Bill Maher: God/Organized Religion, yes or no
cabiness42 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
My interpretation is that God does not approve of sex between people of the same sex, regardless of whether or not they are married. The sex act is the sin, not the marriage license. -
That guy got charged and is probably going to do a lot of time for what he did.
-
Yeah, but they didn't try to take a cop's gun and then charge straight at him either.

And That's a White Sox Winner !!

Well then move Saladino to SS and get somebody at 3B to hit. Either way, the lineup is just to weak having Saladino at 3B and Sanchez at 2B. Gotta get a real bat at one of those two spots. -

LaRoche is better vs RHP than Garcia. -

I'd rather see the Sox find someone else to play 2B who can hit a little and move Sanchez to SS where his bat is closer to average. -
I know several white Christian males who have been stopped by cops and exercised their rights and the cops got pretty hostile with them.

Doesn't that describe just about any 6 hour period in Chicago? -
Bill Maher: God/Organized Religion, yes or no
cabiness42 replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
I was raised in a Protestant church but attended a Catholic university. I took a couple pretty in depth theology courses as part of my requirements. Between the ages of 19 and 25, I spent a lot of time wavering between full belief in Christianity, agnosticism, and general belief in God without believing any any specific religion. I finally made my way back to Christianity, but with the caveat that I don't fully subscribe to any particular Catholic or Protestant organizations belief system. I see too many inconsistencies and hypocrisies in any given church to claim to be a part of that church. I believe that the accounts of the bible from the time of Moses through the time of Jesus are more or less accurate. I do believe that some of the more conservative and controversial rules for living set out in the bible (no sex outside of marriage, no divorce, no homosexuality) are the way God wants us to live, but I also believe that those things should only be preached to church members in closed settings. I don't believe Christians should be ranting about these things in public or that it is there place to attempt to exert political influence on these issues. I don't believe those are effective ways to reach people, which is what I believe that God ultimately wants us to do. -

This is from the FB page of a news anchor in Indy who is a friend of my wife's: This was before he shot himself, but it provides some insight on the motive. -
My parents got me a 16 year old Chevy Impala that they paid $500 for.

Tony Stewart purposefully ran someone over?
cabiness42 replied to Steve9347's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Almost half of the cars in this race crashed out. That's not the kind of rate that should be happening. This is IndyCar's dilemma: The high horsepower needed to make the road course races interesting also makes many of the oval course races dangerous. Most teams can't afford to have engines of differing horsepowers in order to optimize both types of races, so they've been running the ovals with engines that induce many more crashes than normal. -

Either of the two above suggestions would reduce the overall number of crashes, which greatly decreases the chance of what happened. -

As a result of the deaths/injuries, they are either going to have to 1) slow the cars down or 2) stop racing at certain tracks, in order to avoid the worst crashes. Doing either of those things will drive ratings down, when they're already pretty low. -
It's a goernment retirement account. There is a fixed rate fund, government securities fund, and a few stock funds and I can move any percentage of my account among the funds with no transfer fees.

First of all, there are only 38 guys on the 40 man roster right now, so there are already two open spots without getting rid of anybody. Jeff Samadzija, Gordon Bekcham, Geovany Soto and Matt Albers become free agents at the end of the season, so unless any of them get re-signed, that frees up four more spots. If the Sox decline Alexei's option, then that frees up one more spot. So you can have the 40 man roster down to 33 without having to DFA anybody, and all of this happens before the date when players have to get added to the 40 to be protected from the Rule 5 draft. If for some reason you still need space, Scott Carroll and Rob Brantly are probably the first two DFA candidates.

Bill Maher is the Westboro Baptist of atheism. -
I've done pretty well with it in the past. I always err on the side of caution, because even if I miss an upswing in the markets, I'm earning 3% a year, which is a lot better than losing 5-10% in a week.

Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason
cabiness42 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm not certain it's a 100% lock that MB gets a QO. I don't know what Toronto's situation is, but I know they got some money from Miami in that trade and they may not want to pay him $16M or whatever the QO is going to be. But yeah, if he does get the QO and the Sox don't have a protected pick, I don't sign him unless it's some kind of ridiculous hometown discount. -
Moved all of my retirement account out of the markets Friday.

If this were 23 years ago, the #2 and #4 records in baseball wouldn't be making the postseason at all, and if this were two years ago, the #4 team wouldn't be making it in. Let's not feel too sorry for them.

OK, there isn't a general auto racing thread and I didn't really want to start a whole new one, so I just put this here. Just under four years after Dan Wheldon lost his life on the track, IndyCar has another driver in a coma and in critical condition. Justin Wilson was hit in the head yesterday by debris from a wreck in front of him. It knocked him out cold which in turn sent his car head first into the wall. Obvious concern for Justin but also for the sport since a second on-track death in four years could really damage the sport. The connection to Tony Stewart: he loaned his plane/pilots free of charge to Justin's family memebers to fly from Indy to Pennsylvania, where Justin is hospitalized. -
John Danks (LHP) 6-10, 4.61 vs Taijuan Walker (RHP) 8-7, 4.60

The only infielder in the system with the chance at having a plus bat is Anderson. A lineup can deal with one guy like Sanchez who is excellent defensively and terrible offensively, but not two guys like that. One infielder is going to have to be acquired via trade or FA. It's increasingly likely that Alexei's option doesn't get picked up so that frees up some money. Even more if Shark isn't re-signed.

Carlos Rodon (LHP) 5-5, 4.42 vs Vidal Nuno (LHP) 0-2, 3.14 [if he doesn't look good, Seattle won't look good]
