    Ok so the N.Y Daily News is onto it; So that would be Sanchez and / or Heilman I am assuming (like I said earlier). EDIT: Would help if I read the whole article now;

    Vazquez

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) I think that's about right. Vazquez at those numbers, locked up for three yrs [with him being arb. eligible in 2008 then he could be a free agent], would be decent for a team in need of an innings eater. He has value, esp. if you consider he'd be like signing a free agent. And judging at what other SP's have gotten-like Loaiza and his 3 yr deal for $8 mill per-Javy isn't that bad. Especially when there's really nothing wrong physically with Javy, it's all mental which is certainly fixable, it's just going to take time.
  3. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) uh oh, dbaho is caught up on a player. It's actually quite a list I'm accumulating. Hoping to get it into double digits by the end of the year.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) I agree with you. Yes, the Reds paid a steep price but they went from having a horrid bullpen to a very solid solid in a weeks time. They just added Guardado to close, and these two guys from the Nats will probably be setup men from each side. Clayton will tighten up that defense, which makes every pitcher they have just a little better. Krivsky's obviously realized, we're not going to make the playoffs with the pen that we had. It's kind of an interesting situation really. You think with the players they have ready to fill in like Denforia, that in the short - term, it'll definitely give a boost to their playoff aspirations. But then you also think in the long - term it will hurt them, because Lopez and Kearns are 2 excellent young everyday players. But then Majewski and Bray are both young themselves, and they should be around in Cincinatti for a few seasons to come at least. Ryan Wagner could be the deal breaker here. If he can find his comfort zone again, and Washington have done an excellent job with bullpen guys like Rauch and Majewski who haven't really had success before, it should push the trade in their favor, which it probably already is. If Bowden plays his cards right, if they can't sign Soriano to a long - term deal, trade him for a deal including Phillip Hughes, or some other stud prospects from another team.
  5. Could be interesting for him down there. The Padres are making some changes with their bullpen with Cassidy (go after him KW) demoted to AAA despite having an ERA of around 2.82 IIRC.
  6. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:44 PM) Really, you're only reinforcing my point. Is it that bad in our system that what I have to look forward to is a light hitting OF and a power lefty unable to miss bats? Someone, anyone, tell me what to look forward to? It's honestly enough to vomit over my keyboard. Flash I have a question for you, or you could call it a task. I'd like you to look at the 28 other teams in Major League Baseball (besides your beloved farm system of the Twins containing such favorites as Matt Garza and Glen Perkins), and have a look at their farm system. Do they have the possible high impact players you are looking for? But then, have a look at how that team is doing in the majors this season. But then also look at the prospects we had in our system, like Gio Gonzalez who could be the Phillies top prospect right now, and how he was traded to help our team NOW.
  7. DBAHO

