Looks like the Mets ain't done yet either, From ESPN. One of them is almost certainly the Mets, who also are believed to have interest in Magglio Ordonez, despite his $14-million salary next year. Scott Boras continues to tell people he has a five-year deal out there for Kevin Millwood at $15 million a year. But other than the Mets, it's hard to find a team that is actively bidding on him. Millwood told three baseball people in the last week that he wanted to return to Philadelphia. But Boras went nearly two weeks without responding to the Phillies' first contract offer (believed to be three years, for about $29 million).

Now with Vasquez gone, Expos r gonna offa Vladimar a contract so backloaded, they can finally pay him offf when the team permantly moves from Montreal. And he wants to go to a place where there's plenty of Dominicans, and Balitmore doesn't hav many, so I'd say he'd prob stick with the Expos now.

Roger Mason to be traded to TOR
DBAHO replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Rick Brunson used to play in the National Basketball League down here in Australia for a few years which says a lot. He only played a couple of good games for da Bulls last year anyways. Mason sounds like a good young playa, I wish my Magic would mayb go afta him instead of playin stupid Rod Strickland. -
Da Dodgers won't giv up their stud INF prospect, Edwin Jackson or Greg Miller. But let's try and get sum more young pitchin off em if we chuck in Jose as well, which we hopefully will.
-
I'm not suprised the Braves would be goin afta Jones and Mientkiweicz now that they've lost Sheffield and Fick. They've got plenty of good prospects to deal as well, I can see a deal gettin done soon b/w those 2 teams.

Millwood's in a tough spot now. Philly offered him a 3 year deal, but he wants 4 or 5, which is crazy in this type of market at the moment. Now with da Yankss gettin Vasquez, if they resign Pettite they mite almost be done starter's wise. Boston ain't gonna get any1 else, and I'm not sure Anaheim can afford Colon or Millwood now that they signed Escobar without movin some contracts first. I really like our chances of gettin one of em now.

No wonder they had so many turnova's in da first half. When u don't have a good hnadlin PG, just play a good ol fashioned full court press.

Thought I mite as well register since there's been so many Dodger - White Sox rumors in the past few weeks. Here's da article, The Dodgers' off-season search for a first baseman could finally end with the team reacquiring Paul Konerko, two club sources said Wednesday. General Manager Dan Evans has had numerous discussions recently with the Chicago White Sox about Konerko, a two-time Dodger minor league player of the year. The White Sox want left-handed starter Odalis Perez in exchange for Konerko, the Dodger sources said. The deal apparently has been on the table for weeks while the Dodgers pursued first basemen Derrek Lee and Richie Sexson. But Evans came up short in his attempts to acquire the top first basemen on his wish list, prompting him to reevaluate options. The Kevin Brown situation, however, might prompt Evans to retain Perez. Agent Scott Boras recently informed Evans that Brown wants to play for a team closer to his off-season home in Macon, Ga., saying Brown would waive his no-trade clause to join the New York Yankees. Evans has rejected the Yankees' proposal of right-hander Jeff Weaver for Brown, but talks are continuing, sources said. Evans does not comment on trade discussions. Some within the organization believe Konerko, traded by the Dodgers in 1998, would be a good fit. After being selected to his first All-Star team in 2002, Konerko struggled last season, batting .234 with 18 home runs and 65 runs batted in, but finished strong, hitting .275 with 13 homers and 43 RBIs in his final 61 games. His .507 slugging percentage during that span was higher than that of any Dodger everyday player. The Dodgers are seeking a middle-of-the-order right-handed batter to provide balance on offense and help for overburdened left-handed batter Shawn Green. Since becoming an everyday player with the White Sox in 1999, Konerko has hit at least 21 home runs four times and driven in at least 97 runs three times, with a career-high 104 RBIs in 2002. He had 32 homers in 2001. Konerko, 27, also is under contract through 2005 at salaries of $8 million and $8.75 million, respectively, the going rate for a young, run-producing first baseman. Evans does not want to trade the Dodgers' top prospects for a player who can become a free agent after next season, which is why he refused to include outfielder Franklin Gutierrez in the proposal for Sexson, and he wouldn't have to do that for Konerko. "I don't comment on trade discussions; I like to operate underneath the radar screen, and it has served us well," White Sox General Manager Ken Williams said. "All I will say with regard to Paul Konerko is this: The guy has only had three bad months, probably since he was in Little League. "In terms of his value to the White Sox, it is still very high. Baseball people are still very high on him and he's one of my favorite guys. That being said, we have to explore all options." The clubs seemingly have a match because Perez, like Konerko, is coming off a down year. Perez, 26, slumped last season to a 12-12 record with a 4.52 earned-run average. He also lashed out at team officials and everyday players over the Dodgers' lack of run production. He had a breakthrough season in 2002 after being acquired from Atlanta in the Gary Sheffield trade, going 15-10 with a 3.00 ERA while pitching 222 1/3 innings. Perez, who made $3.4 million in 2003 and is eligible for arbitration, was an outcast in the clubhouse last season, and Evans strongly considered trading him to Boston for outfielder Trot Nixon in July. Catcher Paul Lo Duca was among Perez's many critics, saying, "If you have a problem with something, you should talk to the team and not pop off in the paper. If you're going to pop off in the paper, then you've got no guts." Perez also criticized club officials for the handling of his season-ending fingernail problem. The Dodgers inquired about trading Perez for White Sox left fielder Carlos Lee, who is coming off a career year, but the White Sox weren't interested, Dodger sources said. Two National League officials said the Dodgers also could trade Perez to the St. Louis Cardinals for All-Star center fielder Jim Edmonds. Dodger sources said Evans has been reluctant to make that move because Edmonds, 33, is owed $34 million in the three final guaranteed seasons of his contract, including $9 million in 2004. Meanwhile, the Yankees, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners are among the teams aggressively pursuing Japanese shortstop Kazuo Matsui, another of the Dodgers' top off-season targets. The Dodgers also are interested in South Korean first baseman Seung-Yeop Lee.

