Could Kenny make a huge deal?
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) Back on topic, having listened to the interview, Bruce Levine said something stupid about Kenny coming back on the air after having aquired three different players (I forget who they even were) and Kenny sarcastically answered, "no it will be bigger than that", Levine didn't get the joke and said wow who could be bigger than that? Then he mentioned Soriano, but KW had already hung up the phone. Remember because of tampering KW can't comment on a specific player anyways, so this rumor should have been a non-starter just by common sense. Now if you all will follow along with me at home, you will see the most obvious intent with this rumor is that Kenny is trying to get Detroit to overpay for a few months of Soriano. I really don't think we have much interest in the guy, as I don't think we are interested in bringing him in as a rental. We know that Washington want some major pitching prospects for Soriano, because the Nats system is just absolutely bare of that right now. If KW forces Detroit to have to give up the likes of Humberto Sanchez, Zach Miner and Jair Jurrjens, well then he's done his job. Looks like Seattle really wants him as well though, although they are apparently offering a deal built around Adam Jones the CF, who will be a good one, but he is struggling in the majors right now ALA the early 2006 version of Brian Anderson.

Widger Reaction
I guess it's just the way things go. I respect the job Widge did on this team last season, hitting lefties well, having a good CERA, and just providing a good clubhouse influence. He was certainly an upgrade over the likes of Ben Davis who we have seen before. But this season he just didn't get the job done. And with Politte and Widge gone now, 2 veterans, hopefully it is sending a message to the other 25 guys, it doesn't matter what your standing or reputation maybe, you have to perform, period.

Duaner Sanchez
Heilman and Humber peoples. That's the most realistic deal I've heard on this board for the past week, and I'd love to get it done especially for Garcia. Hopefully Minaya takes the bait.

sox in run for soriano
Yeah Soriano has always had great stuff but he's never been able to stay healthy. I suppose it's just too much of a risk to acquire him, especially for the players you'd have to give up to do so.

7/23 Games
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:46 AM) Wes has that era under 3 now. He's definitely come a long way so far this year. Ever since Jim said he was quickman's favorite prospect, he's been great. Go figure.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) Hey DBAH0, looks like Newcastles going after your boy Dean Ashton and Chelsea just keeps buying people, Ashley Cole now. Our manager Alan Pardew and even Ashton himself have said that he won't be going anywhere. Plus I think we'll finish higher than Newcastle this season anyway. Call it the Glenn Roeder curse. And it's not like we need to sell him anyway.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) Cunningham is looking like a nice prospect. Obviously has work to do with the strikeouts, but good power, decent speed, decent eye. He has a chance to be a good one. Yeah he does, and I think he's just about ready for high A ball. He was a good pick back in the 7th round in last year's draft. One of our better finds.

Slumpbusters
Uhhh I can get Chicken Pox again. We won the World Series doing that.

sox in run for soriano
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Rosenthal seemed to suggest that the mariners were the most aggressive in pursuing Soriano. A three way with some bullpen help--Mateo, Rafael Soriano-- coming the sox way? Phil Rogers said this in his latest piece;

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) Yeah this isnt close to the Maurice Clarett situation considering he wanted to get in the NFL early and than signed a contract and was cut. I still can't get over the fact the Broncos actually wasted a 3rd rounder on him.

Floyd Landis tests positive for testosterone
Yeah that was one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen in sport period. He looked absolutely spent the day before, and it was quite funny, the leaders thought he wouldn't contain it for the whole race, and toward the end when he did they're like "Oh spiff we've got to try and catch up here".

Catch-All Anything Thread
I love going to the footy, and actually seeing your team win a close game for once. But don't go with 2 girls next to you who just won't shut up for the whole day.

sox in run for soriano
The only way I want BA involved is if Ryan Church is coming back the other way in the deal. And I do not want to trade B-Mac for a 2 month rental (the only way I would trade for Soriano was if you could get him locked up to a long - term deal, and even that is a big risk in itself). Would the Nats be interested in Fields, even though they have Ryan Zimmerman at 3B? They could always move him to LF I suppose. And prospects like Lucas Harrell and Lance Broadway would probably interest Bowden I would say. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) I don't want Soriano, we need pitching. If we could spin vazquez or garcia for Gordon or for sanchez/heilman that would be great. It would be even better if we could also get a guy like Phillip Humber from NY. Yeah Garcia for Heilman and Humber is the most realistic deal I've heard, and it's the one I most want to happen. Hopefully it goes down.

Sox v. Rangers, Gamethread
Was just absolutely huge for Freddy to come out with an outing like that, not only for himself, but for this team. Let's bring Juan in.

Derrick Turnbow
Really weird to see what has happened to him. He better hope for his sake someone like Matt Wise doesn't fill in and do such a great job that Turnbow can't get his job back.

Shea Hillebrand
QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Agree. Giants made out like robbers, I thought they would get a pretty good prospect in return. Well Hillenbrand's value was pretty much shot. If they moved him earlier in the season, they could have at least gotten Adam Kennedy back for him probably.

Jason Stark on Javier Vazquez/Freddy Garcia
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) I'd ask for Humber as well. Pelfrey's the Mets new stud. BTW, Humber's done well in his first 5 starts back. I think if Minaya gets desperate enough at the deadline, a Heilman and Humber deal could certainly be possible. It will ultimately depend on a number of factors though, including how the current Mets SP's do, and whether Minaya can get Livan or Miguel Batista cheaper. And Humber would be a top SP in our system, and he throws pretty hard IIRC.

The Official, "What I did today thread"
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) Seriously, how awesome is that game??? I'm obsessed. I still remember playing Fifa 98, and I loved that game because it had an indoor soccer stadium, with walls so you could lob the balls off the walls and play all sort of crazy angles, plus each team only had 5 a side.

7/21 Games
Yeah Liotta had 6 shutout innings until the last. Nice to see him finally have a good outing.
-
Shea Hillebrand
Along with Vinnie Chulk for Jeremy Accardo; Giants did very well here IMHO. They're going for is this season it looks like, seeing how it may be Bonds last season with the Giants, and possibly Schmidt's as well.

Are 5.5 games surmountable?
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 12:44 AM) No. Just get there. That's all I care about. My thoughts exactly. I don't care how you get there, because it's what you do once you get there that makes all of the difference. So if we end up with a wild card spot, I'll be happy we made the playoffs, and then we can see what happens from there.

And thats a Sox Loser.
Cora likes to put the pressure on opposing OF defenders by forcing the issue more often than not. He's not as bad as Waving Wally, but most of his decisions regarding our slower base runners like Kong and A.J tonight have not paid off. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) We seem so slow on the field. One of the most underrated downfalls of this team right now is the throwing arms of our outfielders. It's unbelievable that we haven't thrown out a guy at home all season. Cora has got to show more patience with our slow runners, and especially when we're trailing by more than one run. Dye and BA have got 2 of the better OF arms for the position in all of the majors. How that stat can be I don't know, but it's not because those 2 don't have the talent. Podsednik on the other hand, well yeah we know about his arm.
