    QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:29 PM) end of argument Yeah that's a pretty damn good argument you make.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) I don't know the guy, but looking at his career, I'd rather stick with Boone. I remember the NY media speculated about getting him before they got Marte and said it would only take a mid - level prospect most likely. I take that with a grain of salt, but if the price was right and with Masset gone, we need another reliever IMHO.
  3. They're talkin Lannan up as an NL rookie of the year candidate in Washington. Unless they were getting Fields back, I couldn't see the need for the Nats to do it.
  4. He was meant to be in the Manny deal IIRC. If you only had to give up a mid - level prospect, I'd be for it, especially with Boone being very inconsistent lately.
  5. Only player I could think it would be is Nick Swisher. Doesn't make sense to sell low on him though really, when he's got a manageable contract.

    QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Katie Holmes? Oh please god no. I'd rather they bring Halle Berry back than have Holmes act again in that franchise.
  7. That's a good deal for the Rays only giving up 1 of their top 4 prospects in Brignac. Long - term there wasn't a place for him in all likelihood after the drafting of Tim Beckham anyways. And now the Pirates have gotten 6 prospects back, only 2 real good ones I'd say for Bay, Nady and Marte.
  8. Steff's a lot busier than she used to be, doesn't have as much time to spend on the boards, as a lot of us don't anymore either unfortunately.

    QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:14 PM) Any thoughts on who would be Soxy?
  10. Also we've basically given up Brandon McCarthy (Danks + Masset) and Aaron Cunningham (Richar) for John Danks and Ken Griffey Jr. That's some pretty good wheeling and dealing by KW.
  11. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) And I have no idea why the Nats would give up young starting pitching. Well I think it's one thing that they actually have some backup in. They're just desperate for offense really. No Johnson or Young for most of the season, and they just need more power in that lineup.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) I hope you mean just being released and not traded because I don't think anyone would want him as part of a trade. No I mean released, he has no value whatsoever. From Rotoworld;
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) Anybody but Shelby. Can the White Sox find some way to include Robert Valido in some kind of deal. I'm just tired of watching him suck. Valido should be gone by next season I'd imagine.
  14. My guess is either Brandon Allen, Jack Egbert or John Shelby is involved in the deal somehow.
  15. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) Just like Kenny to make deals around the deadline for players we have no need for. People complain that Kenny never makes a move at the deadline (all I heard for the past week in the Trade Winds was this) and now that he actually does, people don't like it?
  16. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Your sound reasoning and well thought out logic would get you IP banned at a lot of places. Paulie is going nowhere, as he should go nowhere. Griffey will NOT be on the 2009 Sox unless they keep him on to DH and let Thome go (I'd prefer Thome, he's kept his power better). If you asked me for the BIGGEST benefit to this deal it would be the draft picks we'd get for Griffey when he signs somewhere else as a free agent. The Sox could conceivably get 6 supplemental picks next year - 2 for Cabrera, 2 for Griffey, 2 for Thome (if no option picked up). I'd say that would help the farm system, but I'm not high on the Sox's drafting. The Sox would have to offer Griffey arbitration to get the draft picks though right? We'd be crazy to offer him $12M next season.

    QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:38 PM)
  18. Ed Wade loves his Middle Relievers. He'd have a 25 man roster full of them if he could you know.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) That would make more sense. He's a big power pitcher with some good stuff out of the pen. Has some control issues though apparently. Weird that Bowden would trade 2 closers in a row though.
  20. Lannan has a 4.48 FIP this season FWIW. Seems like he's had excellent defense behind him that has saved a few runs to say the least. Does have a 56% GB ratio though.
  21. One thing I will say though, the Sox have hit on Danks and Floyd, 2 young pitchers who they've traded for over the past couple of years. I'll give KW and the scouting staff the benefit of the doubt here if they do indeed go for Lannan (who I had heard nothing about prior to 10 mins ago).
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) is maccullough going to make the majors? Not with us. He'd make it for the Nats someday in their ballpark though I'd imagine. Also Lannan has some weird numbers this season; Home - 2-5, 42IP, 16K's, 18BB's, 4.71 ERA, 1.40WHIP. Away - 4-5, 77IP, 50K's, 22BB's, 2.57 ERA, 1.23WHIP.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) This is kind of puzzling. Why would the Nats trade away a pitcher that is 23. Anyone want to tell me something about this guy. Ie, is he for real and are we talking about a nice long-term acquisition or are we talking about a guy thats been pitching way over his head, despite being young. You have to like the fact that he has fewer hits than innings pitched, but he has thrown a decent number of walks and doesn't get a ton of k's. Is this guy going to get lit up in his transition from the NL to AL. Also, we have to be talking about a package which involves both Fields & Poreda correct (why would the Nats trade a 23 year old without getting significant pieces in return). Hell looking at his minor league numbers, the guy just shot through the system. 2006 was his first full season and he was nothing short of mediocre, than 07 he goes from High A to the Majors. 08 he spent the entire time with the Nats. That's like asking why would the Nats trading Jon Rauch when he was their closer and under their control til what 09 or 2010? You know how much Jim Bowden loves his toolsy outfielders and position prospects. I don't know how Fields would be a fit for them considering they have Zimmerman at 3B already (unless Fields moved to 1B/OF). Otherwise my guess would be Broadway + McCullough + Shelby maybe, the Nats are just really going after loading up their system.

    Ok after a 2 week wait (sold out at IMAX in NY for 2 weeks as I refused to go see it at a normal cinema) finally got to see it last night. Here are my thoughts; All in all I really enjoyed the film, but there were certainly aspects they could have done a little better. I'll miss Heath Ledger big time after seeing him in that though.
