Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) Pfft, please. Italy has been impressive in the other 2 games with 2-0 wins in both. Italy isn't losing to your Aussies, keep dreaming. That was against a Czech team without their main striker in Jan Koller, and Ghana in the 1st game. No doubt we're the underdogs though.

Javier Vazquez
Vaz has gotta improve no doubt. We've seen what he can do at his best, in some of his outings earlier in the season. Just needs to develop that conisistency, which we've seen before the likes of Contreras had problems with. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) One positive is the bullpen has been great the last 2 nights, even with tonight's loss. A real RF probably catches that triple. Just another reason as to why Ross Gload should be replaced as the 25th man by a REAL outfielder.

Official Soxtalk 2006 World Cup Thread
Australia vs. Italy tonight. Harry Kewell's a major injury doubt, with his groin strain which he's had since the FA Cup final. If he can play, I think we can cause an upset. Italy haven't been impressive in this tournament to date, especially against your mob.

Official 2006 NBA Draft Thread
I couldn't see Aldridge falling all the way down to #8. Atlanta should grab him at 5, even if they have an agreement with Williams. But this draft is going to be real interesting to watch just because there could be so many trades in the top 10.

QUOTE(Credepopsup @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Makarov is a quality prospect - #19 overall at the Red Line report. He's a very "un-Tallon like" pick, but a very good one. He's a classic "boom or bust", but you can't ignore the huge upside this kid has. Trading up for Lagerstrom was a good move, as was taking Juutilainen in the 6th. Both captained their countries in the u-18 world championships, and can certainly play the game. They represent good value at where they were picked (particularly Juutilainen - an absolute steal, imho). Shutron and Palmer should also have been long gone, before the spot where they were taken. This was potentially a very good draft for the Hawks. That's really good to hear on Makarov. All I could really find on him from TSN yesterday was that he was the 20th ranked European Skater, and that he had a falling out with the Russian Coach or something. Lagerstrom got called the sleeper pick of the draft somewhere IIRC. Apparently, he didn't have that good of a season this year, but he was ranked as a possible 1st rounder last year. People on HockeysFuture were saying that were REALLY suprised Juutilainen lasted until the 6th. He was the 3rd ranked Finnish Skater on there.

But Texas think they'll trade him;

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Should we warn him about the girls spitting. Oh well I will. The smog and pollution is so bad that people just spit to clear their mouths. You will see some young girl in a miniskirt, walking down the street, then she will hock up a loogy and spit it on the ground. I also saw some disturbing things with people allowing some toddlers just to crap on the street, but maybe that was just isolated. The food, was interesting to say the least. :headshake I forwarded myself a care package with 24 pack of Coke, and a s***load of snicker bars because I heard bad things. I put it in with the switches we had sent over. If it wasnt for those snickers, I would of eaten nothing. I had an old guy spit on the window in a crowded bus, just because he had no other place to spit to. And then another time, a 5 year old kid just threw up his lunch (some sort of chicken dish) in the aisle on another bus, and the family just got off the bus. Unlike you like Chinese Food, you would seriously struggle to stay healthy over there.

The Hawks may be interested in Pronger; Maybe if you offered a deal with Aucoin and some prospects, Edmonton would be interested in that.

QUOTE(Ndgt10 @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 12:52 PM) This is how the Indians played in the 2nd half of the season last year. We all see how good of a team they are. Great logic there, especially when the Indians are a completely different team personnel wise this season.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) I'm happy, it means the wild card will likely come from the AL Central, no more Yankees and Red Sox. That alone makes me very happy too.

The Hawks traded into the 3rd round and picked Swedish center Tony Lagerstrom. Also Craig Anderson has been traded to Florida for a 2008 6th rounder, and according to Comcast Barnaby has been bought out.

QUOTE(T R U @ Jun 25, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) Yeah good luck with that one.. What is it looking like for us to get Rudy DBAHO?.. Prolly not as good if Houston is tryin to move up I'm worried Charlotte is going to nab Rudy at #3. Hoping they go with Morrison, but it's 50-50 at this point. I'd offer Dooling and a 2nd rounder, to move up to #5 or #6 to nab Rudy. Apparently Atlanta has an agreement to take Shelden Williams, so the T-Wolves could be our team to trade with, and they'll need a PG since Marcus Banks is going to the Lakers this off-season.

Apparently Houston want to trade up for the #2 or #4 pick now. They're going to offer Howard or Swift to do so, and try to get Brandon Roy or Tyrus Thomas.

Just hold your tongue, Saint Gerrard will rally his troops and we will be victorious! I have an endless list of bad things to say about Steven Gerrard after what he did to my team in the FA Cup thank-you very much.

1-0 victory
Clutch Hitting and good pitching has always been the formula for success for us over the past season and a half in these type of games. Reyes deserved much better though. But then again, Freddy went through the same sort of thing in Minny last season. Karma is a wonderful thing.

QUOTE(zygoat @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 04:20 PM) personally i would take jose vallentine over anyone, he would hit .200 and would field like my 7 year old sister, but damn those walk off's were fun Valentin's actually doing a pretty good job for the Mets as their 2nd baseman right now. Doubt he can keep his BA up where it is now for the rest of the season though. But the Pornstache lives on.