Looks like the chances of Colon returnin are increasin by the day. NEW YORK (AP) — The Yankees and the Montreal Expos spent much of Wednesday discussing a proposed trade that would send pitcher Javier Vazquez to New York for first baseman Nick Johnson and outfielder Juan Rivera. The trade could be agreed to later this week, a pair of baseball officials familiar with the talks said on the condition of anonymity. The deal would be made on a tentative basis, giving the Yankees a window to work out a contract extension with Vazquez, who is eligible for free agency after next season. Vazquez, a 27-year-old right-hander, would fill one of the holes in the Yankees' starting rotation. He went 13-12 with a 3.24 ERA for the Expos last season, and is three years younger than Bartolo Colon, who is a free agent and would be an alternative. New York's rotation, the backbone of its run to four World Series titles and six AL pennants since 1995, is uncertain right now. Roger Clemens retired, and Andy Pettitte and David Wells filed for free agency. In addition, Wells had back surgery Tuesday. Johnson, 25, played first base for much of last season because of Jason Giambi's knee injury, and started the season as the regular designated hitter. While he is regarded as a top hitter - he batted .284 with 14 homers, 47 RBIs and a .422 on-base percentage - he has been injury prone throughout his career. Rivera, 25, hit .266 with seven homers and 26 RBIs in 173 at-bats and has a strong throwing arm. Montreal, which is owned by the other 29 teams, is faced with payrolls limits and Vazquez, eligible for salary arbitration, will likely get a raise from the $4,775,000 he made last season after losing his hearing. Johnson is eligible for salary arbitration for the first time while Rivera is not yet eligible. New York is pushing ahead on several fronts. Gary Sheffield, who met Monday and Tuesday with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at the team's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla., worked out Wednesday at the Yankees' minor league complex in Florida. Sheffield, a free agent who appears likely to sign with the Yankees, may have a physical Thursday, a sign that a deal is approaching. In other news Wednesday, left-handed reliever Felix Heredia agreed to a $3.8 million, two-year contract to stay with the Yankees. He was 0-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 12 appearances with the Yankees, who claimed him off waivers from Cincinnati on Aug. 25. He was 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 57 games with the Reds. Heredia had a $1.7 million player option for 2004, which he declined. His new deal calls for $1.8 million salaries in each of the next two seasons and gives the Yankees a $2.5 million option for 2006 with a $200,000 buyout. New York also is trying to re-sign Gabe White, another left-handed reliever. Chris Hammond, signed last offseason as a left-handed setup man, may be traded. The Yankees also are close to a $6 million, two-year agreement with right-hander Paul Quantrill, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. Backup catcher John Flaherty has agreed to a $775,000, one-year contract, but must pass a physical for the deal to be finalized.

Whoops, I'm an idiot.

If Konerko gets shipped outta here and Daubach ain't comin back, Gload's really our only option at 1B besides Frank which will obviously worry a lot of ppl. Names like Scott Spiezio have been floated around as possibilities, but Gload to me projects to be a .260 to .270 with bout 10 to 15 homers a year. I think we should look at Minktiewicz as well, but there's no chance in hell he's comin here, especially afta what he said bout our fans and the all star game.

From MLB.com, Royals: ESPN's Peter Gammons reported Wednesday that the Royals are close to signing catcher Benito Santiago and outfielder Raul Mondesi. The Royals have targeted Santiago as their No. 1 catcher. He made $1.775 million last year while hitting .279 for the Giants. Mondesi is among a group of outfielders who have been targeted with Raul Ibanez getting away to Seattle through free agency. The Royals continue to work trying to sign some of their own free agents before Sunday. Reliever Jason Grimsley is one they would like to get under contract. Grimsley said his first preference is Kansas City, but as of Tuesday night the one-year offer wasn't what he would have wanted. Yankees: A day after reporting the club's interest in a deal for Brown, Newsday wrote: "With the Red Sox stockpiling their best starting rotation in ages, George Steinbrenner is determined -- as always -- to top his historic rivals. So determined, some baseball officials believe, that he might be willing to acquire not one, not two, but three elite pitchers. As in three of the quartet containing Andy Pettitte, Bartolo Colon, Javier Vazquez and Kevin Brown." Twins: On the day after losing Hawkins to the Cubs, the Twins are still talking to their three remaining key free agents -- Eddie Guardado, Shannon Stewart and Kenny Rogers. "There has been dialogue, but there hasn't been an offer," said Brian Peters, one of Stewart's agents. "The closer we get to the (Dec. 7 arbitration offer) deadline, the less likely it will be that Shannon will end up with the Twins. There is still certainly a possibility." Peters said Stewart is still getting "significant interest" from other clubs. Guardado's agent, Kevin Kohler, said more talks were planned with Minnesota on Wednesday. He believed the Twins might wait until the weekend to present their offer. "I would think (Hawkins' departure) would decide things for the Twins a little bit," Kohler said. "It should sharpen their focus a bit on who they'll go after in their bullpen concerns."

The problem is now is that we can't really deal Maggs because he wants to test free agency next year. We offered him a new deal on less salary deferred in the long term but he rejected that, so why would teams like LA rent him for one season and giv up heaps.
