The Republican Thread
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Oct 4, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) The 'Tea Party' loved Herman Cain, for what it's worth. If the GOP were thinking, they would have had Herman Cain as their rep. However the Republican party would never allow such an event as a colored man to represent them.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 5, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) OK, Notre Dame haters, I'm going to serve one up on a platter for you: One discussion board I belong to is a professional board for ND alums. I've been getting hammered on there for blaming the Republican House for the shutdown. I pointed out that my family was without 100% of our income and one of the irreversible effects is having to 'furlough' our babysitter during the shutdown. One response: "You're lying. If you need a babysitter then your wife is working and you aren't losing 100% of your income. If your wife isn't working then you don't need a babysitter." I'm guessing Soxtalk can outsmart the ND alum and figure out at least one circumstance where my wife is neither gainfully employed nor available to take care of the kids. People can be so f***ing stupid sometimes.

Relationship Advice Thread
Yeah she's acting like a young woman for sure. It sucks because of the time invested and she'll probably try to make you feel guilty for pulling the trigger and breaking it off. Like most people are saying, it'll be the best for the both of you. This may not be the best thing to say but you're young and women come to their senses around that 30 range anyway.

Damn the Republicans just don't know when to quit. This is a travesty. She doesn't care about those children, she is just politicizing them. I'm not saying Democrats don't for all those who think I pledge allegiance. I'm just calling it as I see it.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 06:54 PM) Allen West, Clarance Thomas and others would disagree with you. Jindal is OK but I think is a little too close on the evangelical side to get mainstream GOP to come over. I'm sure they were all just gung ho for these guys too.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) OK, before this gets too far, I want to explain my situation in detail so people know exactly what they'd be supporting. My next paycheck would normally arrive 10/12. If the shutdown ends by Monday, I won't miss a paycheck. However, my backup plan for missing a paycheck is to make a withdrawal from my retirement account, and it takes 10 days to get that money, so I couldn't wait until Monday to make that decision and have gone ahead and requested 4 weeks salary. I figure that 4 weeks is a worst-case scenario in a shutdown, and with us spending money only on food, gas, and paying bills, we can make that 4 weeks salary stretch 6-7 weeks if we need to. Now, what I have lost permanently is the 10% penalty I have to pay on that withdrawal, plus I lose the agency match to my retirement contributions for six months. That's going to add up to about $3000. Now, if Soxtalk feels compelled to share in the loss of that $3000, I'm not going to say no, but I don't want anybody believing that I need money in order to feed my family. At least not for another 4+ weeks. I'm still down to pitch in as long as we have a valid method to get people what they need.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
We could just ask the site owners to start one up? I'm serious about this, I'd be more thing willing to chip in some cash to help people out. At least I know my money will be doing some good in that case. Anyway we can get this rolling?

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 10:13 PM) My guess is he's gawn. You can't wish ill on a person's family like he did. Hickory has to be feeling pretty low. He needs the money and has to hit his own retirement funds just to keep the family running. We should be starting a soxtalk fundraising effort if he needs the cash rather than Duke's pathetic stance. Awesome post. I'm down for that. Who wants to be in charge of the slush fund?

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Seriously, just pass the damn cr with a delay on Obamacare and then your shutdown is over. Then get your asses back into session and decide this thing NOW, but COMPROMISING, not saying you will do it my way only, clean, or i won't pass it. reid has had multiple chances to do it, and failed to do so. Both sides are playing politcs here, you choose to only vilify one. I think both sides are asshats. I just personally find what the GOP is doing distasteful. There are ways to do things and this is not a way to do things.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) They would just be called an uncle tom, or told they don't really represent that race/ethnicity. Look at the people saying Ted Cruz isn't Latino. He is as much Latino as Obama is black. Alpha that is projecting my friend. People just don't like Ted Cruz's politics. That Jindal character I heard would have been a good choice. My beef is, I don't think Republicans would allow a minority to represent their party.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 01:45 PM) Agree on House, disagree on Senate. Lots of already-red states on the slate for the Senate. And I think in cases where the state is not deep red or blue, the GOP is going to be hurting (pending on other world/national events of course). They will likely lose Senate seats IMO. House will likely stay red, but lose some ground and get close to even - but that is harder to predict and depends a lot on the economy in the next year. Either way if the American people send a message to this assholes it will be good.

GOP actually needs to produce viable candidates who can win. Might be good to start with a person of color/minority.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
GOP is going down big time for this. They will be crushed in 2014. All they had to do was weather the storm and take back leadership. I don't think that's possible after the latest shenanigans. I believe in free speech and such but damn Duke, you could be more compassionate and sympathetic toward your fellow posters. Your beef is with the government and that's fine but the people losing their paychecks are clearly collateral damage.

Government Shutdown on the clock thread
Damn just reading this thread is depressing. I'm sorry but these tea party f***ers need to go. They are trying to circumvent the process that is in place instead of doing s*** the right way. They need to compromise at this point and concentrate on winning elections. This s*** will make everyone hate them and rightfully so. My blood is boiling thinking about what I'd do to them in a closed room right now.
