Maybe this is the Cubs plan. Suck really bad now and try to get the sucking out of the way. Take the hit now. Trade anything of value for young players and get anything off the books that they can. Might work in the long run. But considering how long they have been waiting for a championship..they are going to have longer.
-
The 2011 Cubs are probably better than the 2012 Cubs. Unless the Cubs have some upcoming young talent, they are screwed for awhile. And their stadium is broken, thus they have to take a year away from it to renovate it in the near future. Dempster is their ace? Garza is decent I will admit and probably their best starter. The rest of the rotation includes a converted reliever and two guys Malholm and Volstad who went a combined 11-27 last season. Going to enjoy watching the Cubs this year. And they still have that goofball Soriano...their clean up hitter.

Toronto has two potential closers with Santos and Cordero. Vizquel played in the OF and then 1B. Interesting. Toronto might be better than the Red Sox this year. Especially if Red Sox continue to have injuries. Beautiful game though to see Cleve lose in 16 innings. They scored 4 in the second but then 14 innings of futility. Really would have been sweet if Tigs lost as well. But at least Cleve lost. And Perez sucked big time.

White Sox @ Texas Rangers April 6 OPENING DAY GAME THREAD
sunofgold replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2012 Season in Review
Hey, Texas has been nice to us. It is where 2005 ended and now it is where 2012 begins. Ventura couldn't beat up Ryan years ago...but maybe he take this opening series and get us on the right track. Let's mess with Texas! YEEHAWK! -
Cordero in the Blue Jays. Not looking good. Runner on 3rd and one out. ... But he gets out it...or Cleve falters under pressure. That is probably Buehrle's day. 6IP and 2 runs given up. Quality start but might not be enough today.
-
All of the games that are over were won by 1 run. And right now tie in Cleveland and Reds up by 1 run. Thus, possible all of the games today are all decided by one run. Perez taken out. probably a good move. He sucked today. Cleveland gets out of inning with tie. They can still win the game. Rather they not. Santos could be coming in at some point. Frasor pitched already.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) He just mind-f***ed Joey Votto. It was great. Damn Marlins get Mark Buehrle some runs. And Blue Jays please finish off Perez with a run or two or more.
-
Yes, Perez blows it. Buehrle hanging there only down a run If the White Sox wind up having the best closer in the AL Central, we are going to be great this year.
-
Jays starting the ninth with two straight hits off C. Perez (relieving a great performance by Masterson). Let us hope Perez blows this save.

Uhh of course we want the Tigers to lose. If they totally suck this season , then we have a better chance to win the division. Tigers should have lost that game. Kerry Wood..nice job ... you still have an ERA 0.00...isn't that crazy. WHIP is 9.00 but ERA is 0.00. Dempster gets charged with a run b/c of Kerry's nice performance. And he cannot get the win, but Kerry still can. haha! Buehrle had a very rough 1st inning but is fortunate to only have given up a run. Maybe he was a little bit nervous or too amp'd up? 28 pitches!

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) So didn't Valverde not blow a save all last year? Opening Day he does it? Something like that. Love baseball. Thus maybe he will blow all of his saves this year. Verlander has to fill good, right. 8 innings of shutout ball and then hand it over to this blow save dancer. Mets also won 1-0. Cubs are leading 1-0. New rule in NL..all games must end 1-0? Washington only has 1 hit in 7 innings against Dempster. That is sad for the N's.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Way to go Ryan Sweeney! Ex-White Sox dude! Thanks! No win for the Verlander. BS 1 (hopefully of many) for Valverde (guy had a career year last year).
-
Phillies won 1-0. Papelbon with the save. Thome did not have an AB. Red Sox score a run to make it 2-1. Please at least score one more run. More would be better.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) Jack Hannahan with a 3-run bomb, 4-0 Tribe. Great . Detroit with 2 runs and Tribe with 4 runs. Wanted to see the opposite. Marlins better win!
-
Strasburg gave up a run to the cuBS. How embarrassing! Four of the five games right now are 1-0. Scoreless in Cleve. Is any team going to score two runs today? Anybody going to hit a homer?
-
CuBS lineup is bad. Soriano in cleanup...guy only hits HRs when nobody is on base. And he is really there only serious HR threat in the small ballpark named Wrigley. Dempster is their ace? And Samardzija is their #3 starter? CuBS better be in last or competing for last or I will be disappointed. What a crappy looking team. Stewart, Baker, Byrd....really?

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) Still can't believe they didn't go out and get a 1B this offseason Maybe they want to trade for Dunn? Phillies scored a run. That should hold up even though I rather see the Pirates win. They don't get a chance to have a winning record too often.
-
Blame it on Buddy Selig! What did you do? Change something with the ball being used? Made sure all of the bats are defective now or something? ...Well Mets scored a run! That should hold up.
-
Wow, this is amazing. I don't remember ever watching so many box scores and seeing no runs. Making I should be hoping for some no score extra inning games. Must be the economy. Pitchers don't want to give up anything. Great pitching/defense so far.
-
OK. This is a good idea. Today is the first day of multiple games going on. Going on now Braves@Mets and Red Sox@Tiggs! Cheering on RedSox and Mets for these games.
-
Nice to see a slate of games today. Small slate but some good matchups. Strasburg against the Cubs. Strasburg has been a lot of hype and potential, but dang would like to see him shut down the Cubs today. And Buehrle against the Reds. Santana returning for the Mets. Thome not starting for the Phillies today but maybe he gets an AB.
-
Tigers (Verlander) and Indians (Masterson) have their home openers today. Have to be cheering against both the Tigers and Indians today. If they both lose, we will remain in first place!
-
Alburquerque is on the DL right now. Don't know when he is coming back and how effective he will be this year. Elbow troubles for him could be troubles for the Tigers. Some of the Tigers had career years last season. Of course, they are the favorites in the AL Central this year, but they haven't won it yet. Some injuries, maybe some guys having postseason hangover from last year, maybe some underperforming. You never know.
-
It has to be Konerko. Last year, you would have to say Guillen. I think that almost all major league baseball nationally recognize Konerko by now. After many All Star appearances and the 2005 World Series. And his long tenure with the White Sox. Could be Konerko for awhile. AJ maybe second ... but probably for being one of the more hated players with his 'bad boy' reputation...when he really isn't that bad. Just annoying to other teams. Giants and Angels probably have legit reasons to hate him.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) The Clevelander is probably the most popular bar on ocean drive, im psyched that they put a clevelander in the stadium complete with a swimming pool next to the bar. if we cant get a marlins winner we can at least try our hand at tossing a beach ball in a pool with hot drunk university of miami or florida internatiol girls. Clevelander is a nice bar. However, in the context of MLB..Clevelander to me means Cleveland Indians. And there is sports bar in Cleveland named the Clevelander. It probably would be worse if they were the same division or same league. But, like I said, the Marlins beat the Indians to win their first World Series. I guess there are different ways of looking at it.
