ESPN Report: Kenny Looking at Scott Linebrink
DBAHO replied to SadChiSoxFanOptimist's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frankly I think the whole switching leagues thing and your ERA will jump is a bit overrated. Scott Linebrink is one of the PREMIER set-up pitchers in all of baseball. He's only what 31 IIRC, so if you traded for him and get him locked up, he should be able to produce over that period of time. His numbers are very good from the past couple of seasons. Antoni Otuska left San Diego, switched teams and league to Texas, and he seems to be doing just fine. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Josh Fields will not step in and take over 3b for Castilla and Bellhorn. What 1st place team wants to take a huge risk to put a rookie out there? They'll want a vet. Atlanta and Jeff Francouer comes to mind. -

Maybe a team like Seattle would be interested in Cameron, and the Sox could then on trade him for some pitching prospects or more bullpen help? -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) I can't see a first place team making that trade for a 3rd baseman with zero major league ABs. I am a fan of dealing Fields however. I think its far more likely he turns out like Joe Borchard than Joe Crede. Well you have to look at what Vinny Castilla has done for them at 3B so far this season, he has a sub .600 OPS IIRC, and they don't really have anyone to replace him at this point. So I can definitely see them being interested in Fields, who would fit at Petco because he's a RHH. And he'll be a building block for that offense, because a main problem for them is that they struggle to score runs. Probably a good move by KW to move him while his value is at the highest it has been, if it's what's going to happen. Also Jason, the Sox may be interested in Cesar Carillo possibly, although he's injured ATM. He's got the stuff someone like Flash would like though. -

Josh Fields is involved if its the case. You can book it. Linebrink would be a FANTASTIC get for the pen, he's been extremely consistent over the past few seasons. -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 08:21 AM) Shockingly the Mets werent into the can we have one of your best relievers and one of your best young arms for our pile of poo. Then again maybe they remember the entire Kazmir debacle. Pelfry and Sanchez for Garcia would get KW a book deal ala Billy Beane. Pelfrey could almost be better than Garcia right now anyway, the way he is dominating AA. Was never going to happen, and Minaya would be insane to give up his best pitching prospect right now. If we ask for Phillip Humber instead though.............

JR Smith shipped to Den. for picks and Eisley

J.R's stock is pretty much shot around the league thanks to Byron Scott. Will be interesting to see if he can fit in with George Karl. And I doubt J.R would have wanted to be a bench player for the Bulls. He believes he can start in this league, and will get the chance to do so for the Nugs. -
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Anyone maybe think we could get them to take Garcia and possibly Montero for Duaner and Humber back? KW supposedly wants a young starter or starter prospect coming back as well. I guess it depends on how much kenny wants to keep Javy. Because I think that Minyana would do the deal with Vazquez- he has liked him as much as Kenny. The question is whther Kenny is willing to move him. Now Humber could be a guy I could see the Mets trading instead of Milledge or Pelfrey. How's he doing in the minors this season. I think he had an arm injury for quite a while, IIRC.

We've done a great job so far this season at hitting with RISP. Just hasn't been the case lately. I'm sure this is only an aberration and nothing to be horribly concerned about.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) According to minor league splits (their stats through 7/7, I added his last two outings) he has a 120:88 ratio with a 5:1 ratio in yesterday's game. Worth noting that he had a 21:20 ratio in April, 39:29 in May, 42:26 in June, and 18:13 so far in July. He has definitely improved as the year has gone on. Yeah he's definitely making his way up in terms of the Sox's SP prospects.

Too bad they had to sign Erubiel Durazo to a MLC a few days back. Man if he gets back to the form he had for Oakland a few seasons back, well the Twins are going to be good. Very good.

QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) I, for one, am hoping that the Giants stay in it. We don't need KW overpaying for a few months of Schmidt, especially if any deal includes either BMac or BA. Yep I don't want BA or B-Mac anyway involved in any trades whatsoever. Now if it was for Garcia and a prospect or two..............
-
Hmmm, from the N.Y Post; And then the Daily Herald is reporting the B-Mac and BA for Schmidt rumor.

I really miss being in Phoenix at this time of year, when I have to put up with 30-40 degree temp's in the winter down here, compared to the 100+ days of summer up there (in case you can't tell, I like the heat).
-
Sounds easier than my computer problem. When I turned my on computer, my screen lit up to say it was on, but nothing appeared at all on the screen, while the hard disk continually kept loading. Then I could not even reset the computer or turn it off at all. Doesn't sound promising.

Someone in the NL with a pitcher's park e.g Los Angeles, San Diego I think will end up trading for Freddy. Garcia's shown he can still be dominant, just not against high quality hitting teams in the A.L.
-
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) Well, if we gave them Politte, Tracey, and another AAA pitcher that could be a reliever for them, would they do it to also acquire that #1 pitcher they've been needing. Arroyo has done well, but he's no #1. Plus, can you really count on him to keep going at the pace he is the rest of the year? I don't think so. This year, stats-wise, Freddy is no #1, but you could consider him that in years past, which might be intriguing enough for the Reds to do it. Well I think Politte is pretty much done at this point, Tracey has proven nothing but to be wild at the major league level, and some other SP's like Aaron Harang and Elizardo Ramirez have done a good job for them. Considering how much Freddy gives up the long ball and that the GAB is a big hitters park, not really a great fit there either.
-
Will be interesting to see what happens. Maybe even someone like Marcelo Lippi (would probably please Dan and Jason).
-
QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) I think a trade of Freddy, Politte, and maybe a minor leaguer like Sean Tracey for, say, Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, plus minor leaguers Homer Bailey (SP) and Jay Bruce (OF) would get the job done. Don't think Krivsky would give up Bray and Majewski when the bullpen has been the weakest link for the Reds so far this season.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) If the sox are looking for a prospect ready to join the rotation in 2008 [someone the caliber of the 5 SP's we have now], that guy must be tearing up AA now. Few teams are going to give up a lights out set up man/ closer and a stud prospect. Yeah it would be hard to find a match. The only team I could really think of off the top my head was Texas. Jon Daniels in his 1st year as GM could be aggressive enough to go for it. They've got 4 good SP prospects in Eric Hurley (3.87 ERA at high A with 100/30 K/BB ratio), Edinson Volquez (3.32 ERA at AAA with 107/63 K/BB ratio), John Danks (combined 4.23 ERA at high A and AA with 101/32 K/BB ratio) and Thomas Diamond (3.90 ERA at AA with 115/57 K/BB ratio). So they've got enough SP prospects there, that Daniels could move one to upgrade the ballclub now. As for the piece in their pen, maybe a Cordero (though has an expensive option for next season, so probably would need to re-negotiate contract) or a Rick Bauer (3.14 ERA) or Ron Mahay (3.46 ERA).
-
Ken Rosenthal said this in his trade notes today; So if it's a starter dealt, looks like Freddy's the guy.
-
Let's hope Sean's stay with the White Sox is a bit longer than his 1st time around. I expect now though KW to be on the hunt for another reliever to acquire in the David Riske mold.

The vultures of Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal and Real Madrid are circling in. Roman Abramovich wants Allesandro Nesta AND / OR Fabio Cannavaro despite the fact they already have Terry, Gallas, Carvelio just to name a few as their central defenders.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 05:31 AM) I wub Bolton. Too bad 99% of England and myself don't.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) I disagree where you say the only stat that matters though is wins. Ask Kevin Millwood about that last season.

Looks like Lumsden was the victim of some bad D, B-Ham has 3 errors so far tonight.
