Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) Why not? Assuming you believe the rumors that we are only going 3 years on Cespedes or Upton. Parra was below replacement player level last year and could get 3 years out of a team. Same could be said for Span although he was better last year. OFers getting these years doesnt help lower the actual good players cost. -

Yeah last year he wasnt very good. I dont care how much money he gets. I definitely dont want him in the OF. But if he does get 3 years. That's certainly not good news for us. -
Desmond now sucks defensively.....interesting. Guess it's easier to start narratives that arent actually true.
-
I mean if they dont like giving up more than 3 years. They are going to really hate having to give up more prospects(who knows maybe Anderson) for one in the middle of the season because Garcia cant catch. You find his replacement now or later. It's just going to cost more later.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Nah this is fun... All this speculation that has been beaten like a dead rotten horse and then laid out upon some warm stink bait that is attracting some catfish that are eating it... but then they die because it had poison in it...so now the dead catfish are smelling on top of the dead horse...and it all just sits there waiting to be s*** on by twitter. Fun stuff. That's quite a picture

Is anyone else getting tired of this s***?

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) Where does Desmond's suspected defense come from? His range? Desmond's errors have been steadily Ascending the last three years up to 27 in '15. Much rather see what Saladino has to offer and spend the money elsewhere. It's based on nothing. His offensive decline is more of an issue.
-
I would like Desmond on a short deal. His defense is actually still pretty useful at this stage in his career. But his asking price might still be a little high at this point.

Rangers are floating out there but they are essentially at the payroll limit it seems. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:36 PM) So the total value is $34 million or $31 million over 3 years (including buyout)??? Interesting that he never got to his workout date for MLB clubs, right? Or did he already hold it? I just read a report about an hour ago that said he didnt work out.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:49 PM) If healthy he should at least be solid in LF. The last time he played left field was 2009. He was fine there I guess. His defense everywhere else including CF has been suspect(to put it nicely).

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) I read this Passan tweet and thought, hum, the White Sox could use a player or two like that. Jeff PassanVerified account @JeffPassan 5h5 hours ago Denard Span is a classic Giants player: high character, extremely high contact, solid defensively, few weaknesses in all-around game. Solid defensively he is not...atleast not anymore
-
Boras somehow got Span 3 years
-
I say we see if Garcia can give up more than 11 runs next year. That should be an interesting experiment.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Hard to draw any conclusions when he was injured for six plus weeks on a counting stat... That's certainly true.
-
Some interesting things to point out just from a quick glance. Dexter Fowler was essentially responsible for 20 runs scored in 2014 and around 13 last year. As opposed to Jason Heyward who was +24(saved). Cespedes was also better than Alex Gordon in that department. Alex Gordon dropped off pretty significantly.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today. I'm doing some research on OFers today...primarily defense. One of my favorite stats is runs saved.

I actually like Austin Jackson a little more as a buy low guy right now. His defense was atleast passable.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) I'm using the term stop gap only in reference to the plan for the Sox. He is here for 2 years until Trey M. is ready. He will not be re-signed at the end of 2 years unless Trey has majors issues going forward. I wasn't using the term as an implication of his talent. I really like him as a player. There are so many "what ifs" that can be associated with that plan. But like you said I'll make sure to mark it down and revisit later.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Because RH found a cheap way to improve the position. If the Reds price was too high and would have impacted the future, they wouldn't have made the trade. You have to admit, everyone is touting the new All-star 3B but the sox paid very little for him. I'm not arguing the value of what they got in return for the prospects. I'm saying that labeling Frazier as a stop gap is actually pretty insulting to what he can actually do on the field.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) They did because he didn't cost much . That's why the trade took so long. Mark this for 2 years from now. Then why not just have Mike Olt sit out there until he's ready? That would of saved the team prospects.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) Indeed they have but if the Giants sign a player like Cespedes it puts them very close to the luxury tax threshold and really doesn't leave them much space at all for mid-season acquisitions. I seriously doubt they are players for either one of Cespedes/Upton. On the flip side you are assuming they are willing to add a huge contract like Cespedes, I am not.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:50 AM) Why? The Giants payroll is sitting at about 165M. I see nothing to be worried about. Imo, that's 165M reasons the Giants have been linked to Parra and Fowler. You are assuming they are close to their payroll limit and cant shell out another contract. I am not.
-
You just have to worry about the Giants lurking.
-
If NOT Cespedes or Upton, can we land 2 tier two guys?

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) One name that hasn't been talked about much is Denard Span. I know he doesn't have much power, but it seems like he'd be a decent OBP guy. How is his defense? Horrible
