  1. That sentence sums up in a nutshell why Notre Dame will get some kind of blatantly unfair financial and TV deal to join either the Big 12 or ACC, because that is what would guarantee those conferences of being the 4th "Big time" conference after the SEC/PAC12/BIG10.
  2. That doesn't happen until 2015, when they beat Miami. Of course, at the time the movie was made, there wasn't a team in Miami. Then they put a team in Miami, and I got a little bit nervous. But they called the team Florida and not Miami, so I felt better. Now they changed their name to Miami, so I've gotten a little more nervous. But they still play in the same league as the Cubs so they can't meet in the World Series. Now if before 2015 MLB realigns and it becomes possible for the Cubs and Miami to meet in the World Series, I'm building a bunker.
  3. Pitchers already on 40 who could be called up: Carter Castro Heath Hernandez Infante Leesman Marinez Molina Veal
  4. No score through 56' in the battle to be the Iberian representative in the Final.
  5. Yankees get a 2-run double from Chavez to take a 2-1 lead in the 4th.
  6. Vote totals may improve, but ultimately none of the Sox players will win the fan vote. Paulie, AJ, Sale, and maybe Peavy will get selected via the players/manager
  7. Either the team directly behind the Sox loses a game in the standings or the Sox' next opponent loses some momentum. Either way, it's a good result. A 17-inning game that depletes both bullpens would be ideal.
  8. If he was released, he should have been paid the remainder of his 2012 salary on the spot. His salary from that date on is $0.
  9. I agree, but there seems to be nothing forcing the selection committee to actually take the top 4. I'm looking at the final 2010 BCS standings and envisioning #5 Wisconsin, #6 Ohio State, or #7 Oklahoma getting selected over #3 TCU due to TV ratings.
  10. So his annual salary of $0 prorated over 50 days works out to something around $0, if I did the math correctly.
  11. Already mentioned in today's game thread, but I guess it also belongs here. http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/...l-muscle-strain
  12. I don't mind having a committee, but I'd impose some restrictions on them. Keep the BCS rankings, or some modification of them. 1) If there are more than three conference champions (CC) ranked in the top six, then the committee must select at least three of those CC. Furthermore, if there are more than three CC ranked in the top six and less than three of those CC are undefeated, all undefeated CC must be selected. If there are more than three CC ranked in the top six and more than two of those CC are undefeated, at least two of the undefeated CC must be selected. If there are less than four CC ranked in the top six, then all CC must be selected. 2) If Notre Dame ranked in the top two, or undefeated and ranked in the top six, they must be selected. 3) The selection committee may fill any remaining slots from any team ranked in the top six, with the exception that no conference may have more than two selections.
  13. Thankfully, we are supposed to have extremely low humidity with this heat, so it will be a lot like AZ. Of course, this extremely high heat and low humidity coincides with the peak week for firework usage, so I'm expecting some kind of major fire in the area.
  14. When the hell did Southern Indiana become Arizona? Expected highs tomorrow-Tuesday: 103, 100, 98, 98, 98, 97
  15. Enough lefties in that lineup? They could squeeze one more in if they moved Dunn to 1B and let Sale bat.
  16. Not until Danks, or at least Humber, is back. I don't think there's anybody to take his place right now.
  17. 2012 Sox winning percentage . . . when Sale starts: .643 in day games: .621 on the road: .588 vs. RHP: .585 vs. AL Central: .571 In theory, there is no game the Sox are more likely to win than Sale starting on the road during the day against an AL Central opponent with a righty starter.
  18. I always think that helps the Sox, since most of their hitters swing at everything anyway. Especially love to see a huge strike zone against the Red Sox and Yankees, since their hitters all seem to want to see 6+ pitches every time up to the plate.
  19. Ah yes, my number one rule of pitching: DONT' f***ING WALK PEOPLE!
  20. I don't think money is the issue. I think the issues are (1) think they're too good to be seen in a common taxi cab and (2) don't trust leaving their super-expensive car at some bar overnight. When I lived in Chicago I had a friend who was an attorney making nice coin (but nowhere near NFL money). He had a really nice Lexus, and he refused to leave it overnight or let anybody else drive it no matter how much he'd been drinking. I had to threaten to call the cops on him two different times in order to convince him not to drive.
  21. Perhaps you could find a statistics professor at KU to explain to you why a sample size of 504 games over the past two years is more significant than a sample size of 12 games.
  22. I'm much more into the team sports than individual sports. I'll be watching mostly basketball and soccer, with a little gymnastics, water polo, and volleyball mixed in. During Winter Olympics, 90% of what I watch is hockey and curling.
  23. Sale Starts 14-4 Peavy Starts 14-4 Quintana Starts 14-4 Floyd Starts 6-12 Axelrod/Danks/Humber Starts 2-16
