  1. QUOTE(zygoat @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) personally i would take jose vallentine over anyone, he would hit .200 and would field like my 7 year old sister, but damn those walk off's were fun Valentin's actually doing a pretty good job for the Mets as their 2nd baseman right now. Doubt he can keep his BA up where it is now for the rest of the season though. But the Pornstache lives on.
  2. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 09:22 AM) Whats your gut feeling about him? And have there been any other or better candidates for the position? If not, I'd probably go for it, if you had to make a decision here and now.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) FWIW, CSN interviewed Tallon and it seemed that he was most likely to pick Toews. Ok cool, doesn't really suprise me. This is what TSN.CA says about him (he's rated above Staal as the #2 prospect FWIW);

    Jenks

We're very lucky to have Bobby. He'd be borderline top 5. But thankfully for us, he's under our control for about another 4 and a half to 5 seasons, and he'll be cheap for the next couple.
  5. Really pleased with how the bullpen held up tonight. It showed how important getting David Riske was. Riske can pitch in the 8th for you, so you don't have to save that inning for a guy like Cotts. Instead Neal can come in and get you out of danger, like he did when he came in for Jose. It makes our bullpen a lot more effective if Ozzie uses the guys in the right situations.
  6. The draft kicks off tomorrow at 6 p.m in Vancouver. Currently the Hawks have the 3rd pick. It looks like the Blues are going to take Erik Johnson D, as the #1 pick, unless they trade down which looks unlikely at this stage. After the Luongo trade today, the big rumor going around now is of a trade b/w the Penguins and the Hurricanes. The Penguins would get Jack Johnson D, who was the #3 pick in last year's draft, for the #2 pick in this year's draft, and then Carolina would draft Jordan Staal C, Eric Staal's brother. Makes sense for both teams and I think that deal will get done. Pittsburgh have a HUGE need for defense, and they don't really need another forward as a huge need since they already have Crosby and Malkin. So Johnson and Staal are likely to be the top 2 picks. Then the Blackhawks pick 3rd. Can't see us drafting Kessel since supossedly him and Jack Skille the #7 pick in last year's draft don't get along with each other. So it should come down to either Jonathan Toews (pronounced TAYS) or Nicklas Backstrom from Sweden. They're both centers and fairly similar players. Backstrom played in the 2006 Worlds, so he could probably contribute straight away. He's only 6'0 though, but he's a solid 2 way player who's been compared to Forsberg. Toews is probably a little quicker and more of a leader who can also play wing. Considering Tallon's propensity for taking North American Players in the past drafts, I think we're going to end up with Toews. Backstrom would go 4th to Washington since they need a cneter to play with Ovechkin and Kessel would go 5th to Boston.
  7. I consider the Wave more of a Cricket / Soccer thing personally. But uh, carry on.
  8. A setback for my man Richard. He's been pitching well this season up to this point. Good to see Malone had a good outing.

    And I'm off

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 05:56 AM) I spent some time in Suzhou. Hopefully you will have a better time than I did. It was for work, and there is basically nothing edible. Too much smog also. Fatten up before you fly. Good luck. ^^^^^. I spent 5 weeks in Nanjing, Shanghai and Beijing about 6 years back. The food over there, is what you call Chinese - Chinese food. It's not really American - Chinese food, if you get my drift. And the pollution over there is terrible. You couldn't see the sun at all during the day when I was over there. Have a great time though.
  10. Chris Mullin is insane if he does that. Pietrus will THRIVE if he gets a starting spot somewhere. He's a guy I'd be willing Orlando trade their #11 pick for if they can't trade up for Rudy Gay.
  11. IMO Ecuador are a real chance to upset England tonight. England are going with a 4-5-1 formation, with Rooney up front. It's a lot to ask a guy who's not really match fit to lead the attack on his own. If Ecaudor can show the form they had in the 1st 2 games of the tournament, they'll definitely trouble England tomorrow night, and the Poms looked susceptible at the back in their last game against Sweden.
  12. Wow you think Houston is getting sick of Pods now or what.
  13. So Brown could end up in Charlotte now. And we've all been waiting for this day. Isiah Thomas to crash and burn in the mess he made.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:51 AM) Wait, did that guy get 3 cards? PK? WTF just happened? AUSSIES MOVE ON! HAHA. DBAH0 REJOICE! Just bring it Dan, just bring it. And yes Josip Simunic did get 3 yellow cards. It just shows how bad Graham Poll and English Premier League Refs are. And please Hiddink, do not let Kalac be our goalie against Italy. He's absolutely terrible. And I think we've got a decent chance against Italy, losing Emerton to 2 yellows will hurt though.
  15. I'm closing this, because it's done.
  16. Too bad you missed Keeley Hazell's Shoot before the World Cup.
  17. Question, if you had to give up the same for Ichiro or Crawford (which is actually possible mind you), who would you prefer?
  18. You make arguments for either, because they're both fantastic defensive CF's in their own right. For example Anderson would have a better arm, but Rowand probaby has the better range even if occasionally there is a question over his reads of the ball straight off the bat.
  19. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) My God... Can you say raking?! Jealous DBAH0? Always serving it up to me when it comes to our prospects don't you. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) Yes sir. Hopefully Jeckle's gonna watch him a bit over the next few months up there. Shelby could be another Aaron Cunningham mid round special here.
  20. He's causing me major frustration in my fantasy league, let me tell you. But I think he's too good of a hitter, and he'll turn it around. And he's got favorable factors for that to occur as well.
  21. So it looks like if we qualify, we'll probably be playing Italy or the Czech Republic in the next round, and you guys would be playing Brazil. Good luck with that.
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 05:36 AM) Sweet goal by Cole of England. Yeah it was. Lucky for England they have him to play left wing. If only he stayed at West Ham.
