  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 11:41 AM) And he would want to go to SF why? Konerko is going nowhere, just hope he gets hot. To start. The Sox aren't going to play him when he's hitting like this. Hence why they made the trade for Griffey Jr. Swish hasn't been good this season, but he gets on base and when he does get hot (as he was in June), he can put up some sick OPS numbers.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Konerko can't be traded. The White Sox don't pay contracts when they ship people off. Konerko has no trade rights and no team will assume the contract. Bad philosophy to have then. Konerko has his 10/5 rights doesn't he, so he'll only approve a trade to a West Coast team I would imagine, somewhere close to his home in Scottsdale. A team like the Giants who would only have to pay Konerko say 6/7M for a couple of season and trade an insignificant minor leaguer for him, might well take the chance and hope he rebounds.
  3. Anyone hear Artest's comments this morning about what Yao said about him? Ha, this is going to be hilarious to watch. You can tell why Geoff Petrie just wanted to get rid of him.
  4. Ok wow. 3 years ago this place was going nuts for us NOT getting Ken Griffey Jr. And now we have him. Right now, KW should be on the phone, doing what he can to trade Paul Konerko. Maybe the D-Backs would be desperate enough to make a move with them missing out on Teixeira, and somehow hoping they can fix his swing (because right now you'd get him for nothing). Maybe the Giants who are always desperate for bats. Swisher should move to 1B, Konerko should hit only against lefties (DH for Thome against them) and play some 1B still, while Griffey moves into CF. Richar I still have hope for, and Masset came on a bit as well this season, but with Griffey you're getting a "name" player, who will help put more butts in seats so there'll be other benefits for the move.
  5. Wonder how Tallon feels about that move though.
  6. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 07:46 PM) Yeah, I got it. Haven't got to really sit and listen to it yet, but it seems pretty solid after a few times. Sequestered in Memphis, Lord I'm discouraged and the 11th song (can't remember what it's called) are my favs so far.
  7. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) True, but I just noted both because if it came down to both Miller and Camby, I pick Camby all the way. Josh Smith trade involves Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Perovic anda 1st round pick. That's a major win for the Warriors. Harrington isn't in their plans, Jackson's going to be a 6th man after the Maggette acquisiton, and Nelson never plays rookies. PG: Ellis / Williams SG: Ellis / Maggette SF: Maggette / Smith PF: Smith / Wright C: Biedrins That's a very nice looking lineup that would score a TON.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 01:35 PM) I didn't say elite, I said above average. He's said it a couple of times in post game interviews when he's guarding PG's. He's also been quoted in the Sun-times before talking about how Ben really had terrible technique defending his rookie year but has really improved to the point where he's not a liability and actually is above average guarding the 1 spot. Problem is, how many times is he going to defend against 1's though? You'd need a big PG who could guard SG's, otherwise Gordon would be abused on the low post by bigger SG's all day long.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) I will s*** a brick if the Sox acquire Fuentes. Why you ask, because I can't imagine how much the club would be overpaying for a reliever who will be walking in the off-season. Whatever happened to Manny Corpas this season as well (granted I haven't really been keeping an eye on the Rockies much this season, but it seems like they're finally getting it together).
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 02:35 PM) I remember me and you always dreaming up different ways to get Tracy. Was that the off-season of 2005? I think I moved onto dreaming about acquiring Quentin after that. Luckily it actually happened. Tracy's versatile enough to play 1B/3B/OF as well. You could quite easily stick him into LF next season and have Fields starting at 3B if that's what you wanted.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:24 PM) We know how infatuated I've been with Tracy in the past. I really like this guy as an above average 6 hole hitter. He can play both 3B and 1B and would be a great acquisition because he could have a long-term future with the club as well. I don't know what the Dbacks would be looking for though. They want to improve there offense so I'm guessing any piece the Sox give up for Tracy would have to be a piece the Dbacks could use to acquire a big bat. Surely they would have no interest in Konerko, despite the fact that they have previously been rumored to have interest (no recent rumors). I thought that was me (just ask Rowand44). My guess would be, the Sox would have to deal an offensive piece (not Konerko unfortunately) or prospects to get him. I would offer Crede straight up, or maybe try to use Fields and get something back along with Tracy (but the D-Backs have a Fields clone in Mark Reynolds I guess). I wonder if they would be interested in Swisher actually? Or Clayton Richard, because they need a 5th starter with Owings in AAA.
