QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 03:25 PM) That's $10 million over two years, or $5 mil per... which is only $500k more than Kenny gave Uribe to be a utility player this year. Good luck finding a veteran FA defensive wiz who can play 3B, SS, and 2B exceptionally well and will agree to only $2 million a year. I don't see why Uribe at 2/10 would be a bad investment. That would only make up 5% of the Sox's payroll and there are several aging vets coming off the books over the next two years. On top of the insurance money that they should be getting from Jose's injury, the losses of Cabrera, Crede, and Griffey will free up about $20-25 million for next season. And with the Sox on pace to draw a healthy 2.5 million this season, I don't see JR pressuring KW to slash payroll any time soon. Well when the Sox signed Uribe to that deal, we didn't have Cabrera or Alexei. We basically had a middle infield of Danny Richar and Juan Uribe. Utility players just don't make $5M a season (especially ones that hit for a weak average and K a lot). I'd rather go with Getz for the min, maybe sign another utlity infielder who can play SS/3B, and use the 4M you'd save towards a starting pitcher, a 3rd baseman, or a bonafide stud center fielder. All depends on how much $$$$ KW has to spend this off-season though.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) The way Allen is driving the ball this year, he might put up some serious numbers in a hitter's park like Charlotte. Hence why I think it's worth putting him up there from the start (although I can see the argument that we'd be rushing him too fast). Didn't Josh Fields put up great numbers in his 1st season for Charlotte though back in 2006?

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) Russian convoy heads into Georgia, violating truce This is no longer a "liberation" of the rebel regions (like it ever really was), it's an out right invasion to restore the USSR. That might be just a tad over the top. Not that I'm agreeing with what the Russians did here, but you can't say they want the Soviet Union back, based on 1 invasion (which has a lot of similarities to the situation in Kosovo for example).

That pricetag is still a bit too steep for mine. I'd rather turn it over for Getz, if that's the amount Uribe wanted.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) He is still really young. At least starting at B-ham would be a fine idea by me. Either option would be ok, but I think he needs to be in Charlotte at some point next season, with the way he's been hitting this season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 12:12 PM) Last week I was wondering if we might have been able to interest them in a Contreras/Bailey swap to add a veteran with playoff experience to their starting rotation. But now...argh. I wonder if they'd be interested in Brian Anderson actually? Their OF is pretty wide open right now.

QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 10:11 AM) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=450315 .274/.372/.536... .908 OPS 405 at-bats; 31-doubles; 21-homeruns; 60 RBIs Thanks. Small sample size in B-Ham with only 86AB's, but he's got a .942 OPS there with 6 HR's and a 22/15 K/BB ratio. He also has a 1.114 OPS in games away from B-Ham. I'd move him up to Charlotte next season, and see if he's the guy who can take over 1B from 2010 (depending on what we do with Konerko, Swisher, Griffey etc.).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) Free if you order the Comcast Triple Play. I seriously considered a craig's list ad to swap my 360 for a wii just because my wife would get involved. However, I then got greedy and thought of Madden (pre-ordered yesterday) and NBA 2k9... Yeah saw that but you're locked into a 2 year contract with Comcast right (which would be a no-no for me). Is $250 the normal retail price? I'd be looking for a bundle (with say the Sports Game, 2 controllers and maybe 1 other game) for around $300.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 07:54 AM) I wouldnt say Shawn Johnson looks 12...she has a young looking face but thats a bit of a stretch. I couldn't believe how tiny she was as well. Probably also has one of the smallest necks I've ever seen. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 12:10 AM) Oh absolutely, I mentioned earlier in this thread that she is just amazing. They said tonight that she and her boyfriend (who I guess is a swimmer too) broke up, what is wrong with that guy? Between Miss Rice and Alicia Sacramone (although she had a bad night), that is just some outstanding hotness. As for Phelps, I really like him. I am usually one who hates athletes who get media hype, but in the case of Tiger Woods and Michael Phelps, it's not media hype. Woods is the best golfer of all time, Phelps is the best swimmer of all time (if not olympic athlete period), and by the time they retire they'll be the best by a wide margin. About 6 months back, Rice had a public Facebook page. Needless to say, there were some very interesting and very nice photos on there. Unfortunately the Aussie Swim Team Management made her shut it down. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) Micah Owings to Cincy as a PTBNL That makes the deal a little more interesting now. I actually wonder if Cinci has soured enough on Homer Bailey now that the Sox could come in for an offer for him?

QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 12:08 AM) I know jack about gymnastics but I think younger = advantage. Then again, we are loosing because of mistakes made, not the age difference. Surely if you've had more international experience it's a big advantage. -

Weightlifting I think, and they're doing well in Diving. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) That sounds good. You in America for school or how does that work? Hope you have fun over here. Internship for 1 year. Been here for 3 months and have 9-10 months left, but yeah it's been a blast so far.

Well there goes that idea. Who else is out there possibly who can help us I wonder.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) I still like Uribe. We all have our favorites. I hope he keeps playing the way he has since he's been at 3B though.
-
I doubt he'll make much of an impact this season, but it's annoying that he'll be pitching in our division, so I imagine we could very well face him at some point.
-
I wasn't confident on Danks' at all coming into this season, after how teams saw him more than once last season really beat up on him and he faltered down the stretch. Boy has he proven me wrong or what. Also I thought Swish would have a little more pop, but hopefully he'll still end up with around 25HR's and an OPS around the .800 mark, pretty good for a major league CF.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 11:13 AM) Two posters on WSI are saying that he signed this morning. I wonder if they'll wait till the 15th to announce it. Good news if true. Let's hope it's indeed the case.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) Aregentina bounced back from their opening game loss to Lithuania by beating Australia handily. The Aussies aren't a great team, but Patrick Mills looks exactly like he did last season helping St. Mary's to a great season. He's going to have a good NBA career eventually. We've been terrible thus far. Bogut is playing injured, and Mills has been the only shining light. He's probably too small to be a starting PG, but he'll be a dynamite PG to have off the bench in the years to come. -
QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 12:03 AM) So where are you headed to next Dbaho?? What is the next stop on the US Tour? Upstate New York this weekend. I am planning on going to Las Vegas in November. I have 1 month from Apr. 16 to May 16 where I can travel all around America before I have to return home.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) 10 minutes southeast of downtown? And you are still alive? I'm impressed. Funny story, everyone else in my group went home at 3 on Sunday Morning but I ended up at a bar drinking til 5, and then proceeded to walk on my own for a good 15 - 20 mins before finding a taxi. Probably not the safest thing I've ever done in my life.

QUOTE (quickman @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) I think they go hard after Hudson. KW has mentioned him before. KW gets stuck on guys and doesn't let go. They will lose crede, and OC and pick up hudson, fields slots over to third with his crappy Batting average, and Getz and uribe fills in the infield. Now we jsut need a leadoff hitter again. Has the O-Dawg actually ever hit leadoff before? Alexei could always be an option, although he won't be taking as many pitches as a Swisher obviously, and you may want to use his bat more in RBI situations in which he's been good at this season so far IIRC.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) And similarly, no nation in Europe is willing to have its people freeze in the winter because Russia cut off its natural gas supplies over a country a thousand kilometers away. That shows how important it is to have good natural resources in your country that you can utilize in situations like this. Unfortunately it's a case of big fish eating little fish really.
