Report: Dolan to buy out Larry Browns contract
DBAHO replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Wow, I'm shocked, I really am. When you look at the word incompetence in the dictionary, you should see a picture of Thomas next to it. Guess this means we'll be seeing Starbury and Francis at the #1 and the #2, because that was Isiah's idea, Eddy Curry to get a free run to do what he wants, and for Jerome James to get back into the starting lineup. Before you know it, we'll be seeing Darius Miles and Zach Randolph suit up for the Knicks soon, probably for Channing Frye and a cap filler. -
So a 2 hour connection at LAX on a Saturday Night for an International Flight, uhhhh not a good idea. And oh yeah, it's even better, when your bag doesn't show up in your final destination either. "Don't worry about re-checking your bag at LAX sir".

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 14, 2006 -> 06:16 AM) That comparison doesn't make sense to me. Unlike Garland, Buehrle has had only one "mediocre" season as a full-time starter. Buehrle has been one of the better pitchers in the league for several seasons. On the other hand, Garland has yet to show that last year wasn't a fluke. He still has a lot to prove. I'm confident that Jon can snap out of this and pitch more like the guy that we saw last year. But, as Milkman pointed out earlier, 2005 may have been more of a "career year" than a "breakout year" for Garland. The jury's still out on that one. And while fans may have been more forgiving back in 2003 when Jon was stuck at the back of the rotation and being paid signficantly less, his $29 million contract has raised expectations substantially. My point was on the Buerhle thing was that we've seen Mark go through stages before where he has struggled and given up a lot of hits, and that's what's happening to JG now. It's a welcome reality check for him hopefully, and I still think he'll turn it around. He wasn't exactly in a contract year last season, since the Sox still held his rights for another 2 seasons, IIRC, so it's not really like another Adrian Beltre type of situation. Pitchers can fluctuate from year to year, I understand that. But I find it hard to believe that JG is suddenly a mediocre starter again, considering his age, his arm and no health issues, and he's still throwing the same type of stuff. I think he'll turn it around still, but we're lucky we've got a good insurance plan in B-Mac just in case.

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:54 AM) What are you talking about? Garland's been a full-time starter for us for the past four years. He was inconsistent and mediocre overall for the first three of those seasons and, of course, stepped it up last year. We already know what he can do. Jon was a very consistent pitcher for us last season, his "breakout" year if you will. He's going to have times in his career where he'll be inconsistent, I think we all know that. His main problem is that he's not throwing enough first pitch strikes, and is falling behind in the count. If Coop can get him on workin on fixing that, I think he can get back to some sort of resemblence to the form he put up last season. I wouldn't call giving up 10ER in 4 starts being consistent, that's a nice little stretch there for Jon. If we're complaining about pitchers, what about Mark Buehrle who's given up 27 hits in his last 3 starts?

QUOTE(WCSox @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:39 AM) Nice to see Jon pitch like crap after signing a $29 million contract. ^^^ I prefer to give players more than a month and a half to show what they can do. Like I said in another thread, before last night, Jon only gave up 10ER in his last 4 starts, after his bad 1st 2 outings. Garland may or may not, do as good as he did last season for the rest of the way. But he's not as bad as what he put up last night.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:35 AM) Javier Lopez continues to dominate. I hope we send Logan down soon and call this guy up. Makes some sense don't it. But until Boone actually "costs" us a game, I think he'll be staying up with the big club for the foreseeable future.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ May 14, 2006 -> 05:24 AM) It's Soxtalk. What do you expect? To hear next that Juan Uribe is the suckiest hitter on this planet from someone.

And oh yes, after today I really do hate Steven Gerrard. -
And I have to fly out tonight. No fair.