    Vazquez

Wasn't Omar Minaya really interested in him as well, and he likes him quite a lot IIRC. But of course it would depend on what they gave up. Pelfrey and Milledge are pipe dreams. Guys like Sanchez and Heilman may not be. Of course it's highly unlikely Vaz would be moved anyway.
  8. After seeing Houston trade for Huff, I can't really see them as sellers at the deadline, so the likes of Qualls will probably be staying put. QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:35 PM) I would be all for bringing Hunter in. We can't afford anderson batting close to .150 in the postseason. Can you imagine bases Juiced with anderson coming up? We would all not want to watch. Hunter is not a downgrade on D and a HUGE upgrade on Offense. I would trust him more in clutch situations. There may be a period where our offense goes cold in September/October ( like 2000, 2003) and we have to rely on players like anderson. I would rather rely on Hunter. If this is the difference between winning it all or falling short. I am all for making the move. and the money part. Who cares? Is it our money? I would not be surprised to see ownership pay an extra 10 million to have a better shot at a dynasty. It would be a business move. That's what the Whte Sox chairmen and board of directors do first, business. BA has an .840 OPS so far this month, and has hit about .238 since June, that number slowly increasing with each game. Hunter's total OPS is .787 so far this season, a figure that has slowly decreased since the 2004 season. I wouldn't call him a huge upgrade on offense, and it's certainly not worth the prospects you'd have to give up to make such a move.
  9. You also have to realize those relievers aren't going to have the same ERA for the Reds as they're moving from a real pitcher's park at RFK to a real hitter's park at the Great American Ballpark. Will be interesting to see how they adjust to that.
  10. Could Liotta be possibly injured in some sort of way? Really hard to explain how that ERA has really gone up especially after he had a fairly good start to the season. Nice to see someone from the Warthog rotation get a call up though, they've performed well all season. Hopefully Russell can make the most of it.
  11. Classic trade of overpaying for a need and giving up the best players in the deal to do so. I suppose if there's 1 saving grace for Krivsky, Majewski and Bray are still both young and should be able to contribute for a few years. Will be interesting to see how Denforia does in the majors finally as well.
  12. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) With all due respect, why do you assume Anderson has a higher ceiling than Rowand. Because Hawk tells us he does? Because Kenny Williams tells us he does? Because he had a decent year in the minors in 2005? Road sides from here to Cooperstown are strewn with the corpses of failed young players that baseball GM's have assured would be impact players. What makes you think Anderson won't join them? I'm willing to concede that the real Brian Anderson might not be a .192 hitter. But I'm also willing to concede that he may be. Because Anderson has shown in the last month what he's capable with the bat, plus he's better defensively than Rowand, and he projects to be a similar player to say a Torii Hunter in his prime. You have to remember with young players, they're not going to produce instantly like Jeff Francouer did.
  13. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) Fair enough, but that doesn't excuse the fact that we can obviously upgrade at least 3 aspects of the defiencies internally by platooning podsednik with ozuna. The defense is probably a wash, Ozuna is clearly a better bunter, he's faster, and he's got better overall offensive numbers. Starting pitching is a whole 'nother thread anyway. I don't expect Ozuna's high numbers to continue in the 2nd half of this season, but that's JMHO.

    Soxtalk

Your favorite Aussie didn't even get a mention now.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) Vazquez to the Phils? Their SP is the worst in the NL. And their bullpen is 3rd best. Ryan Madson would be solid--young and cheap. Though the sox might have to add an arm or take on salary Whether it's trading prospects or major leaguers, the sox have been good judges of their own talent. I trust the sox to make the right choice come the deadline I don't think Gillick would take a chance on Vazquez when he's not performing well, and the ballpark he'd be pitching in would be even worse than what he has to face right now. Madson is an interesting option. The Phils have a fairly good pen, but I think Arthur Rhodes is probably more attainable although he's struggled as of late. Just think Gillick is going to start from scratch again, trade some of the big names, and rebuild that team from top to bottom, because it's obvious what they have now isn't working at all, and hasn't for quite a while.

