QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 07:53 AM) I agree with a lot of this, but the issue isn't simply federal tax...it's a combination of taxes and other fees that nickel and dime regular people. Effectively, after deductions, I pay about 7-8% federal income tax, however, if you add up all the other taxes on top of that: Such as state/county/city tax, amusement tax, soda tax, city sticker tax/fees, license plate sticker tax/fees, water bills/water tax, sales tax, liquor tax, property tax, phone tax, tax on tax, etc...when all is said and done, it ends up being astronomically higher than just 7-8%. Everywhere I go, and everything I do, I'm getting taxed. Hell, I can't even drive most places without paying 5$ in tolls...they even have tolls that charge you to EXIT the f***ing highway, which feels like a f***ing entrapment scam. Essentially, the way the system is set up now, we double/triple/quadruple dip (and beyond) money that's already been taxed again and again, to the point that because of how they wield the tax code from the federal all the way down to the local level, it feels like a form of punishment. I'm fine with a graduated income tax, but with such an overhaul, taxes all the way down to the local level would have to be overhauled with it. It's insane how much we are taxed and most people don't even realize how much they're getting nickel and dimed, yet even local governments are beyond broke. This. SO HARD!

QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) She's been a medical assistant for like 7 years. She got her license in May and since then she's been training as a Triage Nurse at the doctors office where she works. Outside of that, she just has schooling and clinical rotations. Hmm how is she currently pursuing a position? I have a buddy who owns a nurse staffing agency but I think he requires nurses to have a year experience.

QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) Longshot, but does anyone work or know anyone who works as a Nurse in a hospital? My wife got her BSN in Nursing and is looking for an RN job, she's been on the hunt since the end of May and hasn't had much luck. Does she have experience?

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 12:37 PM) First those numbers are much higher than 1%. Second look at schools like U of Miami (private schools where money matters) and you are already down to 80%. Then add to the fact that those numbers dont mean anything... IE I took law school loans because my parents asked me to. While I was in law school they were 0 interest (ie free money). During that time period my parents invested the tuition into cds/bonds/etc. When I left law school I had X debt. The day before the deferment ended my parents paid the entire amount. Thus while I left school with debt, I never really had it. It was just a scheme to get free interest. So on that report I would have had "debt" even though it wasnt real. Not many parents would be that financial savvy to pull of something like that.

My job is a little odd. Most of employees are hourly. However my tiny division is all salary. Not sure why they decided to do it like this but it is what it is. I will contact my HR. I've been to sites like Salary.com and glassdoor. I'm not sure how reliable they are.

I think my annual evaluation is just around the corner. I didn't get a raise last year but that's because I started in August at this new gig. Is there a proper etiquette to negotiating raises? I feel like I make way below the market rate but then again, I'm not sure what source is adequate enough to be a good reference for it. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I'm just glad Detoilet isn't there. But a ring for Peavy and Thornton sounds nice.

The interesting thing is, there are professional workers with degrees that don't get $15/hour.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) Such a bizarre day at work. I spend a lot of time working with data from the previous day, except that for today, the "previous day" is September 30. Bwhahaha glad to see you back in the grind, Hickory.

I am glad they did the right thing. Hopefully republicans will try to win elections to influence policy in the future.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) Pretty much vintage Peavy in the postseason. That was sad. I wanted to see him do well.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 01:02 PM) The Senate has reached a deal. I've yet to see any sign that this will pass in the House. Oops, sorry. Not sure why yahoo thought it was a big deal to post. I should have read before posting.

I wonder if Peavy is getting shelled tonight.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 01:03 PM) It consists of one line "Swing at anything close" LMAO so true.

Cool article. Thanks for the post.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) You are right. I walked back into the room and saw him swing last night, I thought it was his first pitch No biggie. What is this cuban handbook you speak of?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) He swung at the first pitch he saw. That was straight out of the Cuban handbook. Eithier froze, but he didnt exactly have anywhere to go He should have ran through Carpenter. If I recall, he had a 2-0 count.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) But he's also had more inside the park home runs taken away from him and more back breaking double plays hit into as well, so That dp yesterday by Puig was just straight brutal. That was more on Eithier but still.
-
Why wouldn't the Red Sox re-sign him? Who do they realistically have going forward for C duties? Would they go after McCann?

Yahoo reported a deal has been made.

Politicians are becoming more obsolete, it's time to eliminate them.
