If he can throw strikes, and not walk guys, he'll be a nice addition to the pen. But control has always been the issue for him.

Tigers @ White Sox, Game Thread
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) I don't know why I'm going to argue this, because everything you're going to say is "it's a no-win situation because we'll complain either way," but here I go. Cora sent two of the slowest guys on the team in situations where they would be gunned out. These were ridiculously obvious choices. I could understand if it's someone with speed, or if our guys weren't so f***ing far away from the plate. Those were terrible decisions and they were waving wallyesque. How do you know Crede would have been thrown out last night? Gomez ain't exactly an all - star out in LF, and doesn't have the greatest defense and arm out there by all reports. Cora likes to be aggressive because it puts pressure on the fielder to make the play. If Crede is held at third, and doesn't score, it's still a 3-3 game, and we could have very well lost last night. You take the good with the bad, but in no way is Joey Cora as bad as Wally was.

Tigers @ White Sox, Game Thread
Joey Cora's always been aggressive and that's never going to change. That's how Ozzie likes to manage. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't. If Cora doesn't send the runner last night, and we don't end up scoring, people here are going to be second guessing him for that. It's practically a no win situation.

If KW trades Lumsden, would you be pissed?
Lumsden's the 1 SP prospect I DON'T want to trade. Get rid of Liotta, Broadway or Haegar first. Lumsden's got the best stuff out of all of our prospects probably.

AL Central LONG Run
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) When it comes to the long long run I'd go with the Tigers simply because of that pitching staff. That's a s*** load of fire power between a few guys and they throw it so damn easily it's scary. Also, they have proven that they have absolutley not problem with spending some money (I-Rod, Maggs, Rogers) so they could look to add a few pieces through free agency as well as keeping their good young players around for as long as possible. Yeah Mike Illitch has shown he wants to bring a winner to Detroit, and he'll keep spending until that happens. The key for them will be for Dombromski to make the right signings at the right times, especially in terms of their offense, and to lock up that young core of theirs. But there's no reason to think, we won't have at least 3 if not 4 teams (if Minny get their act together) that could potentially win 90 games and upwards for the next few seasons at least.

AL Central LONG Run
Long term I think the Tigers may POTENTIALLY have the better pitching of the 2. Verlander, Bonderman, Zumaya and Miller should all be building blocks for that organization. But there's no doubt, Cleveland has the better nucleus with their hitters. But they'll need the likes of Jeremy Sowers to succeed in the majors or they'll need to keep dipping into the FA market for SP's. As for this season, I'd still be 50-50. Johnson and Byrd are weaknesses in that rotation, and no matter how the Tribe hit, they'll need to least pitch better than what they have so far.

Politte replacement?
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) AZ asked about him not long ago and the package they wanted was something like this, Steven Drew + Micah Owings and Miguel Montero which is to step of a price to pay Yikes. Dave Littlefield's gone all Chuck LaMar like.

Oz, best manager in ball, on Maggs
Freddy's had a wonderful thing called run support. Needs to pick it up. ATM, Dye, Konerko, Thome, Iguchi, Crede all could end up on the team. Mark, Jose and Bobby as well. So we could end up with around 8 players possibly, depending on the voting and what Ozzie decides to do. He could even pick guys like A.J and Pods as well.

Politte replacement?
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) I'm going to mention his name just because I have much man love for him, Mike Gonzalez (even though he's a lefty) would be so f***ing great in the Sox' pen right now. He's not leaving Pitt any time soon (free agent after '09) but I can still have my odd fantasies. If you were to offer Pittsburgh a real good young hitter, I could actually see them making a deal, considering the problems they've had scoring runs in the past few seasons. So if you built a package around Josh Fields..........

Official Day 2 Draft Thread
Kapteyn sounds like Flash's kind of pitcher as well, if he does sign with us.

Politte replacement?
QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) I don't know about the possibility of this, but I would absolutley love to see the Sox get J.J. Putz from Seattle. High 90s fastball and a nasty breaking ball. Would cost a lot. With Guardado not going to be back, Putz is currently Seattle's closer, and has done nothing so far to suggest he won't be in that role for the years ahead. Would probably be more likely to get a Mateo, a guy who's pitching more in middle relief right now. But Putz would be a great guy to have in our pen, no doubt.

Official Day 2 Draft Thread
QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) Interesting draft today. The first two picks are +value/-signability guys. Last year Danks was the first round of day 2, same deal. Which is I think the way you should go early on day 2. Hopefully we go a bit better at signing these guys, although Danks was always going to go to college.

Politte replacement?
QUOTE(CWSOX45 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) What about Ray King or Jose Mesa from Colorado? King is from Chicago, I'm not sure about their contract situations though.. I don't think you can trust Mesa in late game situations. The Rockies will hold onto King so long as they're in the race.

Jermaine Dye
Would you offer Joe Crede and prospects for Miggy, if a deal could get done there?

6/7 Games
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) Brooks has really disappointed me this year. I still believe he's gonna be a good one, but he's got to get his head out of his ass... sort of speak... Yeah it hasn't been a good start for him at all. Hopefully he can carry on some momentum from today's outing.

Politte replacement?
Besides the other names that have been mentioned thus far; Mike Stanton (Washington) - Lefty. 3.58 ERA last season, 3.96 ERA this season. Joe Borowski (Florida) - Won't be popular on here I'd say, but he does have late inning experience. Julio Mateo (Seattle) - The Mariners would be my first stop if you're looking for relief help. Guardado, and Mateo could probably be had. They've also got George Sherill who's having a real good year.

6/7 Games
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:07 PM) it seems Whisler has finally figured things out in High A.... I hope he gets promoted in the near future. Isnt the organization really high on him for some reaosn. Well he was a pretty high draft pick, and IIRC he's got 4 fairly good pitches. Until now, he just had trouble putting it all together. I'd say Lucas Harrell would be ahead of him at this stage for a promotion though.

Jeff Nelson = Done
Well so much for the thinking that Nelson was going to majorly help our pen about a month back when we had the likes of Logan up here. Montero's outing tonight gave me a little bit of hope. He'll need to cut down on the extra base hits and HR's, but at least the guy throws strikes. Gotta feel for Nelson though.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 05:04 AM) Haha. So I was watching MTV, and this guy I had a Spanish class with freshman year was definitely on that Parental Date Show. Extremely random. Date my Mom? I saw an epsiode or 2 of that when I was at Utah. It looked like one of the guys would rather "get it on" with the parent and not the daughter.

AAP: Aaron Cunningham
The K/BB ratio is still a little worrying, but he could probably handle high A ball now IMHO. He'll end up there by the end of the season I'd say though.

Crede
QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Please explain why I'm an idiot and if you believe Crede is good at making that type of play. How many times over the past few seasons have you seen Joe Crede make good defensive plays at 3B, compared to a lot of other third baseman?
