  1. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) s*** I didnt realize how many walks we have drawn already too. We are second in the Beane count. Nice page dude. Which is a HUGE reason why we're successful offensively right now. Hopefully they keep that up.

    Southsider 40K

    How long until we see another 40K thread I wonder? Congrats Mike!
  3. Damn that was a great f***in game to watch. And for a few days, TIM THOMAS IS GOD!!!!!
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2006 -> 11:30 AM) If Houston gets back Clemens, they go right back to being a top team, very close to us. Yeah with the way they have hit so far, they'll get Backe get as well, and if they can get Clemens, they could shop a SP for a big upgrade somewhere in their lineup like at SS (I still wouldn't rule out Miggy Tejada here). The Stros do worry me probably the most of the NL teams just because of their SP.
  5. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 5, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) Another Sox win Yep we've hit 20 wins, a fantastic effort.
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2006 -> 09:10 AM) I am guessing the guy has a standard escape clause that said if Chicago hasn't called him up by X, that he can request a release. Yeah probably like the contracts Carlos Pena and Willie Harris got I imagine.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 3, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) Hey, I call it like it is. Our farm system and development recently deserves criticism. The argument can easily be made with how many of our top prospects have become busts. Its frustrating that all of these can't miss guys usually end up giving us relatively nothing. The Sox system would have been top 10 if we had not of traded Gio Gonzalez (dominating in AA for Philly), Dan Haigwood and Chris Young. I think the argument that our 1st round picks haven't done squat is a little harsh. Sure there's been misses like Ring, but I think the Sox's drafting over the past couple of years has improved. Josh Fields has a +.900 OPS down at AAA in his 1st season there, IIRC. Broadway is doing pretty good down at B-Ham. Look at teams like the Yankees. They've been good for a long time in the majors, but their farm system sucks. That's why at the deadline they couldn't trade for anyone good, because they had no quality prospects. Our prospects got us Javier Vazquez and Jim Thome. And sure I would have preferred to keep Young over Anderson. But if KW and the hierachy rate him, then I think he'll turn out to be alright. Remember Joe Crede didn't set the world on fire when he first came up, and look at him now, he's such an important part of this team. You've got to give young players time at the major league level, that's all there is too it.
  8. I may be going skiing on some of Salt Lake's best slopes for the first time ever this weekend so that should be good.
  9. QUOTE(PaHs @ May 3, 2006 -> 05:33 AM) I would absolutely take Pods over Granderson or Freel anyday. Granderson hasn't proven anything, and neither has Freel. Freel's highest SB total in his career is 36. Without Pods, no world series last year, no question. How many times will this guy have to prove people wrong before they believe?? Not to mention he arguably has the biggest hit in Sox history Granderson is also in his 1st major league season, and could hit 20 HR's and steal 20 SB's this season. I'd take him over Pods, because you'd have him under control for 5 to 6 seasons, while Pods is a FA after this one.
  10. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 2, 2006 -> 04:01 AM) Yeah, I mean, you have to move Martinez to 1B asap if you're the Cleveland GM. The guy is an offensive monster, and at the same time, about as big of a defensive liability as you'll find out of the C slot. Ben Broussard is okay, I guess. Not exactly a long term building block. They're doing teams a favor by keeping him at 1B. They've got Michael Aubrey down in AA or AAA who was taken pretty highly in the draft a couple of years back right? I'd imagine they'll still stick with Martinez at C for the future still, and really have him on improving his defense and throwing arm as much as possible. But it's definitely an issue for em.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 3, 2006 -> 05:33 AM) Mark Teixeira , Jim Thome, Carlos Lee. Josh Fields might just be another in a long line of players who have switched form 3B to 1B/LF and have gone on to be very productive players at thier new positions. LF would probably be the best option at this stage, with Pods no certainity to be back next season, and Jerry Owens struggling down at AAA. But Fields has really been a pleasant suprise for me the way he's come into AAA and hit straight off the bat. Too bad Chris Young is also doing the same in AAA Tucson, but that's a whole notha story.
  12. Widger has a bad CERA after 1 month, and as is the Soxtalk way, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!! And this could be Widger's last season with the Sox anyway. We've got Chris Stewart down in the minors, and IIRC the White Sox hierachy do rate him.
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ May 3, 2006 -> 02:14 AM) as is steve phillips How to build a contender, by Steve Phillips. Echo Flash's thoughts on the Indians Slurping, especially about their "All-Star" hitting lineup. Couldn't here enough about them today.
  14. I'd imagine we'd have a terrible BA/RISP stat today. We were lucky to even score that 1 run, thanks to C.C not getting off the mound quick enough. Shows how important Thome is to this lineup though. We still hit but getting 1 run just ain't gettin it done. Hopefully Buerhle gets back on track next start.
  15. If Crede keeps hitting the way he has so far, getting him locked up to a 3 or 4 year deal sounds like a good idea. How's it going to impact Josh Fields though? Fields is raking in AAA, and will probably have to move to 1B or the OF. Maybe he can play CF.
  16. I'd still prefer Gload be replaced with an OF (trade for someone like Corey Hart), and then you could have Thornton go on the DL perhaps when Nelson is ready to contribute. Hopefully Nelson can still get out righties, but he won't be able to pitch for more than an inning.
  17. Also the Ross Gload argument comes back into full swing today, with Thome not playing and Gload not starting. Let's hope Juan doesn't GIDP here.
  18. Hafner has just become a major Sox killer hasn't he. Let's hope we get something going this inning with Dye on.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) No way Walker is worth a #15 pick in the draft, especially coming off a year when he blew out his knee. If Denver pays that they are crazy. True, but I think when healthy Walker is very possibly a top 5 WR in the NFL. Definitely worth the risk for a team like Denver.
  20. I've been listening to a bit of Wolfmother lately. Not a bad band by any stretch of means. Cali got me interested in the Alkaline Trio quite a while back as well, and I've been listening to quite a lot of their stuff as well.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 03:40 AM) Daisuke Matsuzaka? Not exactly a reliever...and may be a Boras guy already.. He'll have the Mariners and Yankees falling all over themselves to sign him. Think of the Jose Contreras situation when he 1st signed for the Yankees a few seasons back. He has pitched a lot of innings at a fairly young age though, so it will be interesting to see if his arm can hold up over the next decade.
  22. And supposedly the word is, if the new ballpark opens in 2010, they could have a payroll upwards of $90M;
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 27, 2006 -> 12:37 PM) It's all about what you get your body trained to do, I guess. Yeah that happened to me earlier in the week when I was up too late watching a soccer game until 3 a.m in the morning, and had to get up at 7 for work that day. Usually I find it's not so bad in the morning, but in the afternoon you're really starting to feel tired.
  24. Shows what a fantastic start Jermaine Dye has had to the season. Man wasn't he a hell of a pickup back in the 04-05 off-season. Especially when the alternatives included the likes of Richard Hidalgo (got released from Baltimore a few weeks ago IIRC).
  25. It's lucky we've got a ready made replacement in Javier Lopez down at Charlotte, in case we need him. But I like what I've seen of Thornton so far. Hopefully we'll see him back in action sooner, rather than later.
