their cause. But what the people in Ferguson did was took their anger out on the weak, small business owners who couldn't defend themselves. They didn't have the balls to go after the people they're really upset at.

Ferguson Riots
This is a much better case to bring charges against the officer than in Ferguson.

Would the Big 12 invite BYU as a football-only member? That might work out well for both parties. All the other sports don't really need more members and don't need long trips to Provo.

Ferguson Riots
The British business was clearly on the government's side in the conflict. An analogous reaction in Ferguson would have been to go after government buildings, or property belonging to people who openly expressed support for the officer.

Ferguson Riots
Except that the cargo of tea belonged to a British company that was directly profiting from the unfair actions of the government. The property destroyed in Ferguson belonged to private citizens who had nothing to do with the "unfair" actions of the government.

Also remember that if you invite BYU to join for all sports, you are committing to having schedules in every sport that do not have games against BYU, or potential games against BYU (conference tournaments) on Sundays.

Merkin has extra time to write this winter, since he doesn't have a bowl game to go to.

Utah not leaving the PAC 12 for the Big 12. BYU has stated a desire to be independent for football, though perhaps a Big 12 invite could change their minds.

The SEC will use every single ounce of influence they have to avoid having this happen. What's really funny is that, periodically, SEC fans complain that ND's schedule is weak because they don't play any SEC teams, when the reality is that ND has been trying to schedule SEC teams for years but none of the good ones will agree to go to South Bend. Georgia finally did for 2017/19, but even then the condition was that the game in South Bend had to be in September.
