QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:36 PM) Look of course i'd rather have a Carlos Beltran, Andruw Jones, Aaron Rowand, hell even Hunter... But i'm trying to think of someone cheap who has some shot of giving us decent defense and an average over .200 We do. His name is Brian Anderson. You're not going to find many starting CF's who are cheap (and available) in the major leagues in this day and age, and can be productive at the same time. It's the nature of the business.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:30 PM) The difference between him and BMAC is at least BMAC threw a few decent innings before he got in trouble... plus it was always solid offensive teams that did damage to him... like Texas or the Tigers even... Anderson just looks lost... These were B-Mac splits when he was 1st up; May - 2 GS, 6.97 ERA June - 2 GS, 7.36 ERA July - 1 GS, 15.00 ERA I wouldn't call that a few decent innings.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) Ohh and as for the DL you could of said the same thing about Dye 2 years ago... You never know with injuries... The difference is Dye actually put up the numbers last season, and Erstad hasn't for a long, long time.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) The difference is that Brian Anderson is looking totally lost. He's looking Joe Borchard bad... and thats pretty bad... If we could pry away a Darin Erstad then why not try and do it... You don't think B-Mac was too was he was first up here? Remember that start against Detroit where he gave up a few homers (I remember the Game Thread well that day). Anderson's not going to look lost forever.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) Actually I was thinking more along the lines of Darin Erstad... Solid lefty stick... Above average defensive CF... Veteran with World Series experience... and I bet he could be had for a couple of less then top propects... Hell even from in Owens in you want... Erstad's put up a .696 OPS last year, and his splits so far this season are .233/.303/.333. I wouldn't call him much of an upgrade, and I certainly wouldn't give up Jerry Owens for him.

Yep, it's time for me to start hoping we pick up Brandon Roy or Ronnie Brewer in the draft. It will be interesting to see if we get Brewer, who you guys will go for with your 2nd pick, assuming you take Aldridge, because there isn't many good swingmen in this draft, after the top 5 or so.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) You can not give up on young, talented players this quick otherwise you end up regretting it. Anyone else see how important this statement is? Remember last season after Brandon McCarthy was giving up quite a number of homers, quite a few posters felt he was definitely expendable to get a Burnett or Schmidt at the deadline. Instead we've got a young pitcher who's not making much money at all, and is probably our best bullpen pitcher right now.
-
We'll just have to make sure you guys face the Pistons now.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) How do you know? I see your point but I just don't think it's that big of a risk, the guy is just having fun. I'm sure Mark does more dangerous things just about every day. It almost reminds me of when Aaron Rowand busted his shoulder when he was riding dirt bikes during the off-season a few seasons back. You can see why the Sox are maybe a little bit leery after that type of thing happens.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:08 PM) Then we need to trade for a real CF... who's availiable... And what do we give up for a real CF (like Ken Griffey Jr. I assume you're going to suggest)? Forget the fact that we're only 12 games into the season as well.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) It's a giant slip n slide though. For all we know Mark has one at home and does this every day. Well then Mark needs to find something better to do during the day.
-
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Why can't he? He can go play wherever the heck he's told to play... If Soranio can play LF then Cintron can play CF... Then we can send down Anderson for a new backup infielder... That's because Soriano has ACTUALLY played in the outfield before. Cinton hasn't. You stick Cintron in CF, suddenly your OF defense gets a lot worse.
-
I think if anything, if Cintron's going to fight his way into a starting spot here, it would have to be at 2B, if we don't pick up Iguchi's option next season (although I can't see that happening right now).
-
What would happen if MB actually got injured doing a tarp slide though? On the one hand I can see why KW and management would do this, they want to protect their investment etc., but then again it's pretty stupid.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) Ya well Juan's D>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Alex's. And that's why Juan is the starter, full stop. Cintron's a perfect utility guy to have though.
-
Liotta ended up giving up 5ER, not a good outing.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:54 AM) Just one more thing....I think the 2 home run game against Felix raised his expectations with many fans to unreasonable levels. I think that's a pretty fair comment right now.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:53 AM) I think it's fair for me to compare him to Patterson until he starts putting up good numbers. Patterson was solid in the outfield and abysmal at the plate. Anderson strikes out like it's going out of fashion and strands runners like they've got nowhere to go. I do hope he comes around, but until he does... ...K is for Anderson. Patterson also had 4 years to back up that theory. Anderson's had 11 games so far this season. All I'm saying, is that the Brian Anderson you're seeing now, is not the Brian Anderson you're going to see at the end of the season. Give him time.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) He isn't the next Joe Borchard, And this is the key thing here. Anderson's plate discipline needs improvement, yes, but it's not on Joe Borchard's level. Looking at Anderson's minor league stats would tell you that.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) I don't know where you came up with that number, but its far from being true. I get your point though, offenses seem to be more alive this year. Yeah most teams are already averaging over 5 runs a game, about 10 teams 6. And you expect with the colder weather, that the pitching would usually be on top at this time of year.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:43 AM) Personally, I thought he'd be able to come close to matching Rowand's numbers from last year. And I still think he can. But I think it's just unfair that people are already practically giving up on him, and comparing him to Corey Patterson. We've only played in 11 games so far. Rookies are gonna hit bumps in the road, and that's a fact of life. Let's hope Anderson's hitting his major one right now, and that he can get things sorted out, and become the hitter people expect him to.
-
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Rosenhaus and Angelo have had a pretty good working relationship. I am optimistic that something will get done before the draft. I think that briggs is a RFA after this season, so the bears want to work out an extension before they have to start matching offer sheets. At least if he's a RFA, they can place a 1st round tender for him, and get that in compensation if he leaves right? But I can see why they want to get him locked up, especially when you guys still have cap room.
-
I have a question. How many people here (and be truthful here) realistically expected Brian Anderson to come in and produce like Jeff Francouer did when he came up for the Braves last season?
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 12:19 AM) I don't think anyone is denying that, but the same is said for Torii Hunter. Hunter isn't much better on offense, if at all, and thats what is being argued. Torii's at least got the runs on the board though. I'll say this, if Aaron Rowand gets back to where he was in 2004 in the 2nd half offensively, he's better than Torii Hunter. And he should get himself a very nice contract at the end of 2007.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Apr 16, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Rosenhaus is such a slimball more money than Urlacher after 1 Pro Bowl go after 2006 see ya. Yeah I posted that about 2 months ago, that Mr "Next Question" was indeed after that for his client. What's the deal with his contract currently? Does he have 1 more year left on his deal? Looking at the money Peterson got, and Arrington's probably gonna get, you can see why he wants so much I guess.
