  1. We've been spoiled by this team for the past year and a half. And it looks like our fans are saying thanks.
  2. QUOTE(beautox @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:18 PM) God Bless KW and Lopez for making this happen, Riske even though he looks like a hobo is SOOOO good, hes only 28 after this year provided he stays healthy i hope we sign him long term. Lopez has a 4.26 ERA in 9 appearances so far for the Red Sox. I think it's pretty safe to say who won that deal, and hopefully KW keeps pulling many more of em.
  3. QUOTE(TLAK @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Kevin Millar on MLB.com: "The sinker was down pat, sinker after sinker after sinker," added Millar of Garland's mound prowess. "It was like he was throwing bowling balls." Best quote I've seen in a while. That's a VERY promising thing to hear. We need Jon's sinker to continue to be like that.
  4. Maybe a team like Cincinatti who is desperate for someone with closer's experience could have a small interest in Hermanson or even Politte. If you could give up either and get someone like Ryan Wagner or Chris Denforia, I would be very happy with that.
  5. It's almost up to $1.50 a litre down here. Only about 5 years back, you could probably get it for about half that price.
  6. Harrell's definitely ready for double A, maybe Whisler and Egbert as well. Maybe Liotta could go back to W-S for a little while to get his confidence back?
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 06:20 PM) Chuck Lamar was the retard who basically refused to deal any of his players. Yes, that Kazmir trade was brilliant but imo the Drays could be in such better shape if he didn't ask the world for his guys. He's gone though, so lets see what TB does at the deadline this year. Yeah since Gerry Hunsicker and Andrew Fredricksen took over, the D-Rays have made more good moves than not on the trade front. Getting Howell and Navarro for Gathright, Hendrickson and Hall are 2 such examples. They'll probably trade Huff at the deadline, and I'd imagine with the problems Young and Dukes have had discipline wise, they'll hang onto Crawford unless they're wowed by an offer.
  8. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Hypothetically, the Sox are in the World Series right now. Do you want Jon Garland pitching in any of those games? If it's me, I go to Buehrle, Contreras and Garcia only. Sure, Garland had a hell of a post-season last year, but he also had a hell of a regular season. There are such things as one year wonders. Remember Josh Beckett? I wouldn't call Beckett a 1 year wonder; 2003 - 9-8, 3.04 ERA, 152/56 K/BB ratio. 2004 - 9-9, 3.79 ERA, 152/54 K/BB ratio. 2005 - 15-8, 3.38 ERA, 166/58 K/BB ratio.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 04:46 PM) A pitcher's record is more indicative of his the run support he's receiving and the general quality of his team's offense than the quality of his pitching. Eventually that luck runs out and his 5 ER, 9 H performances are going to lead to losses in big games. Well we have been lucky Jon was getting good run support in the 1st couple of months when he wasn't performing to the standards we know he can. And now as his last few performances have shown, he doesn't need 6 or 7 runs to help him pick up the win, although it doesn't hurt at all. Let's hope he continues what he has produced lately, by keeping the ball in the park, not walking hitters, and getting those groundball outs.

    QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) About eight years ago or so my buddies and I would play Goldeneye for hours on end. Gotta have 'paintball' mode on, though. That, and the WCW/NWO Revenge series. Those wrestling games were the best. Ahh, those were the days... Yeah those 2 games were great in the old N64 days. Nothing like Goldeneye on Multiplayer.
  11. I always had confidence Jon would improve as the season wore on. The big key for him as has been stated has been him not giving up the long ball, it's such a key for him, since opposing hitters put a lot of balls in play against them as he's not a high K guy. Hopefully that ERA can get down to around to the 4.5 mark by season's end.
