Also Yahoo Sports had a report saying the Bears are pretty much certain to lose Briggs, Berrian and their top special teams guy. That's quite a bit of talent they'd be losing there. I'm not sure that team is a playoff team for next season. They'd need massive upgrades at RB, WR and OL, and to find a quality replacement for Briggs, to do so. I don't know if they can do that all in 1 off-season in a weak FA class.

Cowboys re-signed Flozell "The Hotel" Adams to a 6 year deal. My guess is he'll play 3 or 4, and then either retire or be cut. Crucial signing for the O-Line, but cap-wise we're going to have issues. And Terence Newman and DeMarcus Ware are going to both want to be paid next off-season IIRC. Could end up being a costly signing, but one I think we had to make, considering the alternatives. I know both the Dolphins and Bears were going to target him if he hit FA.
-
And Phoenix got Al Montoya very cheaply at the deadline, which I wasn't too happy about. If there's a can't miss goalie prospect in the top 10 picks in the upcoming draft, that's the way the Hawks need to go IMHO. A Carey Price type of prospect mind you.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 29, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) If we could manage to move both Crede and Uribe, I think that gives Jason a good chance at the big league roster. That would be an ideal scenario for me. Of course a lot depends on whether Ramirez starts the year off in AAA or with the Sox.
-
And it happens the 1st game just after the deadline. Something like this happens, and no other team may want him next season.
-
Very nice rebound for Patty tonight. The Hawks are still hanging in there, and these are the type of games they need to win. A healthy Jason Williams is so important to this team's offense as well. Not as important as Toews, but important nonetheless.
-
And the rich get richer. Brown will be a good backup for KG, and an upgrade on the likes of Scalabrine. If they get Cassell as well, they're basically set. I know the Magic were after P.J as well, so this is certainly a blow.
-
Well I'd do it because it's saves 9.5M in payroll, for basically 2 players who to me are not going to be everyday players for this team. These 2 can be used to help rebuild the system, and then that money could be used to acquire an impact player (Brian Roberts for example), or you can put that money towards Latin America and the draft. Crede's more likely to put up better offensive numbers than Uribe I'd say (although that's certainly debatable). And he'll give you better defense at 3rd base. Uribe had a very subpar year defensively in 2007. That was actually one of the reasons why KW went out and got Orlando Cabrera.
-
Crede + Uribe for Sanchez and prospects I would do. Uribe just hasn't improved offensively since he's been here, in fact he's probably gone downhill defensively in each season. Even though it's a contract year for him, and he should be motivated to do well, I don't see that happening.

So I saw this on ESPN by Bucci; I also saw that John Paddock was fired in Ottawa by Brian Murray, and Murray is taking over as the coach again. Any interest in either of those 2 guys as a possible replacement for Savvy?

Has the Internet taken some fun out of baseball?
DBAHO replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No. In fact it's the complete opposite for me. It's raised the enjoyment level for me. I only got into baseball about 10-12 years ago, when I saw Frank Thomas for the 1st time slugging a long home run on a 30 mins weekly highlights show. I was hooked. But the next 5 or 6 years or so, I just couldn't follow it. The only way I could keep in touch with how my team was doing was through end of year sport almanacs and through the box scores and standings in the papers. Nowadays, I have all of this information in front of me which I can use. It's definitely increased my knowledge of the games, in terms of how statistics are used etc. I guess it's because I enjoy working with numbers and stats, and that I enjoy baseball as a sport, it's the perfect mix for me. And then you've got a place like this, where you can discuss so many different things about the team. You didn't have that chance 10 years ago. Coming on here after the 05 World Series Win, and seeing what it meant to long suffering White Sox fans who had been following the team a lot longer than I had, that was great. -
QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 09:39 AM) IIRC, the PBP guy for mlb.tv even said "what a surprise" when he popped up on the 1st pitch. No offense to Uribe, but I want no part of him on this team this season. Ship him off to B-More puh-lease. Unfortunately with what has happened to Richar, I get the feeling, Uribe is the favorite to start at 2nd right now. Another season of a sub .300 OBP with a .220-.230 AVG and over 100 K's. YIPPEE!!
-
I had to laugh when I saw Uribe popped up on pitch 1 of his 1st AB. Sounds as if BA has had a good game though.
-
Well Diablo's certainly getting quite a bit of work now though. Weird name though, Diablo.
-
That's be pretty stupid on the Devils part if it was a Lang for Parise deal. The Hawks would have jumped all over that.
-
Some Canes' fans thoughts on the deal; And thoughts on Ladd pre - deal;
-
Not really a ringing endorsement is it. You've got to have some mobility as a QB to make it in the NFL nowadays.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Nisreen Swedberg? Sounds like she was prejudiced against for being Muslim and Jewish. That's a rough combo I'm wondering what the parents were thinking calling her that. Hasn't this happened before as well?

Magic win again, looking good things for the 3rd seed at this stage. Hedo Turkloglu is becoming Lebron like in the 4th quarter, a measly 17 points in that period today. And importantly, Rashard Lewis is starting to get it going. If he and Hedo can co-exist and get there 20+ points in the playoffs, the Magic can certainly worry Detroit and Boston in the playoffs IMHO. We just need to do better at PG/SG. Re-sign Dooling (perfect bench PG), and try to sign Jose Calderon in the off-season. Then try to trade Nelson for Haslem in the off-season.

I have 3 suits. All are pinstriped, I love my pinstripes. And all are black, 1 salesperson had the nerve to call me an undertaker, when I told him I wanted a dark suit. I've had 2 for 2 and a half years, and they're not in the best condition. I got 1 just before XMas for $450, Studio Italia, came with 2 pairs of pants, so a decent deal. I have only worn it once though, at my Work XMas party, am really saving it for important occasions in the future. I probably need to get another everyday suit though.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 05:15 AM) According to ESPNews, Yao Ming is going to miss the rest of the season. If that's true the Rockets are done. Still want to bet on them DBAHO? Stick a fork in them, they're done. I turned into the kiss of death didn't I. Any other teams in the West you want me to put my money on?

I was thinking Lang could have been dealt as well, but it looks like he's sticking around. Ruutu didn't have a future here. Savard soured on him, and you're not going to pay a 4th line grinder (which is what he is ATM) over $2M next season. That's Marty LaPointe money / production. Ladd went after Barker in the draft a few years back IIRC. Has about 10 points in his last 11 games. Put him on one of the top 2 lines, and see what he can do. He's also a RFA at the end of the season. I think this was the perfect time to deal Havlat as well, but the Hawks could always do it in the off-season or at the deadline next season possibly. The worst thing for me, was that Brian Campbell was dealt to the Sharks, and they want to re-sign him long - term. That means that both Boyle and Campbell might be off the market. And the Capitals might try to re-sign Cristobal Huet as well.
