  1. By my count, there are still 17 teams that can potentially make the playoff: any ACC, BIG, SEC or PAC-12 team that has 2 or fewer losses and can still potentially win their conference's championship game; any Big 12 team with 1 or fewer losses; Notre Dame and Houston. Yes, some of these are really longshots but there are scenarios that work out for all of them. One of the 17 gets eliminated for sure when TCU plays Oklahoma Saturday as that is the second loss for one of them. An Iowa win against Purdue or a Wisconsin loss to Northwestern eliminates Wisconsin and that is a pretty good bet. An Ohio State win against Michigan State eliminates MSU. An Oklahoma State win against Baylor eliminates Baylor. Other teams facing survival tests: Utah hosts UCLA Michigan visits Penn State Stanford hosts Cal North Carolina visits Virginia Tech Clemson, Alabama, Florida, Notre Dame and Houston will all be huge favorites.
  2. OK, so this one was the longest November 15 TD in franchise history. Announcers just forgot to specify the date.
  3. Republican primary voters are a lot that are sold hook line and sinker on everything the Koch brothers have been feeding them. They are after the farthest-right most Obama-hating person they can find. Kasich just doesn't appeal to those people. Very sad for me, because he's the only person in either party I can see myself voting for. Looks like a third straight election where I'll be one of the 2% voting for the Libertarian candidate.
  4. Yes it was. That is my earliest memory of a Bears game.
  5. Terrorists had AK-47s and dressed in all black. Very easy to differentiate between them and the people with the .45s. Also, most gun owners are responsible enough not to shoot across a crowded theater. The ones at close range will take care of it.
  6. Winning a conference matters, plus Oklahoma would have wins over ranked Baylor TCU and Ok St teams. I'm biased so clearly I think ND deserves it, but I'm not convinced the committee will agree. Still, if Brian Kelly isn't a f***ing moron, ND at least goes to OT with Clemson and maybe wins and then there's no question.
  7. Navy has some bad teams in their conference, but Navy would have wins over Memphis, Houston and Temple along with their loss to ND so that would make them a top fifteen team. The conference does also have wins over Mississippi and Penn State.
  8. Yes, though I'm less confident in that than I was before Stanford choked last night. I still think ND's defense has no chance at stopping Stanford's offense, but ND might be able to outscore them. Kizer is a much better QB now than he was earlier in the season and Stanford's defense isn't as good as I thought. If ND and Oklahoma do both win out and none of the top three lose, that will set up the epic argument over which team gets that fourth spot. Oddly enough, it might hinge on whether or not Navy can win the AAC. Aside from winning out, I still think ND needs at least one of the following three to happen: -No undefeated team in BIG (Go Michigan???? Can I actually be saying that???) -Second loss by Alabama -Second loss by Oklahoma AND a loss by Oklahoma State
  9. I'm not worried about something on this scale happening in the US. In a similar concert venue in the US, those terrorists kill at most ten people before concert-goers who are carrying take them out. In Europe, citizens aren't carrying so there's nobody to stop them from shooting the body count up to a hundred.
  10. Updated Playoff/Bowl Projections: Orange: Clemson vs Oklahoma Cotton: Alabama vs Ohio State Rose: Iowa vs Stanford Sugar: Florida vs Oklahoma State Fiesta: Notre Dame vs Baylor Peach: LSU vs Navy
  11. No, no chance of getting into the playoff, but how do you justify putting a one loss Big Twelve team in the playoff over ND if the AAC has better OOC wins than the Big Twelve and ND has wins over potentially both teams playing in the AAC championship game? The AAC helps ND's case against the Big Twelve if that's what it comes down to, though Temple losing yesterday hurts a bit.
  12. Really quick: Tell me the AAC's three best OOC wins and the Big Twelve's three best OOC wins.
  13. If Baylor or Ok St win out, they will undoubtedly jump ND. If Oklahoma wins out they might jump ND. It is pretty clear from the latest rankings though that a one loss ND would stay ahead of a one loss LSU or TCU, so aside from beating Stanford, which is a very tall task, all ND needs to stay in the top four is for at least one loss each from Baylor, Ok St and Oklahoma, or a second loss from Alabama, or a loss by both OSU and Iowa. I think it's pretty likely that at least one of those three things happens.
  14. I think they said prices will go up 12-14%. If you usually tip more than that, your overall price will go down.
  15. Well then the risk of any tackling is pretty low.
  16. How is Nieto a free agent? He's on the 40 and has options left.
  17. Assuming that wins over Wake and BC are solid and not fluky and the loss to Stanford is not a huge blowout, yes I think two losses, both being to top 4 teams, keeps ND in a top tier bowl. Though keep in mind that this goes purely on committee rankings. ND has to be the highest ranked available team once conference ties are filled in order to get a slot. The bowls aren't allowed to pass over a higher ranked team to pick ND based on name, and the Rose/Sugar bowls are contracted to take teams from their conferences even if their champions get in the playoff.
  18. Playoff/Bowl Projections: Orange: Clemson vs Ohio State Cotton: Alabama vs Stanford Rose: Michigan State vs Utah Sugar: Oklahoma vs LSU Fiesta: Iowa vs Notre Dame Peach: Oklahoma St vs Houston
  19. My wife is an RT at a Level I Trauma Center and she has said that when people under 40 have some catastrophic medical issue such as this, 95% of the time it is drug/alcohol related. There are some rare freak genetic issues that do account for the other 5%.
  20. If a manager is fired mid-season, then yeah, a coach gets the job on an interim basis, but probably not permanently. If the manager is bad enough to fire mid-season, then you probably are pretty dissatisfied with the coaching staff as a whole and not just the manager. Besides, the Sox aren't the kind of organization that is going to fire a manager mid-season unless it's some kind of conduct issue.