  12. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2008 -> 12:15 PM) Some news and notes as well, GSW is working deeply with Atlanta on a S&T for Josh Smith and the Bulls are looking to trade Cedric Simmons, Andres Nocioni and a 1st round pick for Brad Miller. Sac wants Noah to replace Simmons. And Bulls had a chance to trade Hinrich to Denver for Camby and thought about it too long. Denver presented them the idea, Bulls were taking too long, so Denver made the trade with LA. You gotta feel sorry for Hawks fans. Just when it looks like they're on their way back to respectibility, they blow it all because they didn't want to re-sign their RFA's. Smith with the Warriors would eb fun to watch. Would involve Al Harrington would be my guess and some future firsts at least. Probably not enough though. Don't know if Miller would be the best fit for the Bulls, as he's pretty soft defensively and pretty injury prone. For that deal though, I think they have to pull the trigger. Also on Kirk, Denver has that trade exception they can use if they want. Bulls could always deal Kirk for a future 1st and a good young talent, and then re-sign Gordon if they wanted to.
  13. It's sad he's fallen this far from the player he was in the 2005 playoffs. We just had to re-sign him though.
  14. Anyone checked out the new Hold Steady album?
  15. Would be nice to keep signing these type of guys, to improve our system by any means possible. Arguelles does sound like an interesting prospect to say the least.
  16. How's Gerst doing overall now? Also not a bad start for Poreda, would like to see him K some more though.
  17. Good luck to Yao with Artest and T-Mac hogging the ball on offense. It won't matter if they only give up 70PPG though. Wonder what this does to Shane Battier now as well (6th man off the bench I guess). Makes the Battier for Rudy Gay trade seem not so good now.
  18. House. Friends. Two and a Half Men. Simpsons is now.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 04:09 AM) I would love Orlando Hudson though. I can see either Furcal, Hudson or Ellis being one of KW's main targets this off-season. Solidfy that middle infield with Ramirez being in one of the spots, unless they want to turn it over to Danny. Maybe Juan Rivera could be a type of guy if an OF spot became available after a trade (or Dye moving to 1B/DH) who could be interesting. How's he doing this season actually?
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 10:35 AM) Teams are asking for too much right now. Just an example is what the Pirates want for Jason Bay from Atlanta. They were offered 4 minor leaguers , one of whom had a pretty good stint with the Braves earlier in the year, and turned it down. 4 young guys , one of whom is major league ready for a guy who is only under contract for the rest of this year and 2009 seemed like way too much to give up but yet the Pirates said no. Won't be much happening till some of these teams lower their demands , maybe at the last minute. I think the Pirates ownership actually nixed that deal IIRC. Lillibridge was one of the prospects who would have gone the other way I think. Seems quite crazy to me, as the Pirates just need to load up on their minor league system.
  21. I showed my British Roommate that, and he's like "I don't get it". I'm just like "how can you not find that funny?". Funny thing was, the same woman got called out by Drew for winning, and then Drew realized he'd called up the wrong person, so he had to send her back down.
  22. QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:24 AM) I've been unemployed for about three weeks now and i have to say that Drew Carey sucks as host of "The Price is Right". He seems to be very uninterested in the job and it's a shame to see him reduced to that job (though i know he's getting paid a boatload so i shouldn't feel that sorry for him). I saw a clip on The Soup the other night where 1 woman bids 999, and the next woman bids 998. The price was around 1,000 something, and the woman who bid 998 went crazy thinking she had won. Oops.
  23. Are they going to give up Melky or Brett Gardner up for him though? If I was the M's, I'd probably take a lesser prospect to be able to dump Jose Vidro also (if his contract still goes after the season).
  24. Apologies if posted somewhere else, but there was a deadline article, saying he thought we would get Burnett for Jack Egbert and Brandon Allen. Thoughts if that actually happened? Would you want A.J to opt out after this season?
  25. They were absolutely desperate for a lefty specialist anyways. Marte's been one of the better ones around in the past couple of season against lefties IIRC, but there will always be questions about how he handles the pressure. I love Tabata as a prospect, but the Yanks did pretty well here. Shows what you can do when you put some money into the farm system so you can make trades like these.
