  1. My theory has always been multiply 5 minutes by the number of scores that you are behind before scoring and that's the cutoff for going for 2. So if you are down 15 and score a TD with less than 10 minutes left, then go for 2.
  2. This is hardly scientific, but there is a group that is tracking pre-dawn assaults on children in Indiana as evidence of the need to switch to Central time: http://www.hoosiersforcentraltime.com/incidents.html
  3. http://www.wlky.com/news/local-news/indian...lf/-/index.html About 6 miles from my house, a high school girl was sexually assaulted Tuesday morning while walking to the school bus. It happened at 7:00 am, and sunrise was at 7:21 am. Assaults and robberies of kids waiting for or walking to school buses seems to be happening more frequently in areas where it is dark in the morning. This particular location is at 85.7W longitude, but is in the Eastern Time Zone, while the natural boundary between Eastern and Central sits at 82.5W, which is just east of Columbus, OH. If we were on our natural time zone (Central), sunrise would have been at 6:21 instead of 7:21, this girl would have been walking to the bus stop in the light, and there is at least a chance that this wouldn't have happened. I know most of you live in Illinois and NW Indiana, which are on Central time, so you may not notice this problem. The natural boundary between Central and Mountain is 97.5W, which is roughly Wichita KS, Oklahoma City, and Fort Worth, so anybody in western TX, KS or ND might experience the same issue. Is there anybody else who lives near the western edge of a time zone? I think as adults we have decided that we like having more light in the evening to golf and do other stuff outside, but we've neglected to think about the ramifications on child safety. DST makes this even worse by moving the clocks forward another hour. Sunrise here on November 1 wasn't until 8:15 a.m.
  4. You can always catch 2:15:16 this afternoon.
  5. Yeah, when listing the losses 3-6 Oakland should have been 4-6 St. Louis. Read the schedule wrong. Colts did beat Oakland.
  6. Auburn (and maybe even Missouri) have a better chance at beating Alabama than FSU losing any of their remaining games.
  7. I have an uncle that has lived in suburban Atlanta for 20 years, and I've been down there several times. The Braves have always been the team of 'The South' and not the team of Atlanta. You could make a case that the Braves are the most popular team in 10 states. Their #1 revenue stream has always been TV and not attendance. Also, traffic in Atlanta is terrible and so is public transit. Yes, the Braves will lose some attendance from the city, but they will gain more from Cobb. It sucks for the residents of the county that they didn't get a say in this, but it's definitely a good deal for the Braves.
  8. Chiefs go from 2-14 to 8-0. Two 0-8 teams get their first win on the same weekend. Colts beat 9-1 Seattle, 8-1 Denver and 6-3 San Francisco but lose to 4-5 Miami, 4-5 San Diego, and 3-6 Oakland. This season NFL has been WTF.
  9. The bolded part is the biggest reason why I will support Chris Christie in 2016 (unless Mitch Daniels does a 180 and decides to run). He's proven to be a competent executive who gets s*** done.
  10. Probably wouldn't be much different than the rest of Bama's games.
  11. Yeah, the Tuitt call was terrible, but that didn't cause Rees to throw all those picks. Just hope Golson will still be as good as he was when he's back next year.
  12. Ohio State might be the best team in the nation, but the BIG is still terrible. Unfortunately, if we end up with more than two unbeaten teams (though that never does seem to happen), schedule strength is the only real way to settle things, and OSU is going to come up short.
  13. There are plenty of great places to eat in DC that aren't that expensive. Getting a decent hotel for less than $200/night is a different story.
  14. I definitely don't get the attitude of not supporting that improves things because it doesn't include everything you want. The EC was a hotly debated topic. There wasn't a consensus, plus, in our hypothetical world, there is no chance of getting 3/4 of the states to approve it because all the small states would be against it. From my standpoint, it doesn't matter a lot one way or the other. Indiana has 2.10% of the population and 2.04% of the electoral votes, so it is one of the states that is neither over nor under represented by the EC.
  15. Our group was definitely not against this, but we really didn't even know where to begin to write something that a) would actually accomplish this and b) would have any chance of being enforced. What we feel like we did is reduced the influence of money be reducing the frequency of elections, and reform the redistricting, and primary process to try to reduce some of the advantage of extremist candidates, who tend to benefit most from the money.
  16. BIG OOC losses: MSU lost to ND Nebraska lost to UCLA Wisconsin lost to ASU (yes, I know that was a screw job) Iowa lost to NIU BIG OOC wins: Michigan beat ND I don't even know what qualifies as the second best win.
  17. As far as I'm concerned, any team that wears white jerseys and yellow pants deserves to lose.
  18. Flowers is also a Super 2 with a very poor track record, so he isn't going to get much and there's little risk in tendering him if there's no replacement in place by 12/2.
  19. Players who have enough service time to qualify for arbitration (a little over 2 1/2 years) but not enough to qualify for free agency (6 years) have a deadline (December 2) by which a team must decide whether or not to tender (offer) them a contract for the following season. If they tender them, then they are bound to pay them either an amount the two sides can agree upon, or an amount determined by an arbitrator. Sox players in this category are Beckham, Viciedo, DeAza, and Flowers. Viciedo and DeAza are almost certain to be kept. The only way Beckham and Flowers aren't kept is if replacements for them are acquired before the December 2 deadline.