  12. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 11:13 PM) So you only have respect for teams that make the playoffs? No one picked the Tigers to be where they are. How can you not respect what they have accomplished so far, whether they wind up playing .300 baseball the rest of the way of if they make the playoffs? So you typically only respect the Yankees and Red Sox since they make the playoffs each year? I have a lot of respect for the Royals team that came out of nowhere a couple years ago even though they didn't make the playoffs. It's good to see a perennial loser prove the critics wrong. Well I suppose I look at it from the point of view that they have chronically underachieved for the past few years, so what they're doing now has suprised a lot of people. But they do have quite a big payroll, so they're sorta unlike the Royals from a few seasons back. I respect low market teams that have beaten the odds and performed well. A team like Florida if they can have a .500 record at the end of the season considering the players they have will have earnt my respect. I hate the Yankees and Red Sox more so than I do the Cubs and Twins, although recently the latter has been taken over by Detroit in the minds of Sox fans. That's why I love the salary cap in other sports like the NFL and the NBA etc. which makes it a far more fairer marketplace for all teams but that's JMHO.
  13. Depressing for us Aussies thinking of what may have been seeing Italy make the final now. I'm tipping an upset and going with Portgual. Deco's back for them, and I think the likes of Ricardo Carvelhio can do the job on Henry.
  14. For some reason and don't ask me why, I've always liked Kidman and Edge.
  15. When they make the playoffs. Still got half a season left yet folks.
  16. A Happy Late Belated Birthday Wish to two of the best posters we have here on Soxtalk. Hope you guys had a good one.
  17. Yeah not good, not good at all. Let's just say the Aussies weren't too happy with the situation at all, and let the North Korean Diplomat to Australia know all about it.
  18. I was hoping my man Chris Snelling would get the call up, but unfortunately not. That guy can hit well when healthy.
  19. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) Good and prescient post there DBAH0! Nice when I'm actually right for once isn't it.
  20. Nice to see Brooks with a good outing. He's picked it up as of late down at Kanny, which he really needed to do after the start he had.
  21. It looks like the Chandler for Brown and Smith deal is going to go down. If I'm Otis Smith, I try to sell John Paxson the idea of doing a DeShawn Stevenson for J.R Smith sign and trade deal. Stevenson doesn't look like he's going to re-sign with the Magic and he wants $4-5M a season for about 4. The reason I suggest this and why I think it would make sense for the Bulls is because it would be beneficial for you to have a defensive stopper at SG, so you can let Ben Gordon become instant offense off the bench again. He's got the perfect size at 6'5 and I think it would make a lot of sense for both teams. Don't know if I could see Smith and Gordon co-existing on the same team when they both play the same position.
  22. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) I don't think 2 pitchers can carry a team through the season (they had one of Batista's good years, which helped a lot). The playoffs, maybe. But not the 80-odd games left, especially not in this division. 92-70 isn't gonna cut it in the AL this year. The bigger worry is that the Twins have those two, and then they have Radke, who will throw better the 2nd half. Then out of Silva and Bonser, you just gotta hit on one. I'm thinking, maybe just hoping, that they're far enough out to make the point moot. Radke's been very good for the past few starts, looks like he's turnin it around. I think Scott Baker will probably be back up for Bonser by the end of the season as well, although Gardy really never gave him a chance in the 1st place. The Twins do worry me quite a bit as well, but it is dependent on their offense. Can Morneau keep hittin like he has for the past 2 months? Can Bartlett continue to put up some good splits etc. As for us, I don't think anyone is kidding themselves that the starting pitching is not where we would like it to be right now. But it's not a hopeless situation that should all cause us to mass panic. All 5 starters at some point this season have shown they have what it takes to dominate and put up great performances. It's vitally important at the ASB, Coop sits down with each of em, points out what they need to do to improve (great list by SSI71), and hopefully they can do that. The good thing is, is that when it most counts, these guys have done the job before, and hopefully they can do it again.
  23. QUOTE($I Need Money$ @ Jul 4, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) f*** YEAH BULLS ARE GONNA WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR f*** YEAH!!!
  24. Where's our Tyler Lumsden?
  25. Doesn't Jones have a chronic shoulder condition or something like that?