Nice to see our own fans turn on our players so quickly, especially after what Jon did last season.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 14, 2006 -> 04:28 AM) When was the last time Kenny Williams traded for -- or even signed -- a big name free agent reliever? Look at the dominant relief pitchers that have carried the White Sox bullpen over the past five years. Bobby Jenks, Neal Cotts, Cliff Politte, Damaso Marte, Shingo Takatsu (verson '04), Flash Gordon, Kelly Wunsch, Keith Foulke -- not ONE in the bunch was a big name free agent signing. Guys like Politte, Hermanson, and Gordon were castoffs who other teams thought were done. I just think that you guys hoping for a trade to save the bullpen are going to be letdown. First off, trading for relievers is a really stupid idea, considering how volatile these guys are (except for the very best -- those, BTW, cost an arm and two legs). Kenny Williams will continue scanning the waiver wire, hoping someone slips, and, if possible, pick up a Matt Thorton type -- a guy who he believes that given the proper coaching, Cooper and co. can fix. I highly doubt, however, that you'll see KW trade Lance Broadway for a 'quick fix'. I'm actually a little surprised that we didn't see KW go after one of the Japanese bullpen arms that came over this year. It seems that they tend to have a one year grace period, like that Takashi Saito for the Dodgers, who's been pretty good for LA thus far. I look in terms of what Larry Beinfest had to give up for 2 months of Ron Villione, and how much that decision paid off for the M's. If the market's going to be the same this season in terms of lower teams not wanting to give up their talent, it's going to be very hard for KW to trade for a reliever, like you said. No way, do I want to overpay for one.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ May 13, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) This Hamels rook from Philly is looking REALLY sharp in his first ML start, outside of some walks. Had a no-no going through 4 2/3. 7Ks, 5BBs, 1H, 0R through 5. This kid dominated in the minors...just a lil heads up to you fantasy players. When those Abreu for JC rumors were occuring a few months ago, the prospects I wanted from Philly wasn't Floyd, it was Cole Hamels. This guy's gonna be a flat out stud if he can stay healthy.
-
Eddie Guardado could actually be an option, depending on what happens with Seattle in terms of Putz doing good as the closer, Hargrove or Bill Bavasi getting fired, and the M's rebuilding. We would still have to give up something fairly good in terms of prospects though.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 14, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) I read a few days ago that Herm Schneider is planning on putting him on a core muscles strength program soon to strenghten his back so this wont happen again. That sounds like a good idea and hopefully it works out. We need JC back as soon as possible.

QUOTE(beautox @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:59 AM) i think brian put some quality ABs togeather, he got the only walk from Johan, and then his next time faceing him, he battled in a 3-2count for a bit and lost, personally im pretty happy with how hes going about his ABs. In the past 5 games Anderson is 7 for 16 with 2 HR's and only 3K's. He's coming around.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 14, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) That has gotten trickier and trickier every year. Everyone thought they were in contention last year, and no one wanted to budge. Especially when a lot of other teams want bullpen help as well, and are in worse situations than us personnel wise.

Who is your Biggest fear to play in your division?

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 13, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Radke and Silva have to figure out how to have hitters hit the ball at players instead of in open spaces. Combined, 124 hits in 81 innings between the two of them. What's more fun is that they've only allowed 11 walks. I don't think those two know what the hell a waste pitch is. I don't find striking guys to be the utmost important in baseball(I find GO/AO being a better indicator, depending upon what division you play in), but a 4.93 K/9 for Radke? A 2.53 K/9(!!!) for Silva? You have to strike more guys out than that. As of right now, the Tigers are my biggest fear in the division...that rotation looks pretty solid, and that offense is for real. They are a team with a chip on their shoulder and a good old-school manager...watch the f*** out for them. And of course watch out for Cleveland come the second half. Yeah Radke and Silva have to get it together. Silva's knee is still bothering him from what I've read. They should put him on the DL and let Liriano start. Radke I think will get it back together eventually, he's been a good pitcher the last few seasons (even though this may be his last). If all things goes well with that rotation, they're still a very dangerous team. -
Garland was fairly good in his previous 4 starts before last night's game. Hopefully it's just an aberration, the Twins have actually been swinging a pretty good bat lately. Montero was brought up to pitch in games that don't really matter much e.g last night's game. He'll be back down soon enough. Nelson's only pitched 2IP for Charlotte so far. It'll still be a while at least before we see him I'd say.

QUOTE(Credepopsup @ May 13, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) I used to live just down the street from her, and I can tell you that the pictures of her don't do her justice. She's even nicer "close up". I do find it a bit disappointing that she seems to be on a crusade, to let a footballer from every club in the Premiership, bone her - 3 down, 17 to go (that we know of..). EDIT's - Spelling I hate you, I really do. You lucky bastard. -
All the best for your Mom Rowand. Thoughts and Prayers with ya dude.
-
From Ken Rosenthal's piece tonight; My money's still definitely on him going to the Yanks. They've got a 17 year old OF who's dominating in A ball, and Phillip Hughes as potential trading chips.
-
Just a question here. Before this season, and be honest here, who thought Rowand was going to get back to his 2004 hitting and not what he did last season?

If Minny comes to their senses, promote Bartlett from AAA, let Liriano start, and Mike Cuddyer can continue to hit the way he has lately, I'm actually going to say the Twins. Cleveland's offense is great don't get me wrong. But I'm more worried about a team who has better pitching than a better offense. -
Oh goody, we're up against Flash's favorite starter tonight.
