QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) This is the kind of win that can breathe life back into a team. I hope it does exactly that And these games show why you should never give up on this team, no matter what situation they're in. We won a lot of these type of games last season. Props to B-Mac on his outing. Hopefully this is the start of something for him.
-
This is his chance to be a fixture in our lineup right here. He may play again tomorrow, and if he hits well again, the calls are going to start coming in for him to start over Uribe more often. Needs to make sure he doesn't give up any errors with his defense though.
-
Gathright hit as bad as BA is in the majors and he's much worse defensively. Freel would be an interesting option, but the Reds want pitching. Soriano can't play CF. Ryan Church is your man, with Corey Hart and Chris Denforia not far behind.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) Jim Callis of BA says the White Sox are looking at Pedro Beato, the RHP the NY Mets failed to sign as a draft and follow. He's a 6'5 RHP from Xaverian High School in Queens. Drafted in the 17th round last year. This was from Ask BA about 2 weeks ago; Looks like a possible 1st round option for us, if he does indeed fall to us. Nice find Jim. This is what Jim Callis is thinking we're gonna do anyway; Perez has a mid 90's fastball. He went #53 in the minorleagueball mock draft and Sickels thinks he'll move quickly thru the system. Tillman is 6'7 and 185 pounds. High School Pitcher who projects well. Right now it doesn't look like Tillman or Beato will fall to us. I'd imagine the Sox might snap either up if they do fall to us.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) Now this is a deal if you started with Jon Garland and included guys like Broadway and Lumsen, then you might have their interest. With new competition in Washington, and an ever increasing bad mood among the season ticket holders, Baltimore needs guys who can win today, and at least with guys like Garland and Uribe the O's get some much needed pitching and another SS, plus they can fill in their farm system. Back when the Tejada rumors were flying with us in the off-season, a lot of people were throwing up the suggestion of Garland + Uribe + a prospect for Miggy. The problem is now, for the moment, Garland has a no trade clause, and he'd have to waive it to go to Baltimore. That's why it'd be more likely if it was anyone, it'd probably be Garcia on the way out, since the other 3 SP's in our rotation would be very unlikely to be moved, and no way do I want to lose B-Mac. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:44 PM) One question I will ask, when is it going to reach that the cupboard's bare, for trading for people to win now? You have to have young talent fill the gaps... unless you're the Yankmees. Yeah this is going to be an extremely important issue in the years ahead, considering the aggressiveness of our General Manager. But I think the Sox in the last 2 or 3 years have done an excellent job at least at drafting pitchers, and turning them into pretty good prospects. Guys like Gio Gonzalez and Dan Haigwood come to mind. So in no way do I want to become like the Yanks because I think it's crucial to have good young players contributing for you at the major league level because they offer you a lot of payroll flexibility, but since we've got still a fairly good farm system, it probably wouldn't kill us if KW decided to make some more trades.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 10:43 PM) Am I the only one who think Zambrano would be something like the second best pitcher in our rotation, and would love to have him here, well except for the fact we would have to rape and pillage our team to get him, but if money were no object, I'd love him. Oh yeah I've got no doubt, he'd be right up there in terms of our SP's. But like you said in terms of what it would cost to get him, and the general headache's you'd have from him just being around, it's not worth it.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Grant Hill's huge salary will be coming off the books after next year, so he will be a very valuable trading asset. That trade seems to be fair on both sides, as long as Grant can give the Suns around 20-30 games next season, and Arroyo would be a solid back-up for those rare minutes that Nash is out. With Brian Grant's contract coming off the books this year, the Suns could still add another part to the team, possibly another big man. Exactly, especially when you consider next off-season there is going to be a MONSTER FA class available. And I'd be willing to be give up that cap space for Marion, because you never know if you're going to end up with someone as good as him in Free Agency. But I've heard the Suns are going to be all over Guilermo Diaz at #21 if he's available to them, so they probably wouldn't have a huge need for Arroyo.
-
Once again we're coming close to the silly season; And this idea actually has merit. I'd rather upgrade at SS over CF, because at least you know over the next few years Anderson will improve. You never know with Uribe with that swing of his. Currently the O's are 27-31. About 8 games back of a wild card spot. They're not out of it, but by the end of July they very well could be. What could we offer them for Miggy. Well you'd have to give up Uribe obviously. They need starting pitching in the worst way possible. We're most likely not going to trade one of our starters until the off-season, but if it was anyone, it would have to be Freddy Garcia. Otherwise you'd be looking at prospects like Tyler Lumsden and Lance Broadway to try and complete a deal there. But it's definitely intriguing.
-
Considering the current state of our rotation in terms of guys we've got in there, and our SP depth in the minors, and what it would cost for you to get Zambrano, there's pretty much no chance of this happening. A team like Arizona or Philly would be most likely to get him if he was made available though.
-
And also Crede was in what his 3rd season in the majors, while this is Anderson's 1st, so you would hav expected Crede to have to started hitting a bit better tha he did. But luckily things worked out well on that regard.
-
The last few games have just showed the need for only bullpen help, but also the increased need for a better defensive CF than Machowiak that can rotate with BA as well. In terms of bullpen help, unless KW decides to make an early move like 04 again, all of the options are going to be in house.

