QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) Finally saw Juno. Ellen Page wasn't nearly as obnoxious and pretentious as she was in Hard Candy. In fact, she was quite charming. Enjoyable film for a Valentine's Day Night. Well I saw Hard Candy for the 1st time on the weekend. Ummm, it was an interesting movie to say the least. So weird seeing Ellen Page play 2 completely different roles, and yet do them so well. Michael Cera could learn a thing or 2 here.

I went to the beach. I got burnt to a crisp (and yes I did apply sunscreen). I had sand blown into my eyes (partly from the wind, and partly from some douche who was flying this enormous kite and couldn't control it for s**t). I rode 5 miles on a bike, when the bike stand / lever broke, and I had to walk it 2 miles up a hill. So a fun weekend, yes.

Garland's a consistent 200 inning pitcher, that will give you good solid innings though. That's why it's so important that; 1 - Jose Contreras is better. Doesn't have to be below 4 ERA better, but somewhere around a 4.50 ERA who can log 200 innings will do me. 2 - One of Danks or Floyd takes the next step, and can pitch at least 160 - 180 innings. If that happens, then we won't feel the loss of Garland as badly. If it doesn't happen though, we'll feel the pinch big time. That's why it all comes down to those 3 guys to me. The offense will be better and so will the pen. It's the back end of the rotation that will determine if the Sox can make a small leap or a big leap up in the standings this year.

Wasserman and MacDougal should be fighting for at least 1 spot. And then you've got Masset who could fighting for a spot also (possibly the same one). And Mac and Ehren both have options left, while Masset does not.

I'm sure he'll be working as Danny Ainge's lackey next season anyways. But hey, Latrell "I can't feed my family!!!" Spreewell is still out there, (although I heard he's now bankrupt).

Carter for Marbury I could actually see, and it's been mooted in the NY papers. New Jersey gets a massive contract off the books next off-season, and it'll be a prime player in the Wade / Melo / LBJ Free Agency period. For NY, well I guess they dump a cancer in Marbury, but they still desperately need a PASS FIRST PG. As for the Minny trade proposal, how about Minny gets a 1st from NJ, and on trades that to the Celtics, for I dunno, Leon Powe. And then everyone's happy!

That's good news on Seabrook, he has really developed nicely, and has turned into one of our better 1st round picks over the past decade. Good to hear on Barker as well, sounds as if he is progressing from where he was when he was 1st up, being too tentative and all. How much are we spending in the cap now after the Seabrook signing FWIW?
-
Although also, I could see Kevin McHale maybe trying a Walker + Theo Ratliff deal or something (only because McHale is the worst GM in the NBA today).
-
Carter for Jermaine O'Neal is pretty much the only deal I've heard rumored, and that should show what Carter's value around the league is. He's just in his 30's IIRC, only shoots around 40-45% from the field, and his knees are shot. The only places I could see him in are New York or Indiana. Now Jefferson is a different story, he should still have some good value although he doesn't rebound much. He'd be good on a team that plays an uptempo style, someone like the Hornets for instance.

I never really knew how tiny Pat Kane was until I saw that photo with him next to his teammates.

Upset SoxFan1 about this I see. I don't know a whole lot about the situation, but I heard Serbia's government weren't too happy about it on the news this morning.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 09:18 AM) Carolina could be a very possible target for Lang with Rod Brind'Amour out for the year. There are a ton of teams that could use a solid #2 center. Oh, and there is a rumor about a Havlat-Gionta swap, which IMO sounds too good to be true. What's Gionta's contract look like and his numbers on the season? Lang for Carolina 1st or 2nd rounder would be a good deal, if you're going to sign Forsberg. It's a risky scenario, but one that could really pay off (if Peter's gimpy ankles can stay healthy).
-
Someone's going to try and eat that cupcake next year as well. Just you wait and see.
-
So that's 3 in a row, and we're 6 points back of 8th place in the West. If this team stays healthy, the playoffs are a definite possibility. DT could be back to being a buyer at the deadline. As for Forsberg, the only justification I can see making that deal, is if you traded Robert Lang at the deadline. Because if you keep both, we're probably not going to be able to sign either Dan Boyle or Brian Campbell in the off-season, and I don't want that scenario to occur.

