  1. I agree with everybody that Volquez seems like a bad fit for lots of reasons, however, if we assume that the pursuit of Volquez has Coop's approval, then I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.
  2. Noesi doesn't have options though, so he can't really be depth. He's either in the rotation or he's not on the roster, unless you want to stash him in long relief.
  3. I was hoping the Giants got Lester, mainly from the standpoint that the Giants sounded like they wouldn't pursue Scherzer if they missed on Lester but the Cubs would. I guess there's still hope that the Red Sox get Scherzer.
  4. Unless the money is substantially less for Volquez, I'd much rather have McCarthy.
  5. I don't doubt that Ackley would be maximizing the return from Viciedo. I am stating that I don't think any return that the Sox might get for Viciedo should be viewed as a starting position player for 2015. I think the Sox need to find a better LF than one that can be gotten for Viciedo. I'd rather go for one or two minor league arms that are most likely to never pan out but have at least a small potential to turn into a good reliever or 4/5 starter.
  6. The BIG is a conference that is short on elite teams but also short on terrible teams. You line the BIG up 1-14 against most conferences and you are going to lose a lot of matchups at the top but win a lot of them in the middle/bottom.
  7. If Ackley is the best major league player Seattle is willing to give up, I'd rather take a mid-level pitching prospect plus a lottery ticket arm, which provides some depth when the Sox make another trade for a starting LF that is actually good.
  8. Does anybody really need him?
  9. Sox may have to unload Danks and Viciedo before they can take on any more payroll.
  10. He's going to be 30 when the season starts. I'm not certain that I want to give him a 6 year deal.
  11. Need somebody better than him for LF, for sure.
  12. Some of the smaller conferences also finish up that early. Perhaps each team could schedule a non-conference game.
  13. Yeah, I really think the next position player the Sox acquire will be a corner OF.
  14. If his OBP is .632, I'm totally OK with it declining a bit.
  15. That's multi years more than I would offer him.
  16. Zamarja would not be the correct spelling of the newest Sox starter.
  17. Sanchez (if he's not the starting 2B) or Saladino.
  18. The Dodgers wouldn't eat enough money to make the move entirely payroll neutral, but they would have to eat some. Danks is owed $28.5M Crawford is owed $62.2M The difference is $33.7. Somewhere around half that amount may be the right figure.
  19. LAD would have to eat a substantial amount of money but this is a move that could benefit both teams.
  20. Lots of days off, skip him a couple times.
  21. Well, depending on who that other free agent is, that team could get the #2 and the Yankees bumped down to #3.
  22. The Sox are clearly going for it in 2015. If Rodon is one of the five best starters at the end of Spring Training, he needs to be in the rotation. If not, then he needs to start at Charlotte and be on the same schedule at the Sox' #5 starter, so he can be brought up whenever he surpasses the #5.
