The math in that article makes my head hurt. Historically, teams are 45% on 2-point conversions but let's use the incredibly small sample size of 15 attempts this season to justify why it makes sense. Also, no mention of the fact that as teams start to go for two more, there is more film on what plays they use in those situations, and I believe the percentage would start to go down. Unless your kicker really sucks, kicking is still the right move unless it's the 4th quarter and the score differential justifies it. I do agree that teams punt too much though. You should never punt inside the opponent's 40 and very rarely punt inside the 50.

Maybe someone can find a counterexample, but if a manager gets fired, it's pretty rare for a member of his coaching staff to get the promotion. If the manager resigns/retires, maybe, but not fired.

When I lived in Oak Park, I spent a lot of time in Wicker Park/Bucktown, so the movie has always appealed to me because that's where the record store was.

High Fidelity is set in Chicago and at one point they play "We are the Champions." Clearly not talking about the Cubs, so it must be a Sox reference.

OK, so some idiots shout racial slurs at a black guy, who tweets about it, and then there are protests because the University Chancellor took six days to condemn it and his actions weren't strong enough? I also notice they were comparing this to the situation at Oklahoma, where stronger action was taken, but at Oklahoma these were identifiable students who were part of an identifiable group. In this case, it was "white guys in a pick up truck" who shouted the racial slurs. Was the Chancellor supposed to kick every white guy with a pickup truck out of school? There is either a lot more to this story or this was a massive overreaction. While I understand the incredible frustration at the bigotry that was displayed, I don't see what more the Chancellor could have done. -

OK, that's different from what ESPN was saying Sunday morning. They were saying that ALL bowl selections were going to be delayed a week. Navy certainly isn't finishing in the Top 4, so yeah, it makes sense to go ahead and get at least the playoff teams announced. -
I know the Sox need infielders who can hit, but I don't see the Sox signing three of them. One, yes. Two, maybe.

You mean when they're wearing the Sox hats that didn't exist at the time?

Oklahoma has the best chance of any Big 12 team to make the playoff with 1 loss since they have the best nonconference win. Tennessee isn't great, but they look like an NFL team compared to what the other teams play out of conference. ND and Stanford play each other, so there's no way that both of them can end with only 1 loss. LSU could end up with 1 loss, though their chances of making it in with 1 loss would have been better if their loss had at least been close. Will be very interesting to see the committee rankings this week. Clearly Clemson, Bama and OSU are 1-3 in some order, but that 4th spot is wide open. ND was 5th and won, but Baylor and OK St are both still undefeated. Any of those 3 teams could be #4. -

Yeah, this is it. The rule is very poorly written. Over the years, rules have been changed to make them more black and white and less about judgment, and I suspect this one may be next. Unless it happens within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, the defensive player forcing the receiver out of bounds is always some sort of penalty (PI, holding or illegal contact). Just change the rule to read that a player who went out of bounds is never eligible to be the first one to touch a pass and put the responsibility on the official to throw the flag rather than make a judgment about being forced out. It was a marginal call by the ref to call that a forceout when the contact was very weak, but not a terrible call. You can probably question how long the receiver took to get back in bounds, but that still is marginal at worst. Once that call is made, the only thing that's reviewable is whether or not there was contact, which there was. And all this is coming from someone whose favorite BIG team is MSU, so I'm not being biased. It would only be about the 20th worst call of the year in the ACC. -

If Navy wins the American, the bowl selections have to get pushed back a week to wait on the Army-Navy result. -

For home games, yes, they never kickoff before 3:30, but away games are controlled by other networks. -

Weird fact: Tomorrow is ND's first pre-3:30 ET kickoff since 9/28/2011, which was also at Pitt. -

Rios wasn't nearly as bad as Dunn or LaRoche over his Sox tenure. He had one terrible season, but also had one really damn good one. -

That brings up a serious question: could you tell an overpaid, underperforming player that you are going to make him catch if he doesn't retire and save you the money and roster spot. Would that work? -

I'm fine either way. Good thing is he only has 5 days to decide so the Sox know very shortly whether or not they have a hole in the rotation to fill. -

This. If the Buffalo DA wants to go after this woman criminally for the false accusation, then that's up to him and not Kane. If Kane wants to go after her in a civil suit, that would be dumb because he opens himself up to all sorts of risk and the woman probably doesn't have any money anyway.

Free legal lesson for the day: Indiana Code Title 32 Article 21 Chapter 13 Sections 4-5 Except as provided in section 5 of this chapter, a homeowners association may not adopt or enforce a rule that prohibits a member of the homeowners association from displaying a sign on the member's property during the period: (1) beginning thirty (30) days before; and (2) ending five (5) days after; the date of the election to which the sign relates. A homeowners association may adopt and enforce rules relating to a sign described in section 3 of this chapter if the rules do any of the following: Indiana Code 2015 (1) Restrict the size of a sign if the rule permits a homeowner to display a sign that is at least as large as signs commonly displayed during election campaigns. (2) Restrict the number of signs that may be displayed if the rule permits a homeowner to display a reasonable number of signs. (3) Restrict the locations where a sign may be displayed. However, a restriction under this subdivision may not prohibit the display of a sign: (A) in a window on the homeowner's property; or (B) on the ground that is part of the homeowner's property. I just got to call my HOA and tell them where they can stick their violation letter.

The committee knew damn well that if they put in a 1-loss Baylor who played SMU, Buffalo and an FCS team in non-conference over an Ohio State team whose only loss was to Virginia Tech, that teams would be scrambling to get the weakest non-conference schedules possible. I get that the Big 12 plays 9 conference games which includes everybody, but if Baylor had just played and beaten someone like Indiana or Vanderbilt instead of that FCS team, they'd have been in. -