QUOTE(shipps @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) I find myself building it up to people so I dont seem wierd for being on it so much.Like I will say" I can talk to sox fans all over the world at all times, and I can talk to them about anything knowing we have a common interest with the sox".And I back up the world part with DBAHO so Iam not lieing, but then I end up sounding wierd anyways so now I just tell people Iam looking at porn. Well I do my best. It was bit harder for me to tell my high school buddies that I had 20,000 posts on a baseball message board mind you.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 12:08 PM) I don't see an ERA over 6, not when he's pitching in the dome Well he probably won't in his home splits. But when he's pitching against the likes of the Sox as the Cell, he could get lit up, badly, which is of course what we're all hoping for. Don't forget, he had an ERA above 5 for Washington, in more of a pitchers park than the Dome, and in the NL to boot.
-
Well Livan had a 5.34 ERA for Washington pitching in a real big pitchers park in the NL. Is anyone going to trade for him if he has an ERA over 6, just because he is a veteran who can log innings? Because that's the most likely scenario I see occuring here.
-
Just terrible. This just happens WAY too often over there. Hopefully everyone from Soxtalk who goes there is ok.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Saves the mileage on some of their young arms. And teams are always looking for an innings down the stretch, even if it's just to be a 5th starter or a long reliever. I actually really like this move for the Twins; Livan is going to start 30+ games for them, throw 200+ innings, and if everything pans out right for them, he'll net them a prospect come deadline time. Not that it's like an earth shattering move by any stretch of the imagination, but a lot is probably going to have to go right for the Twins to compete this year anyways. May as well bring in a guy who is as much of a guarantee as any to throw 200 innings for you. Honestly, what kind of hitter or reliever are you going to get for $5 mill on a 1 year deal right now? Probably a pretty terrible one, if anything, and the Twins scouting/developing is so good that they don't have to go spend a ton on their top draft pick. I do figure he's probably 2-4 years older than his listed age...pitchers don't burst onto the scene at 22 and then fall off the map at 31-32. That's a pretty meaningless point on a 1-year deal though. Maybe it's part of their 3 year plan or something. Trade Nathan now for some very nice prospects, waste this season, get your young SP's feet wet next season, and then be ready to contend in 2010. And yeah Livan will eat innings for them, he's extremely durable, the thing is, most of those innings just won't be very productive for the Twins. And no you can't really get much on the FA market right now, but that $5M could have been used earlier (maybe to make more of an effort to keep Torii Hunter, I dunno). I'll be surprised if anyone trades for him at the deadline though, he'd have to produce pretty well for that to happen, and I don't see that occuring.
-
And yes I would certainly take Roberts. But what could we offer? Uribe + Richar + Shelby + Macdougal? You'd think a team such as the Cubs would be able to beat that offer. But Roberts makes perfect sense for the team in terms of a leadoff hitter. Although I think people will be surprised with what Richar can produce offensively this season.
-
Ideally, I'd dump Uribe, and use that $4.5M on the draft and some Latin American signings to re-stock the minor league system. I don't really see that Sox using that money that way though. Would be very pleasant if they did, but I won't hold my breath. There's just no way I can justify having a sub-par utility man, who's coming off his worst defensive season for some time, and continues to post a sub .300 OBP, and won't take any advice in regards to his swing, to keep him and pay him 4.5M. But really KW shouldn't have made the move in the 1st place.
-
The bad thing is, doesn't Adams have a guaranteed contract for next season as well?
-
Portland's probably going to miss out now. The Rockets have got their act together under Adelman, I think they'll make it. I'd say either Denver or Golden State to miss, but it'll be very, very close. Just unfair how one of those teams would be a top seed in the East.
