  1. QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 28, 2006 -> 03:41 PM) Gang, I said it in the game thread (which was split into the CF thread), and I'll say it here. Kenny Williams is going to be looking at other solutions in centerfield, and some of them will be lower cost, like . . . ahem . . . Erstad, Pierre and Finley. They're "middle" solutions -- in a walk year, don't cost a ton, can hit enough to justify hitting 8th or 9th, and will catch the ball (even if, as in the case of Pierre, they can't throw the damn thing) until the 7th inning. And that's when Brian Anderson will be in the game. And, by the way, for those who doubt that Erstad possibility, remember two things: Gload's on this roster because he can play first base. So can Erstad. In that scenario, Anderson stays here and can play any outfield position as a back-up. And second, Ken Williams loves the guy (Erstad). Always has. And when Kenny loves you -- when he thinks you're a grinder -- Kenny loves you forever. And he'll do what he can to make you a member of the Chicago White Sox. Do you really want a guy who makes $8,750,000 and only has a .629 OPS on this team? Erstad's OPS is .279 and he's hitting .238. Anderson's OBP is .270 and he's only hitting .163. Which shows that if Anderson could actually hit, that OBP would get above .300 and would be better than Darin Erstad's. Erstad's a huge injury risk, and you wouldn't be guaranteed of him suting up every game for you. He's only had 1 season in the last 5 with an OPS above .703. There are better options than Erstad out there. If you need a 1st baseman while Gload's not on the roster, you've got Mack or even someone like Dye or Cintron could probably handle the situation. I would rather trade Ross Gload for a Corey Hart or Chris Denoforia (.955 OPS in AA 2005, and .896 OPS in AAA 2005) type of player, who is much cheaper, and gives you another option in the OF, and could probably produce adequately enough if given the chance at the major league level.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 28, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Why is Ross Gload currently on this team? Instead of sending down a valuable player in order to add to the pen, why not let go of the never used Ross Gload. Thank You. Should have been done at the beginning of the season.
  3. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 28, 2006 -> 01:20 PM) I wanna see BA show us something, anything, at the plate. Is that a huge issue though, if you'd have Machowiak costing you games defensively in the long run?
  4. If the O's are going to trade an OF, it'll be Luis Matos not Corey Patterson.
  5. QUOTE(T R U @ May 28, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Oh god we better not take Redick I'd actually like Patrick O' Bryant, he could really be something 3 years down the track. But it's prob either gonna come down to either Redick or Brewer, especially if Stevenson leaves.
  6. I don't agree with it at all, just because what it will mean for our team defensively. I mean Brian's actually struck out 10 less times this month, and he's actually got a .822 OPS at home.
  7. And yet Juan's actually 2 for 5 today, which is pretty good for him.
  8. Don't mess with the cosmic powers of Brian Anderson now. You'll ruin his mojo.
  9. Kannapolis Intimidators Pos: SP DoB: 09/12/85 Ht: 6'4" Wt: 225 Bats: L Throws: L Clayton was drafted in the 8th round of the 2005 draft by the Sox. He had 9 starts for Great Falls last season and went 2-1 with a 3.89 ERA, 39 K's and 12 BB's. Clayton started off this season in low A ball for Kanny. In 3 games started for Kanny, he has a 1-1 record with a 3.06 ERA, 7K's and 6BB's in 17.2IP. He won his 1st game of the season last night, going 5.1IP with 0ER, 2BB's and 2K's. He has a low 90's fastball in his repertoire, and a curveball.
  10. Speaking of which, here's a recent story of survival;
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 26, 2006 -> 06:13 AM) I could deal with that from her. If thats her fault, i could handle that. You and me both.
  12. I'll hav a Shrimp on the Barby in your honor mate! Have a good one!!!!
  13. QUOTE(DePloderer @ May 27, 2006 -> 07:19 AM) You guys should try coaching a group of 14 to 16 year old hormonal female endurance athletes. Frustrating and fantastic in equal measures. Why is it that no matter what time of the year it always rains when were out running? Do you motivate them by putting up pics of David Beckham around their training areas?
  14. QUOTE(Drew @ May 27, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) Neither here nor there, but the big buzz this afternoon on ESPN Radio here was that Stoneman vetoed an off-season trade for Manny Ramirez that would have sent Scot Shields and Chone Figgins to Boston with two prospects. I don't know if I would have done it then, but I'd probably do it now if I were GM. No Stoneman made the right move there as far as I'm concerned. Figgins and Shields for the money they make, are more valuable than Manny IMHO, even though he's putting up good numbers again for the Red Sox.

    QUOTE(beck72 @ May 27, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) I doubt Fields would play the kind of defense the sox need and want in the OF. The sox don't want to sacrifice defense for offense again. Right now, Fields has the most value of any Sox prospect. He's most likely to be dealt for pitching help at the deadline. I don't see Fields defense in the OF as a "huge" issue. He's got a pretty good arm, and he should be able to learn the position ok. If he's going to make it for us, it's going to be for his offensive output. I don't think you can trade a guy who's doing what he's doing offensively in his 1st season of AAA, just for bullpen help.
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) Angels Pen: Shields - .99 ERA K-Rod - 3.98 Carrasco - 4.00 Gregg - 4.30 Donnelly - 4.35 Yan - 6.85 Romero - 8.31 Bulger - 16.20 And people here call our bullpen bad. Can you imagine the Halos pen with Shields?
  17. The Angels have Jered Weaver and Joe Saunders in AAA (in fact they just called up Weaver today). Shields is hugely important for them. Can't see a deal here.
  18. Good get for the Royals if its true;
  19. Just shows the value of Mr. Don Cooper. How many other organisations would seriously love to have Coop as their pitching coach right now?
  20. A.J's gotta keep this inning going here. We HAVE to get to the Jays pen before they turn it over to B.J EDIT: Stupid gameday is slow, so forgive me for being behind everyone

    QUOTE(fathom @ May 27, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) Personally, I'm going to be pissed off if we trade Fields for a reliever. The only exceptions would be if it's a top-notch reliever, but that type of pitcher likely won't be available. Or if we can say trade Josh Fields for a Jonathan Broxton, but that would probably be unlikely. I'd prefer to keep both, and have Fields in LF. Then all you'd have to worry about is who would be your next leadoff hitter.
  22. Damn I see Freddy's already given up 11 hits after 5 innings. Not a good start at all, and it could be a lot worse than only 5 runs given up. We've still got a chance in this. Got to get onto Lilly though.
  23. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 26, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Why was LeCroy even catching? Because Jim Bowden's an idiot. He sent down Wiki Gonzalez a while back AGAINST Frank Robinson's wishes, because of the terrible offense Washington had at the time. But now they're both on the 25 man roster, and LeCroy was only in because Gonzalez was injured and I assume it was an off day for Schneider.
