Should minor leaguers be paid more/unionize?
ShandyMan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You would think that teams would want to spend more money on their minor leaguers. I don't know how it works or what they get per diem for meals and such, or are they fed by the teams? I can't see how a team would want their prospects eating crap like mcdonalds every day, you aren't going to get much out of your body doing that. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 08:27 PM) I can't imagine they're going to DFA Drabeck that quickly solely for the purpose of returning Carroll to the roster. Drabek has such a higher ceiling too, would be a horrible move.

I could see them trying Davidson at 1B in an emergency role.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Micah is doing pretty good defense sofar today. 8 ground balls to him sofar and showing good range. Plus 2-3 batting again a left hander He had a nice game. The out he made was a nicely driven ball too.

Should minor leaguers be paid more/unionize?

I think they should. They make close to nothing at this point. They shouldn't be making substantially more but they also shouldn't be near the poverty line as the article says. Most of these players spend the offseason working out getting ready for the season, so their chances for other jobs are limited. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) He looks REALLY good. That's refreshing to see. He needs to cover 1b lol

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) So basically it was Drabek for Wilkins Basically. I'd take that swap any day of the week too.

Sale 2nd best lefty, Robertson #7 reliever, Abreu 3, LaRoche 4

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Mar 29, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Of course Sale's ahead of Bumgarner. Sale is arguably behind only Kershaw and Felix overall, and many people would argue that... Kershaw (stands alone) Felix, Sale (gap) Everyone else, headed by Scherzer, etc Bumgarner is a top 10-15 pitcher in baseball whose amazing postseason run is coloring people's perceptions of his ability heading into this season. There are people who say they'd take him over Kershaw, who is in the midst of a historic run right now. Those people are morons. I think a year or two from now it'll be Sale/Kershaw --------> Everyone else. -

I'd like to see Robertson pitch today and micah to get back on track. Lets get some momentum going.

QUOTE (ron883 @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 01:59 PM) If Bryant, Soler, and Russell have success, the Cubs have 3 perennial allstars. Soler and Bryant are almost guarantees IMO. Their corner outfield will be scary good. If Bryant and Rodon are as good as predicted, you take Rodon over Bryant? Can't say I agree with that. top of the line starting pitchers are MUCH harder to find. a lefty for that matter is even harder to find, we have the luxury of possibly having 3. Bryant is gonna be good, as will Soler likely. Calling them guarantees of being perennial allstars is a bit immature however.

Avi needs to make that play.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 12:44 PM) So can Drabek pitch right now? If so, he's got 10 days to show something. Making this bullpen isn't exactly a high bar. If Johnson is showing defensive lapses, then send him down and play Sanchez. They are probably rushing him, if only a tad, anyway. I don't know if i agree with that move if its based on 40 man spots. Have the best players play, kyle drabek isn't worth that.

lol semien/phegley 3-4…...

He was a huge prospect back a few years ago. I like this signing much more than a Penny-type deal. Quintana 2.0 (we can dream).

Samardzija said he's not looking for "top dollar'' in

Then sign that contract big guy. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) I wonder if he had the surgery to strengthen the arm because of the small tendon. Not necessarily because he had to have it due to injury and Houston was right. I doubt it, there are ways to strengthen tendons/ligaments through strength training that have been shown in research. Also, he could have easily strengthened the muscles around it.

QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 07:11 AM) many thanks, so in other words, they can replace the small ligament with, what i am understanding a bigger one, interesting. They typically take a piece of your hamstring tendon and transfer it

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) Is anyone else a bit weary of Robertson? Good performances in spring doesn't tell me much, but bad performances along with arm issues are a big red flag in my opinion. I don't think I have to remind you guys of the last time we acquired/signed a big name closer. His name was Billy Koch. That didn't turn out so well. Not really. He has no history of arm problems, at least that i know which comforts me. All pictures go through it some way shape or form.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 08:10 PM) Not necessary. They were right to be concerned. Bring in PTAC for a prognosis. The Aiken case is very complicated/unusual...so I'm pretty certain he wouldn't recommend taking him with the #8 pick...that the prognosis for a full recovery isn't clear at all. Well, the small ligament issue is a null point right now since he had the tommy john surgery. It all depends on what tendon they used and whether it was an allograft/autograft. You're likely looking at a typical TJ timeframe/prognosis, but I could be wrong.

We should have drafted Trea Turner.
