  1. Yeah it looks like the Bears are going to be terrible on offense again this season if Williams is out for an extended period of time.
  2. CQ always gets hit by pitches. Not that I'm complaining though.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:52 PM) So we have the 1st, 4th, and 6th place home run hitters in the AL and 5th, 6th, and 12th guys in OPS, with Thome 3rd on the team in both categories. That is as imposing a 3-4-5 as you'll find. Thome's rebound has been incredible though, he was absolutely horrible for two full months and has just been great since the beginning of June. I know everybody goes through slumps, but it was odd to see a hall of famer be unable to hit for two months, however Jim is back where he has been for a long time now, as an elite player. And the bottom half of the order has been a lot better than in previous seasons also. Having Ramirez in for Uribe for example has been just a huge upgrade. Alexei could end up hitting over .300 with around 15-17HR's, while we've got Swisher and Griffey who are both capable of putting up better numbers down the stretch of what they have so far.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) The funny thing with Thome is that he still can't hit the inside pitch at all. However, he's squaring up that outside pitch a lot more than he was early in the year, and most of his homers are going to the opposite way. I don't know why a team would ever pitch him a fastball away. So long as he keeps hitting the way he has for the past 2 months, I don't care where they pitch in so long as he can keep producing. Him and OC are the 2 players who come to mind for me who have really rebounded fantastically after very slow starts.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) No Losing a type B free agent gets you a sandwich pick Signing a type B free agent costs you nothing Hence we dearly hope that Joe Crede ain't a type B FA come the off-season (which unfortunately he probably will be).
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) No, only Type A teams give upa draft pick, the White Sox would gain a compensatory "sandwich" pick which is just an added pick in the draft. Ok cool. Just in Uribe's position, it depends if he wants to be a starter or not, because if he only cares about the $$$, then I think he would definitely take the $4M.
  7. So would a team have to give up a draft pick to sign Uribe if he was a "B" free agent, because I'm assuming they would, and that'll probably scare off a few teams to say the least.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Here's your real question. Do you offer him salary arbitration? No I wouldn't personally. I'd pay him nothing more than 2.5-3M at most a season to be a backup, and even that maybe too steep.
  9. Ozzie in Costume trying to avoid the suspension.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Giants...they're in a rebuilding phase, and signing one player like Konerko at his salary for two seasons won't put them over the top. In fact, one of the main reasons they're in the mess they are in is/was keeping so many veterans/aging players on their roster one or two years too long (players like Dave Roberts, Randy Winn, Durham, Aurilia, Zito), many with longer-term deals. I'm not so sure about that. Remember the Giants need to keep getting 3M in attendance every year to help pay off that ballpark. And while they do have some very good prospects, a lot of them are very young, so they won't be ready for a while. And you know that Brian Sabean loves his veterans. If they can't sign a major FA, then they may have to trade for a player like Konerko and hope that he rebounds. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for at this point.
  11. That's how I want to win every game from here on iut, great pitching, good relief and some clutch hitting. Because that's how we're going to have to win come playoff time. Let's keep beating up on the Tiggies, and knock them out of the race.

Thanks for the tips guys. I think Rendezvous will be a must, and we'll definitely be hitting up Beale Street tomorrow and Saturday Nights.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Aw crap, sorry DBAH0, I owe you a tour of Memphis stuff to do from when I lived there. You'll have it in this thread by tomorrow. Thanks Matt. Weather's going to be nice and hot for it at least.
  14. It probably gives some merit to Dayn Perry's piece, that the Sox were losers for trading for Griffey because they'll use him a lot in CF, and that's really going to hurt their overall defense for a marginal upgrade on offense depending on how he hits.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) Wear a University of Kansas championship shirt. Eat WHy are you going there?? One of my good buddy's birthday is on Sunday and he's always wanted to go there to see Elvis and the nightlife. Shipps if I wear your magic glasses, then I might be safe?
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Yes, but he's a damn good ballplayer. I wanted him on the Sox when the Tigers got him. Considering they gave up Urbina for him, who's now in jail, that's been an excellent trade by Dombrowski. But tonight, Danksy needs to give us some innings, and we need our bats to continue hitting Verlander.
  18. I think Greg meant to say good defensive CF's who can start for us, or at least, that's what he should have said.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Swisher is not a good CF either. I trust the opinions of those who've watched Griffey and say he's terrible out there. There are no good defensive options in cf right now. Swisher's been better than advertised though. There were serious doubts before the season started on whether or not he could handle CF and if Owens was going to have to play there, and for the most part, he's answered those questions. I'm not sure what his RZR is however. Next season, I think getting an upgrade at CF, and moving Swisher to 1B is an option, if you can trade Konerko. Otherwise, keep Swish at CF, and upgrade at either 2B/SS, 3B and the back of the rotation and bullpen.
  20. We probably need a car to do some driving to the shops or whatever though, but I'll suggest that knight.

Ok you know the deal, I'm going there this weekend, first time, and am looking for recommendations. So far, here is a possible list of things I'll be doing with my group; Beale Street Raiford’s Hollywood Disco Lounge Peabody Hotel Pink Palace Museum The Rendezvous Restaurant (best bbq in Memphis apparently) Sun Studio (recording studio as used by Elvis, BB King etc) Walk along the Mississippi river and its accompanying parks National Civil Rights Museum
  22. Question; I am going on a trip with about 19 people to upstate NY next weekend, and we need to hire some vehicles to get up there and back. So where would be the best place to go to? We were thinking of maybe hiring a couple of minivan's and then a smaller car, but whatever would work out the cheapest would be the best. I also get discounts from Avis and Budget through my work of around 15-20%.
  23. Hopefully it works to our advantage. With our starting pitching faltering, we need all the offense we can get at this point.
  24. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:27 PM) Over the course of his contract, I think that signing will prove better than Paul Konerko's extension. Absolutely. It's just sad how Paulie's bat speed has slowed down that he can't hit fastballs anymore.
  25. Depends on the price though with Uribe. Defensively he gives you everything you want with an utility man, but he may want to start elsewhere, and the Sox may give Getz that chance to take over.