    LA Angels

Stoneman may just very well decide, with the price likely to be so high for the likes of Abreu and Soriano, to ride it out with the likes of Anderson and Morales and just hope they improve in the 2nd half. Suddenly though, their rotation looks real good, with Weaver, Lackey and Santana performing well, Colon's back off the DL, and Escobar doing a solid job as well.
  17. Looking at both organizations, a Broadway and possible fringe prospect for Gordon probably makes the most sense. Broadway should be our main trading chip at the deadline. Despite the thoughts of some here on ST, SP is actually our most stocked position in the minors. Losing Broadway wouldn't hurt at all to win now when you've got the likes of Lumsden, Harrell etc. performing well. Philly needs good young arms. Looking at their current rotation, Jon Lieber and Corey Lidle probably won't be back. They've got Scott Mathieson and Gio Gonzalez in the minors, but not much else besides Gavin Floyd who's been struggling. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) I'm not that concerned about Javy myself. But Ozzie, Coop and Kenny may be. They may decide BMac could make the adjustment to the rotation better than Javy improving, while adding pieces elsewhere [bullpen, prospects] by trading Javy This is the quandry right here, and the million dollar question for our GM right here. Do you want to trade prospects right now to improve this ballclub, and hope Javy gets it together (which looking at the case of Contreras could very well happen), or do you want to trade Javy now and move B-Mac into the rotation? There's pro's and con's for each side of the argument.
  18. I find it hard to believe that the Reds would trade one of their best starters, when the main weakness on that team is pitching. By trading Griffey, they can open up a spot for Denforia and save a lot of $$$$ which they can then put into some more pitching from FA. I have a feeling Carl Pavano could possibly be involved, if the Yanks paid some of his deal.
  19. Yikes for McCullough and that Great Falls D. Nice performance by Egbert tonight, and good to see Cunny have a good game.
  20. Bristol Sox Pos: SP DoB: (He's 19) Ht: Wt: Bats: R Throws: R Jose was signed out of Mexico this season. He's started in Bristol so far. In 6 games, with 1GS, he's 1-0 with a 1.76 ERA and a 15/2 K/BB ratio in 15.1IP. Opposing hitters are only hitting .207 off of him. In his last start, Zazueta went 8IP with 7H, 3ER, 1BB and 7K's.
  21. Remember that Yawney thinks that Ruutu's best position is on the wing and not at center. Will be interesting to see if this stops Ruutu from being the #1 center. What's our situation like cap - wise now? If we get a Carter or Samsonov for about 3-4M, how much will that put us back?
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) How the hell does that make sense for the Sox? So, the Sox give up their third best SP (as of right now, if you don't include B-Mac), a 3B who will probably be a top prospect after putting up a 1.000 OPS, for two relievers and a decent but not great SP prospect? Sheesh... everyone wants to trade for these big name relievers while giving up Fields/Sweeney/Broadway. Look at the bullpen right now, look how they were acquired. McCarthy - homegrown. Jenks - Waiver pickup. Cotts - A PTBNL in the Koch deal. Politte - Cheap FA signing that didn't require coughing up a pick. Riske - Traded for Javy Lopez. Thorton - Traded for Borchard. Hmm, I'm sensing a trend here. Well I look at it from the point of view that you save a ton of salary in this deal. We're probably not getting enough back in a deal like that actually, so we could ask for another top prospect. You can then use that cap-space in the FA market again. But it's each to their own, you are definitely right in saying KW has made some great acquisitions for the pen through unheralded FA pickups and trades. Realistically, Fields is going to play 3B for us for a quite a long time (especially if Crede signs here long - term). Fields value is at an all time high, and if they're not going to move him to LF............
  23. Question, how in the hell is Dwight Howard NOT in the top 5? Yao Ming!? http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/060707 FWIW Kirk Hinrich was #28.
  24. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:07 PM) I would like a young affordable lights out reliever like Linebrink as well. It's just that no team will get rid of those guys. Guys like Cotts, Scot Shields, etc are invaluable to a club. The sox are finding that out with Politte this year. Without that stellar RH set up guy, it taxes the bullpen and the rest of the pitching staff to no ends. And it leaves the sox with no room for error on defense and offense. IMO, the sox should stick with the pitching and defense. The offense has slugged it's way to a great 1st half. But the improved starting pitching and bullpen that can keep a lead in 1 run games will carry the sox to the playoffs year in and year out. The sox should keep all their top pitching prospects, like Broadway, Lumsden etc. Dependable starting pitching is always at a premium. You'd think so with the Padres. But they did trade Otsuka to the Rangers, and you would have thought he was pretty untouchable there after the 1st 2 seasons he had for the Pads. They have a HUGE weakness at 3rd base, with the lowest OPS there of any team in the majors. I think if you offered Garland along with Fields (San Diego doesn't have any backups starters besides Carillo in the minors, and Park's deal finishes at the end of the season), you may have something. Gordon should come cheaper because of his contract. But that doesn't mean Gillick is just going to give him up, because he knows how important pitching is, plus the Phillies don't exactly have someone who can take over as the closer right now. I would still like to trade a starter to open up a spot for B-MAc, yet get some good SP prospects in return. San Diego is a team you could possibly do that with, Los Angeles another.
