That was a thing of beauty tonight. I love watching the Suns play when they're on fire offensively like that. Boris Diaw is a HELL of a player too.

This Loss is on Ozzie
QUOTE(Beastly @ May 7, 2006 -> 04:23 AM) Of course, he's still reliable, its only 2 BS on the year, right? I think so, which compared where we were last season and 2 seasons ago with Billy Koch and Shingo Takatsu probably seems godly compared to that.

For your amusement...
I wish all the best for Joe. He's not in a good hitting ballpark, but he's getting the chance to play everyday now, and that's what he was after all along. And hopefully he can make the most of it. The Marlins actually don't have that bad of a lineup down there, especially if they decide to hang onto Miggy Cabrera (still like Keith's trade proposal a while back that included players like Sweeney and Broadway though).

This Loss is on Ozzie
QUOTE(fathom @ May 7, 2006 -> 03:25 AM) Good thing I was out last night, as I'm sure I would have been posting a thousand times on this debate. I got to watch the 9th inning last night, and the second I saw Thornton on the mound, I sensed trouble. There's a reason some guys can't pitch the 9th inning. Thornton's control has always been shaky, and you can't afford the leadoff walk. After reading this thread, I agree with jabroni. Stop f***ing around, and let your closer get 3 outs. If they tie the game or go ahead, then you tip your cap. And can we please end the Boone Logan experience. And can we please stop having 3 starters on the bench (even though with Dye out, it's a little different). Thornton's looked fairly good in the 7th and 8th innings of games. Maybe he's just one of those guys like Cliff Politte who has that mentality where you can't pitch well in the 9th inning of ballgames. I think we've got a fairly good bullpen still, but Ozzie needs to use them in the right way, for this to be a sucessful cohesive unit. Logan's not as bad as Kevin Walker was last season, so I think the Sox are going to give him a little more time.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 7, 2006 -> 12:39 AM) I can see about anybody on the roster being traded away except for Granger. He's definitely a part of our future. Yeah I thought so too, but if the Pacers want to make a run at Garnett, they may have to include a player like Danny, although they do have some expiring contracts in Croshere and Bender don't they? I think if the Pacers really want KG, they'll probably get him. And O' Neal would suit the T'Wolves style of needing more of a bruiser down low.

I'm about to go snowboarding in about an hour, and probably skiing tomorrow for the 1st time ever. Looking forward to making an idiot out of myself.

Those who have left us...
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ May 6, 2006 -> 07:36 AM) Joe Borchard went 3-5 for the Marlins last night Now that's quite interesting. Only 1 K in 8 AB's for the Fishies so far. Perfect situation for him out there.

Deng or Gordon + Lottery Pick for Garnett is quite insane. Indiana would probably offer Jermaine O' Neal and a young player like Danny Granger etc. And you'd have a lot of other teams making McHale an offer too.

This Loss is on Ozzie
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 6, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Yes, I do. He'd probably still be better than some of the slackjaws who are currently pitching for us. Oh yes because that bullpen is costing us so much right now in terms of wins and losses. Nelson had a 5.59 ERA post ASB in 2005. To expect him to come straight up now, and perform well, is laughable. Lopez on the other hand has a 0.64 ERA in Charlotte. But let's ignore him for a 39 year old relief pitcher who's probably done.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 6, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Demote Logan and bring up Nelson. We will still have two lefties -- Cotts and Thornton. I don't see what the big deal is. Dude, Nelson hasn't even been pitching that much, and you expect him to come straight up and perform? At least call up someone who has been performing in the minors.

So how's Javier Lopez sounding as the LOOGY right now? If anyone's going to be called up right now, it'd probably be him, not Nelson or Tracey I'd say, considering they'd probably send down Logan.

J.Nelson
We won't be seeing Nelson until June at the earliest IMHO. I think our pen has been made out to be worse than what it has been so far, and over the past few days it's shown signs of settling down. I'm hoping tonight's performance was just an aberration.

Well I missed out on going to that lunch. We had a power failure just when we were driving home, and we've been gettin in from just opening the garage door and not the front door with a key. Bad idea. So we had to wait a hour for the power to come back on.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) AH, I see. Well are you still thinking about trying to move to the states? This could be a good chance to make some connections at least. Then again for me, I don't turn down a free lunch... speaking of which, I have no idea what I want for lunch His son actually works as a scout for the Rams which is pretty cool (although I was told he worked for the D-Backs, so it's a little dissappointing). Considering it's Cinco De Mayo day, I'm thinkin we're probably gettin Mexican of some sort. That would be the best bet for everyone today I would imagine.

Ozzie ball in a a nutshell
Isn't it a good thing that we actually upgraded the bench, so we're using players like Alex Cintron and Rob Mackowiak over Willie Harris and Timo Perez though? At least now, if Ozzie is going to rotate his guys and play the bench a bit which he has always done, those guys aren't a huge liability.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) Absolutely, in bigger social situations it is usually easier to avoid people like that. The thing is, my parents aren't going because they'll be at home still (Dad's been sick FWIW), so it's just be a few of his workpartners and me. But I think I'm prob gonna go anyways, and try to avoid her.

Conundrum; I've been invited to lunch in Salt Lake City today, it's one of my Dad's workpartners 67th birthday. He's probably one of the nicest people I've ever met, but his wife is the biggest b**** that I've ever met. Should I go?

AL Central Central
Until the Twins learn how to develop young hitters at the major league level, they're not got going to get higher than 4th in the division for a while. And really considering where they were a few seasons back, that's quite depressing for a Twinkies fan.

Is D Lee that important
QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ May 5, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) I was at the Game tonight and half of the team looked like they wanted to be somewhere else other half was arguing with Bill Miller on pitches that were strikes. And the Dbacks are playing much better. The D-Backs are a REAL sleeper team right now. They've got a real deep lineup, good infield defense up the middle with Hudson and Counsell, and Webb and their late inning pitching has been good so far. And they've got lots of prospects to trade at the deadline if they wanted to make a run, but I wouldn't do that if I was Josh Byrnes.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo !!
Yep, time to get loaded on the Corona's today.

Do we rely too much on homeruns again
QUOTE(fathom @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:06 AM) I think it's more of desperation of him to try and find his old speed and ability. He's just a step and a half slow now. And he's getting towards that age where it gets harder and harder to keep stealing bases. I don't think he'll be back here next season, but that's JMHO, and you'd have to look at who'd replace him (Owens, Sweeney, FA etc.) and who would leadoff for him so there's a few factors to consider here still.

Contreras named AL Pitcher of the Month
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 6, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) s*** I didnt realize how many walks we have drawn already too. We are second in the Beane count. Nice page dude. Which is a HUGE reason why we're successful offensively right now. Hopefully they keep that up.