Rumor heard during Phillies-Dodgers game...

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) It would seem a pipedream to send Garland away, and free up tons of money. I do think people should keep in mind Garland may very well be receptive to a trade to a team that is good. It won't be long before the Sox will be able to trade him anywhere, and he might chose a trade to a good team rather than refuse and risk going to an even less desirable place for him in the future. Right now if I was going to bank on a potential destination for Garland, I'd say the Padres. Chan Ho Park's $15M per season contract finishes up at the end of the season, and they don't have much in terms of starting pitching depth at all. And they fit into JG's So-Cal's roots as well. You could offer JG and maybe Fields for a mega package built around Khalil Greene (although he ain't hitting too well this season) and Scott Linebrink possibly. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) Honestly, in my perfect world, Garcia AND Garland would be gone after this season. First order of business would be to trade Garica to a National League ballclub and rape their minor league system. From the ashes arises our Liriano, who emerges to replace Garcia. The baseballs received for Garland would be enough, since we would no longer have to put up with his maddening inconsistency. Personally, I would haven't to hear people tell me how well he pitched, and how the boxscore didn't tell the whole story after giving up 5ER. If Garcia keeps his ERA in the high 4's for the rest of the season, are we really going to be able to trade him and "rape" another team's farm system? That other team could just dip into the FA market. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 02:31 AM) Can you really give one legitimate reason why he'd want to go to Philly? I can't think of one. And the problem with your logic here is Garland is not pitching like he did in '05 and he never had before '05. If he was pitching the way he did last year for most of his career he'd be making even more money and would be far too valuable to the Sox. But hey, the guy who took over Garland's body last year is not the same guy we had for 5 years previous and this year. He's a 100ERA+ pitcher not a 127. Of course Garland wouldn't want to go to Philly. Don't know if you caught me being sarcastic in my previous post. As far your thoughts on Garland well I know there's 2 types of people here on Soxtalk who either like him and think he'll rebound, and those who don't like him and don't think he will. I was encouraged by his last start. Yeah he's making some errors still hanging that change, but only conceeding 2 runs against a very good hitting Texas lineup is a step in the right direction. Hopefully that can continue. His ERA was 5.40 in May and currently it's 4.05 this month after 1 month. -
More buzz;
-
Soxtalk's Bulls fans will be happy with this news; What teams want for their picks; Grant Hill and Arroyo for Marion perhaps? And the top 3 at each position for the draft;

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) Hell, does Broadway even hit above 86 mph? C'mon Flash, I expect better from you than that.
-
Excellent start for Adam again last night; 7.1IP, 1ER, 0BB's, 6K's.
-
Not the type of start you'd expect from Lance at all; 4.2IP, 6R, 3ER, 7BB's, 0K's.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) Man, I love the respect they give Rowand in Phili. Oh yeah, a no-trade clause can be waived, I believe, if the players wants it to be. Prolly been said earlier in the thread, but I only read page one and then posted this comment. And I'm sure Jon Garland would want to waive that no trade clause to go to Philly. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) .905 OPS >>>>> 18 game winner especially when you consider Rowand's spectacular defense. A .905 OPS would put him in the top 5 in all CF in every year since 2000 (didn't look at the years before that, not really worth it), and when you throw in the defense, it puts him as a top 5 CF all around. I still think a lot of teams would rather take the SP though, if Garland was performing at his 2005 level. Not that I'm saying Rowand isn't valuable at all, but getting a good SP who's signed for 3 years would be extremely valuable for a lot of teams. I'm sure if you looked at say the Yankees, if Garland was performing like he did last season, he could actually be their #1 starter right now. -
Good job by the offense tonight. We needed their output big time.
-
It wasn't pretty, but a win's a win, and boy we needed it.
-
C'mon 1 more Bobby.

Big moment in Cliff Politte's White Sox career right here.

Alright, looks like I joined at a good time here. Let's chase Padilla out of this ballgame right NOW.
